Maintenance of the roads and bridges is a major issue for all road administrators around the world, and various initiatives are being implemented in each region for the purpose of controlling the ever increasing road maintenance cost while ensuring the safety of the vehicles driving. Efforts for such initiatives have also been made in Asia and initiatives for managing heavy-weight vehicles have recently gained momentum in Korea and Japan. We have developed a technology for unevenly installing bar-shaped sensors (piezo quartz sensors) to enable dynamic axle load measurement at a highly accurate level, and have estimated our measurement accuracy of axle load/gross weight, etc. on an actual road. The measurement accuracy of the axle load/gross weight varies significantly depending on the number of sensors installed. In our implementation, the target accuracy was set to below ${\pm}5%$ for gross weight measurement so that automatic regulation can be applied. We have achieved our target by installing 8-point measurement system. However, to have this technology widely accepted, it was necessary to reduce the system size so that it can be easily implemented. Therefore, we have estimated the relationship between the measurement accuracy and the system size (number of measurement points), and have come up with the proposal of 3-point measurement as an optimum number of measurement points, and have estimated its performance on an actual road. Additionally, we evaluated the relationship between the measurement accuracy and vehicle velocity.
In this paper, the WSANN(Water Stage Analysis with Neural Network) model was presented so as to predict flood water stage at Jindong which has been the major stream gauging station in Nakdong river basin. The WSANN model used the improved backpropagation training algorithm which was complemented by the momentum method, improvement of initial condition and adaptive-learning rate and the data which were used for this study were classified into training and testing data sets. An empirical equation was derived to determine optimal hidden layer node between the hidden layer node and threshold iteration number. And, the calibration of the WSANN model was performed by the four training data sets. As a result of calibration, the WSANN22 and WSANN32 model were selected for the optimal models which would be used for model verification. The model verification was carried out so as to evaluate model fitness with the two-untrained testing data sets. And, flood water stages were reasonably predicted through the results of statistical analysis. As results of this study, further research activities are needed for the construction of a real-time warning of the impending flood and for the control of flood water stage with neural network method in river basin. basin.

A numerical model was developed to predict the stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge in open channels with nonuniform cross section or compound open-channels. The governing equation is the one-dimensional momentum equation based on assumptions of the steady and uniform flow conditions in the longitudinal direction and the uniform water surface elevation in a cross section. Vegetative drag force term was included in governing equation in order to reflect the effect of floodplain vegetation on the flow characteristics. Finite element method was applied to obtain the numerical solution of the governing equation. Stage-discharge curve and lateral distribution of unit discharge for a given water surface are calculated based on input data, such as the cross sectional geometry, Manning's roughness coefficient, vegetative information and longitudinal slope of channel bed. The developed model was verified by comparing the calculated results with the observed data and the results of Darby and Thorne's(1996) model and the nonlinear k-$\epsilon$ model. The verified model was applied to estimate the upstream boundary conditions in two-dimensional flow model. The numerical results using laterally distributed unit discharge were compared with those obtained using uniformly distributed unit discharge in two-dimensional flow model.
A numerical model of flow velocity in the standing water system is presented. This model(RMA-2), based on the 2-dimensional unsteady momentum and continuity equations, uses finite element techniques to simulate the distribution of velocity over a spatial location of lakes. The present model represents an improvement over existing numerical water quality models in that it can model the unsteady state and can, therefore, cope with time with a spatial location of standing waters such as lakes and large reservoirs. The model thus allows the engineer to do more accurate estimation of water flows and thus water qualities in standing waters where directions and velocities of the flow become more important for the simulation of the water quality than in running waters. Tests for the data collected in the lake "Paldang" indicates that the model works well under limited circumstances. However, to be more accurate estimation of velocity with the present model, accumulation of data for the measurement of velocities and renovation of geometrical conditions of the lake would be needed.
Attempts to increase the utilization of a by-products such as fly ash and blast furnace slag to partially replace the cement in concrete are gathering momentum. But most of by-products is currently dumped in landfills, thus creating a threat to the environment. Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. However, most study deal only with alkali-activated blast furnace slag or fly ash, as for the combined use of the both, little information is reported. In this study, we investigated the influence of mixture ratio of fly ash/slag, type of alkaline activator and curing condition on the workability and compressive strength of mortar in oder to develop cementless alkali-activated concrete. In view of the results, we found out that the mixture ratio of fly ash/slag and the type of alkaline activator always results to be significant factors. But the influence of curing temperature in the strength development of mortar is lower than the contribution due to other factors. At the age of 28days, the mixture 50% fly ash and 50% slag activated with 1:1 the mass ratio of 9M NaOH and sodium silicate, develop compressive strength of about 65 MPa under $20^{\circ}C$ curing.
