The Simultaneous Hydrocracking and Hydrodesulfurization over CoPtMo/LaY Catalyst (CoPtMo/LaY 촉매상에서 동시적인 수소화분해반응 및 수소첨가탈황반응)

  • The hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) were performed simultaneously over CoPtMo/LaY catalyst under high H$_{2}$ pressure. The structure and physical properties of this catalyst were characterized using XRD, IR and surface area analyzer. The origin of acid site was mainly Bronsted. The structures of impregnated molybdenum and platinum were deactivated by DBT to MoS$_{2}$ and PtS, respectively. The activities of the HDS and the hydrocracking increased with increasing temperature and pressure. They decreased with increasing the DBT mole ratio(DBT/n-heptane). They remained constant with increasing the H$_{2}$/H.C. mole ratio. With increasing pressure and DBT mole ratio, the products of secondary cracking increased. To perform simultaneous HDS and hydrocracking effectively, the optimum condition were 500.deg.C, 4MPa.

  • We have investigated the influence of Ti/Ba mole ratio in the characteristics of the modified BaTiO$_3$systems with Ca addition. The specimens were fabricated with variations in Ti/Ba mole ratio between 0.995 and 1.01, and sintered in the temperature range between 13$25^{\circ}C$ and 1375$^{\circ}C$. The room temperature resistivity, PTCR effect and ac complex impedence characteristics were studied. It shows that the room temperature resistivity was increased with the increasing Ti/Ba mole ratio and sintering temperature. It was suggested that this result was mainly attributed to its grain-boundary properties

  • the preliminary work on the prepartion of fine hydroxyapatite powder and the synthesis of dense hydroxyapatite ceramic from the powder were investigated for the development of artificial bone and tooth materials for implants. The effects of the process variables such as compositions of the raw materials the initial pH of the solutions and sintering temperature on the physical properties were investigated in order to determine the optimum conditions for the fabrication of tooth implant material. As the initial pH of the solutions was increased in the range of 10-11.6 the initial particle size of precipitates was decreased thus the sinterability of precipitates was improved. It was found that the composition of calcium rich of 1.75 in Ca/P mole ratio exhibited better sinterability and mechanical strength of the apatite ceramics for example the highest value of Vicker's hardness obtained from the compositions of 1.75 in Ca/P mole ratio was 764±30 Kg/mm2 compared to the maximum value of 600 kg/mm2 obtained from the compositions of 1.67 in Ca/P mole ratio.

UV-Curable Fluorinated Crosslinkable Polyurethane-Acrylates for Marine Antifouling Coatings

  • To prepare UV-curable polyurethane-acrylate oligomer, NCO-terminated urethane prepolymers with trimethylolpropane, [TMP; 0 (0), 0.1 (0.021) and 0.2 (0.043) mole (mole fraction)] as crosslinkable tri-functional chain extender were end-capped with pentaerythritol triacrylate [PETA; 2.0 (0.400), 1.7 (0.354) and 1.4 (0.304) mole (mole fraction)] with one hydroxyl group/three vinyl functionalities. The stable as-formulated UV-curable polyurethane-acrylates [stable mixtures of PETA-capped oligomer/reactive acrylic monomer diluents without/with heptadecafluorodecyl methacrylate (PFA; 0, 6 and 9 wt%)] were formed up to 0.2 (0.043) mole (mole fraction) of TMP content in the prepolymer, while homogeneous-mixing failed at 0.3 (0.068) mole (mole fraction), in which the crosslink density in NCO-terminated urethane prepolymer was too high to enable the formation of stable mixture. This study examined the effect of TMP/PETA molar ratio and heptadecafluorodecyl methacrylate (PFA) content (wt%) on the properties of UV-cured polyurethane-acrylates as marine antifouling coating materials. The properties of UV-cured polyurethane-acrylate were found to be significantly dependent on the crosslinkable TMP/PETA ratio and PFA content. With the increasing of the TMP and PFA contents, the contact angles increased, and consequently the surface tension decreased. The adhesion of algae/barnacles to PFA contained film samples were found to be sufficiently weak to allow their easy removal. These results suggest that the UV-cured samples containing PFA have strong potential as coating materials for antifouling applications.

  • Sinterability, mechanical and electrical properties of yttria-stabilized zirconia(92 mole% $ZrO_{2}$+8 mole% $Y_{2}O_{3}$) doped with 0.5 mole% $SiO_{2}$ and $0{\sim}2.0 mole%{\;}Al_{2}O_{3}$ were studied as a function of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ addition. Sintered density increased with increasing $Al_{2}O_{3}$ addition up to 0.5 mole % but leveled off with further addition. Victors hardness is proportional to sintered density. The specimen with 0.5 mole% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ and 0.5 mole% $SiO_{2}$ exhibited the maximum electrical conductivity and revealed a maximum electromotive force for a given oxygen partial pressure. Experimental voltage curve of this oxygen sensor take on a sharper, more steplike transition at the stoichiometric A/F ratio than those of other commercial oxygen sensors.

