Ethyl Silicate의 가수분해에 의한 단분산 Silica 미립자의 합성(1) (Synthesis of Monodispersed Silica Fine Particle by Hydrolysis of Ethyl Silicate(1))

  • In order to synthesize monodispersed spherical silica fine particles, we investigated the reaction of hydrolysis of 0.05∼4.0 mole Si(OC2H5)4-0.01∼7.60mole NH3 -0.24∼38.40 mole H2O-2.62∼16.88mole C2H5OH systems. The range of the composition of solution which spherical silica particles were formed was enlarged according to an increase in concentration of Si(OC2H5)4. Larger particles were obtained at higher molar ratios of Si(OC2H5)4/C2H5OH, NH3/H2O and H2O/Si(OC2H5)4 and at a lower reaction temperature.

  • poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) was synthesized via condensation polymerization using different molar ratios of 1,3-propane diol (PDO)/terephthalic acid (TPA) in the presence of tetraisopropyl titanate (TiPT) as a polyesterifi-cation catalyst. The effect of reaction conditions on the characteristics of as-polymerized PTT was investigated.

  • Immobilization is seen as a promising technology for lead remediation. In a laboratory experiment, immobilization of lead with soluble P was tested as a function of reaction time and P concentration. The P treated with an acidic solution to enhance heavy metal immobilization was worked into the soil, and within 7 days, lead was stabilized. Different molar ratios of soluble phosphates (super-phosphate and KH$_2$PO$_4$) would be considerably effective to accelerate the formation of highly insoluble minerals due to the lack of leachable Pb in the contaminated soil. Although it was demonstrated that the addition of soluble phosphates with an acidic solution significantly reduced available lead in soil up to over 95%, remaining phosphorus in soil matrix might cause a possible groundwater eutrophication in the near future.

  • Glycolides were polymerized by PPG or Pluronic(PN) to give A-B-A block copolyesters consisting of polyglycolide(A) and polypropylene glycol(B) or polyglycolide(A) and PN (B). Lactones were easily copolymerized with polyethers by ester interchange reaction even in the absence of catalyst. It is because PPG and PN are telechelic polyethers having hydroxy groups on their both ends. When the feed ratio of PPG(M$_{n}$=4,000) and PN(M$_{n}$=11,500) were over 5 and 10 wt% .elative to glycolide, respectively, the polymerization of glycolide took place from the terminus hydroxy groups of PPG or PN to produce the desired A-B-A block copolymers in high yields. The molecular weights of the copolymers, which estimated from the monomer conversions and the feed ratios of PPG and PN, could be controlled by changing the kind of terminus hydroxy of polyether and the feed molar ratio of PPG and PN.   • Hydrodesulfurization of thiophene was studied over $Ni-W/TiO_2-ZrO_2$ catalysts in a fixed bed flow reactor. The ranges of experimental conditions were at the temperatures between 200$^\circ$C and 360$^\circ$C, the pressures between 20 X $10^5$ Pa. The catalysts were reduced with the flow of 10 L/hr of $H_2$ at the temperature of 350$^\circ$C. It was found that $TiO_2-ZrO_2$ supported catalysts had similar activity to $\gamma-Al_2O_3$ supported. The largest surface areas and the highest acidity occured as the binary oxides were mixed with equal molar ratios. The HDS increased with increasing temperatures, pressures and contact times.

  • Analysis of interferon alpha (IFN) modified with high molecular weight branched PEG was performed by capillary electrophoresis (CE) and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). IFN was modified by the reaction of amine residues with an active ester of monomethoxy polyethylene glycol at various molar ratios. As a CE method. capilary electrophoresis sodium dodecyl sulfate nongel sieving (CE-SDS NGS) was performed using an uncoated capilary filled with a hydrophilic replaceable polymer network matrix.   • Previously we formulated new cationic liposomes, DDC, composed of DOTAP. DOPE, and cholesterol (Chol) in 1 : 0.7 : 0.3 molar ratios, and showed that DDC efficiently deliver the plasmid DNA into ovarian cancer cell lines. Here, wild type p53 DNA was transfected into ovarian cancer cells, using the DOC as a nonviral vector and the expression and activity of p53 gene were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. The complexes of plasmid DNA (pp53-EGFP) and DDC were transfected into OVCAR-3 cells. The gene expression was determined by RT -PCR and western blot analysis. (omitted)

  • Water-soluble, chiral conducting, poly(diphenylamine) (PDPA) nanocomposites were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of diphenylamine in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as a template and camphor sulphonic acid (CSA) as the chiral inductor, Composites were formed as stable aqueous dispersions under different experimental conditions, such as DPA to PAA molar ratios, PAA molecular weight, etc. Circular dichroism(CD) spectra of the composites indicated the induction of chirality to PDPA. Compared to simple chiral PANI, the PDPA/PAA/CSA nanocomposites showed a different Cotton effect. The appearance of a CD band in the composite was complimentary to the bisignate, exciton-coupled band in the UV-Visible spectrum. FTIR spectra indicated the intimate mixing of PDPA and PAA.

Physical Solubility of Nitrous Oxide in Aqueous Amine Solutions

  • One of the most important parameters required to model the absorption of CO2 into aqueous alkanolamine solutions is physical solubility. However, since CO2 reacts in amine solutions, its physical solubility cannot be measured directly. As a result, a nonreacting gas which is similar to CO2 has to be used such as N2O. The solubility of nitrous oxide (N2O) in aqueous solutions of 0wt%-50wt% MDEA, 0wt%-30wt% DEA, and 50wt % total amine with DEA/MDEA molar ratios of 0.05, 0.25, 0.5 and 0.67 was measured using a modified Zipperclave reactor over a temperature range of 293-353 K with near atmospheric partial pressures of N2O. the solubility data from this work were K with near atmospheric partial pressures of N2O. The solubility data from this work were found to be in good agreement with previously reported data where available.

  • We prepared gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) by reduction-oxidation reaction between $HAuCl_4$ and trisodium citrate and measured the size and morphology of Au NPs by TEM for various molar ratios of $HAuCl_4$ to citrate and for various concentrations of $HAuCl_4$. UV-vis spectroscopy was used to characterize the optical properties of Au NPs. Au NPs in the size range from 14.3 nm to 20.3 nm were prepared with monodisperse distribution.