This study was designed out to develop a home health care service for nurses working in community care services. This study investigates actual conditions at welfare institutions related to health needs the demands of clients, and the state of home health care services we hope that this study will improve upon the current service system. In Korea home health care services are still developing and only new becoming a part of the health care supply system. The data was collected by recording the client home nursing assessments modified to the situation of UTMB home health agency. In this study 107 clients were selected for home care who needed care for physical and mental deficits. The study lasted from March to November of 1995 at one of the welfare service institutions in Chunchon city. The results show that those who most frequently needed care services were over 50 years old with a health deficit of 80.3%, followed by sex as women who needed care at 59.8%. 50.5% of the clients had very little education. 99.1% of the clients live with their family, and a medical diagnostic analysis reveals that 73.9% of the 5 year period of illnesses were the following : 38.8% - muscular -skeleton system disorder, 24.4% - hypertension and stroke, 25.7% sole disease of arthritis. For behavioral conditions 43.3% of the patients were without care services, 56.6% of the patients were taking treatment that 73.5% of those were taking medication. The most main complaint of patients were 22.4% of pain in the extremities, next were 16.8% of a limitation of body activities, 15.0% was lumbo-sacralgia. According to the investigator who was a senior student nurse, the following suggestions were made: 32.7% for curative medical services, 29.9% for physical exercise, 19.6% for emotional support. Consultation nursing services consisted of 67.2% for physical therapy, 11.2% for the maintaining healing, 9.4% for counseling. The patients at home, required assistance most frequently for muscular-skeleton problems under the category of physical systems (33.3%). But, on the other hand, 49.5% of the patients required care givers at home, 28.2% had a knowledge deficit, 21.0% had malnutrition, 18.4% had bad impaired communication. The character of health problems were devided into chronic disease(67.0%), accidents(I3.1%), and general disease(15.9%). 86% of the disabled client had an impairment of the physical system. Eating (86.9%) , Toileting(77.6%), and personal care showed much the same of ADL condition, the level and range of achievement of mobility, the most frequently self performed was 81.3% only in a room size area, and 40.2% were completely dependent when going out. Although there were a large number of home care services in th community at these welfare institutions, many clients needed a variety of curative services. As policy changes have gathered momentum, responsibility for the development of a more suitable program was demanded by the clients from the community.
Studies of atmospheric general circulation in the troposphere and stratosphere are very important to understand the influence of human activities on the global climate and its change. Recently, the existence of an annual cycle in the circulation has been reported by a number of studies. In this study, the residual mean meridional circulation is calculated by the TEM momentum and continuity equations for the period from December 1985 to November 1995 (10 years), and the long-term variations of the circulation and mass fluxes across the 100hPa surface are examined. The multiple regression statistical model is used to obtain quantitatively the long-term variations. This study is focused especially on mean meridional circulation in the troposphere and stratosphere associated with ENSO (El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o-Southern Oscillation) which is known as a cause of the unusual weather, global climate, and its change. The results show that the global scale troposphere-stratosphere mean meridional circulation is intensified during El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o event and QBO (quasi-biennal oscillation) easterly phase and weakened during La Ni${\tilde{n}}$o event and QBO westerly phase. The signal of Mount Pinatubo volcanic eruption in June 1991 is obtained. Due to the volcanic eruption the global scale troposphere-stratosphere mean meridional circulation is abruptly intensified.
With the growth of Web 2.0, lots of services allow yours to post their personal information and useful knowledges on networked information spaces such as blogs and online communities etc. As the services are generalized, recent researches related to social network have gained momentum. However, most social network services do not support machine-processable semantic knowledge, so that the information cannot be shared and reused between different domains. Moreover, as explicit definitions of relationships between individual social entities do not be described, it is difficult to analyze social network for inferring unknown semantic relationships. To overcome these limitations, in this paper, we propose a social network analysis system with personal photographic data up-loaded by virtual community users. By using ontology, an informative connectivity between a face entity extracted from photo data and a person entity which already have social relationships was defined clearly and semantic social links were inferred with domain rules. Then the inferred links were provided to yours as a visualized graph. Based on the graph, more efficient social network analysis was achieved in online community.
A ship operating in rough sea may suffer from an undesirable motion which may severely degrade the performance of equipment onboard and give a person an uncomfortable feeling. Hence, roll stabilization received a considerable attention and various devices including bilge keels, stabilizing fins, gyroscopic, anti-rolling tanks, rudders and flaps have been conceived and utilized for the purpose. The Coanda effect is evident when a jet stream is applied tangential to a curved surface of a hydrofoil since then the jet increases the circulation around the foil and consequently the lift. Model tests and numerical simulation have been conducted to examine the practicality of a fixed type fin stabilizer augmented by the Coanda jet. The results show that the lift coefficient of the modified Coanda fin at the zero angle of attack identically coincides with that of the original fin at ${\alpha}=\26^{\circ}$ when Coanda jet is supplied at the rate of $C_j$ = 0.25. It is also shown that fixed type fin stabilizers for active control of the motions of ships and the other mobile units without rotation can be put to practical use if the Coanda effect is applied.