  • Copper-indium diselenide, $CuInSe_2$, thin films have been fabricated by selenizing Cu/In stacked layers with different sputtered Cu/(Cu+ln) mole ratios at 450.deg. C for 1hr on alumina substrates. The selenium source was selenium vapor. Microstructure, crystallization, and composition of the selenized $CuInSe_2$ films were examined by using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, and secondary ion mass spectrometry. Electrical resistivity and hall effects were also measured to investigate the electrical properties. As the sputtered Cu/(Cu+In) mole ratio of In/Cu layer increased, the amounts of void and CuSe phase in the selenized films increased but the composition of $CuInSe_2$ phase was the same regardless of the sputtered mole ratio. Comparing the electrical properties of $CuInSe_2$ thin film before and after the chemical etching, it was seen that the electrical resistivity, carrier concentration, and carrier mobility of the selenized films were affected by the amount of CuSe phase which seemed to increase primarily the hole concentration of the selenized films.

Effects of Heat Treatment on the Composition and Magnetic Properties of the Hydrothermal-Synthesized Ba-Ferrite Powder (수열합성 Ba-Ferrite분말의 조성과 자성에 미치는 열처리 효과)

  • After Ba-ferrite powders synthesized hydrothermally and its heated powders were dissolved partially with HCl treatment time, the BaO/Fe2O3 mole ratio of dissolved solutions and powders were measured by AAS, also, lattice constants, particle morphology and magnetic properties in HCl treated, heated and no-heated Ba-ferrite powders were abtained by means of XRD, SEM and VSM, respectively. From above analysis results, the effect of Ba/Fe mole ration in suspension(as starting material) on the BaO/Fe2O3 composition and particle characteristics of products were investigated, and the effect of heat treatment on magnetic properties of products examined. The composition, lattice constant and crystal phase of products depend on the Ba/Fe mole ratio in suspension. Ba content in surface or outer part of Ba-ferrite powder is higher than inner and heterogeneous, and the excess Ba ions in the inner part of particle move into the outer by heating, so that the mole ratio of BaO/Fe2O3 in the more jinner approaches more to the stoichiometric composition 1 : 6. The crystallinity, coercivity and saturation magnetization of products are increased by heat treatment, and the heat-treated samples synthesized hydrothermally in lower temperature are appreciated to have better powder characteristics.

Effect of Urea-Formaldehyde Resin Adhesive Viscosity on Plywood Adhesion

  • This work was conducted to investigate on the effect of urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin viscosity on plywood adhesion. The viscosity of UF resin was controlled either by adjusting the condensation reaction during its synthesis to obtain different target viscosities (100, 200 and 300 mPa.s) at two levels of formaldehyde/urea (F/U) mole ratios (1.0 and 1.2) or by adding different amounts (10, 20 and 30%) of wheat flour into the resins for the manufacture of plywood. When the viscosity of UF resin increased by the condensation reaction, the adhesion strength of plywood bonded with UF resin of 1.2 F/U mole ratio consistently increased, while those bonded with the 1.0 F/U mole ratio resin slightly decreased, suggesting a difference in the adhesion in plywood. However, the adhesion strength of plywood decreased as the viscosity increased by adding wheat flour, regardless of F/U mole ratio. The manipulation of UF resin viscosity by adjusting the condensation reaction was much more efficient than by adding wheat flour in improving the adhesion performance of plywood. These results indicated that a way of controlling the viscosity of UF resin adhesives has a great influence to their adhesion in plywood.

Anionic Polymerization of 2-Pyrrolidone by $SO_2/KOH$ Catalyst ($SO_2/KOH$ 촉매에 의한 2-Pyrrolidone의 음이온 중합에 관한 연구)

  • Polymerization of 2-pyrrolidone was carried out through anionic mechanism using $SO_2/KOH$ as catalyst. The effects of KOH concentration, $SO_2/KOH$ mole ratio and temperature on polymerization were investigated. The conversion and viscosity of polymers were measured at various polymerization conditions. It was observed that as the concentration of KOH was increased, equilibrium conversion was also increased. It was, however, found that after the concentration of KOH was reached above 8 mole percent, the equilibrium conversion was decreased. The highest rate of polymerization and maximum conversion were obtained when $SO_2/KOH$ mole ratio was around 0.5. It was also found that the rate of polymerization and the equilibrium conversion were higher at $50^{\circ}C$. than at $30^{\circ}C$. but the viscosity of polymer solution at $50^{\circ}C$. was not so high as expected. The rate constant, $K_p$ of polymerization, was determined by least square method: the value of $K_p$ was observed as 16 liter/mole hour at $50^{\circ}C$. and 2.6 liter/mole hour at $30^{\circ}C$., respectively. The mechanism of polymerization was also discussed.

  • The physical and dielectric properties of complex perovskite compound Sr(Mg1/3Nb1/3)O3-Ba(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3(BMT) system were investigated as a function of composition. As the mole ratio of BMN was increased, lattice parameter ratio c/a was slightly increased, and density was increased in SMN-BMN system. However, in BMN-BMT system, lattice parameter ratio c/a and density were decreased with increasing the mole ratio of BMN. Dielectric constant, dielectric loss at $25^{\circ}C$ and 100kHz, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, the dependence of temperature in capacitance were increased with increasing the mole ratio of BMN in SMN-BMN-BMT system. These result can be explained according to the degree of order=disorder and dielectric constant.
