The optical film for light luminance improvement of BLU that is used in LCD/LED and retro-reflective film is used as luminous sign consist of square and triangular pyramid structure pattern based on V-shape micro prism pattern. In this study, we analyzed machining characteristics of Cu-plated flat mold by shaping with diamond tool. First, cutting conditions were optimizing as V-groove machining for the experiment of micro prism structure mold machining with prism pattern shape, cutting force and roughness. Second, the micro prism structure such as square and triangular pyramid pattern were machined by cross machining method with optimizing cutting conditions. Burr and chip shape were discussed with material properties and machining method.
Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. The mold for forming the barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing processes such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. The mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124$\mu\textrm{m}$ , pitch 274$\mu\textrm{m}$ was acquired by machining of single crystal silicon with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom of the grooves was 59.6nm Ra in grooving Si. Barrier ribs were formed with silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved Si forming hard mold. Silicone rubber mold has the elasticity, which enable to accommodate the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP. The methods assisted by the microwave and UV was adopted for reducing the forming time of glass paste.

Short shot is a molded part that is incomplete since insufficient material was injected into the mold. Remedial actions to solve short shot can be dune by injection molding experts based on their empirical knowledge. Modifying mold and part, changing resin to less viscous one, and adjusting process conditions are general remedies. Experts of injection molding might try to adjust process conditions such as mold temperature, melt temperature, injection time based on their empirical knowledge as the first remedy because adjustment of process conditions is the most economic way in time and cost. However it is difficult to find appropriate process conditions as they are highly coupled and there are so many elements to be considered. In this paper, a fuzzy logic algorithm has been proposed to find an appropriate mold temperature. With the percentage of the insufficient quantity of an injection molded part, an appropriate mold temperature can be obtained by the fuzzy logic algorithm.
Polymer materials have a lot of merits including the low cost and the easiness of forming. For these reasons they are widely using at many manufacturing industries. Microcellular foaming process appeared at MIT in 1980s to save a quantity of material and increase mechanical properties. There are many process variables in appling microcellular foaming process to the conventional injection molding process. They can be solved by using Axiomatic Design Method which is very useful design method for designing a new product. Its main character is scientific and analytical. The information about the thickness of cavity plays an important role in making an effective foam. The goal of this research is to design mold system for advance of foaming magnitude with axiomatic design method. There is a relation between the change of cavitys thickness and foaming magnitude made after inserting a gas. R/t is a conception that indicate proportion between radius and thickness of cavity in mold system. By means of SEM observation of side surface of cavity sample, foaming magnitude of polymer in microcellular foaming process is decreasing gradually as the value of R/t is increasing. In this paper, an advanced mold system was presented by mapping the relation between functional requirements and design parameters.
Recently, lots of automobile part manufacturers try to increase glass fiber content of their plastic parts to improve strength and impact-resistance. For this reason, injection mold requires high hardness and wear-resistant. Laser surface treatment is used to improve characteristics of wear and to enhance the fatigue resistance for injection mold. In this paper, high carbon steel (HP4MA) for injection mold material was heat-treated to harden surface by using high power diode laser (HPDL). To find the process parameters for laser surface treatment of HP4MA, many experiments are carried out as changing the parameters of surface temperature and travel speed of laser. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum average hardness is approximately 711~739 Hv when the temperature and the travel of laser are $1,050^{\circ}C$ and 2 mm/sec.
Since mold industries are regarded as belonging to three types of bad business, capable young people are reluctant to work in this field. The industries are hard to employ skilled workers who have much experience and knowledge On the mold manufacturing. Thus, effective CAM systems are required for unskilled workers to create process plans and NC data for the manufacturing, and process plans play important roles in the downstream manufacturing processes, such as NC machining, polishing, and final assembly. This study proposes a decision support system that facilitates unskilled workers to easily select high quality NC-data, as well as to increase productivity. The proposed system is assumed to follow a CAM operation scenario that consists of next three steps: 1) identifying several process plans and enumerating feasible unit machining operations (UMOs) from material and part surface information, 2) creating all feasible NC-data based on UMOs using a commercial CAM system, 3) selecting the best NC data among the feasible NC data using four screening criteria, such as machining accuracy, machining allowance, cutting load, and processing time. A case study on the machining of a camera core mold is provided to demonstrate the proposed system.
Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to minimize filling imbalance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have sometimes been observed. These filling imbalances have historically been considered as result of uneven mold temperature and mold deflection, but it actually results from non-symmetrically shear, pressure, temperature distribution within melt material as it flows through the runner system. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions that are related to shear, pressure, temperature such as injection rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted using Taguchi method to determine which processing condition influence as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. As a result of experiments, this paper could present an optimal processing condition to minimize variable that brings about filling imbalance geometrically balanced runner system
Picosecond (ps) laser micro-machining has emerged as an attractive method of fabricating high-precision microstructures, especially in metals. In this paper, a metallic mold for diffraction gratings is fabricated with a mode-locked 12 Ps $Nd:YVO_4$ laser. Laser pulses with a wavelength of 355nm are irradiated on the surface of NOK 80, a mold material, to generate line patterns. In order to minimize the line width, laser power is set just above the ablation threshold of NOK 80. Results show that the spectrum from the fabricated mold is good enough for some industrial application.
Diffraction grating is the optical device which has periodic pattern. Decorative logotypes is the one of application of diffraction grating. In this paper diffraction grating for decorative logotype is fabricated by dot pattern in stead of line pattern. Recently, as small-sized display products such as mobile phones and digital cameras have become lighter and smaller, the size of electric signal delivery part, connector for the mobile display products, also, needs to become smaller, so high-density integration like shortening the distance between signal delivery media, conductors is necessary. With the micro and high-density integration of the connector, it is necessary to maintain contact to a certain degree for keeping intensity and delivering electric signal smoothly to prevent a defect with a specific impact. Accordingly, this study carried out a structural analysis according to the operating mechanisms of 0.16CHP Class Bottom Contact FPC Connector and 0.24CHP Class BTB Connector mostly used in small-sized mobile display products such as mobile phones and digital cameras. As a result of the analysis, both connectors had lower than 997MPa, yield strength of connector material C5240-XSH, so it is judged that permanent plastic deformation would not occur, and that a contact force between the connector and FPC film occurs to a certain degree, so that there would not be any defect in electric signal delivery.
