In order to utilize mass of oyster shells for a partial substitute material for reclamation, we investigate the shear characteristics of dredged sluge mixed with oyster shells. the apparent modulus of elasticity of the this mixture are obtained from the triaxial compression tests and is utilized to characterize the apparent modulus of elastic of the oyster shells by carrying out some numerical analysis based upon the homogenization theory. We got the conclusion by a series of experiment, 1) It is verified that modulus of elasticity of dredged clay is improved by mixing with oyster shells. 2) The homogenization method for deducing apparent modulus of elasticity of oyster shells, which can consider micro-structure of mixed soil, is introduced. The elastic modulus is affected from the skeleton structure of oyster shell. The effect of 49kPa is bigger than that of 98kPa.
Structural changes of high modulus carbon fiber by oxidation in carbon dioxide gas using SEM, TEM, and XRD have been observed. It was shown that the originally high modulus carbon fiber is composed of highly ordered graphitic crystalline area and non-crystalline area. It was observed that the La increases during the whole oxidation process. It was shown that the oxidation of high modulus carbon fiber initiates at the non-crystalline area and at the ends of fiber. The large pores developed in fiber by direction of fiber length at high temperature ($1,100^{\circ}C$), and the small pores developed on the fiber surface at low temperature ($900^{\circ}C$). In conclusion, it is found that the oxidation of the carbon fiber was progressed through the imperfection.
PURPOSES : It is to evaluate lightweight soil as a subgrade material based on mechanical tests and calculation of pavement performance. METHODS : In this research, various contents of cement and air foam are used to make lightweight soil using wasted dredged soil. Uniaxial compressive strength test is conducted to evaluate strength of 7 and 28 day cured specimens. Secant modulus was calculated based on the stress and strain relationship of uniaxial compressive strength test. Resilient modulus test was measured using by repeated triaxial compression test. The measured resilient modulus was used in layered elastic program to predict fatigue and rutting life at a given pavement structure. RESULTS : Uniaxial compressive strength increases as cement content increases but decrease as air foam content increases. Resilient modulus also increases as cement content increases and decrease as air foam content decrease. CONCLUSIONS : It is concluded that dredge clay soil can be used as subgrade layer material using by lightweight treated soil method.
TRIP steel has got attention in automobile industry because of its high strength and high formability. However, the information on deformation behavior of TRIP steel, including bending and springback, is not enough until now. In this research, the V-die bending experiment and analysis have been done to obtain the information of springback of TRIP steel. And a new numerical method, where elastic modulus is varied with the change of the strain, was suggested. Tensile test for TRIP steel was done to get tensile properties as well as strain dependency of elastic modulus of the material. Strain-dependency of elastic modulus was used the numerical analysis of V-die bending and unbending process to predict springback amount. The results were compared with experiment, showing reasonable agreement. Through the analysis of V-die bending as well as draw bending of TRIP steel, the proposed scheme with variable elastic modulus was proven to well predict the deformation behavior of TRIP steel during bending and springback.
Larix kaempferi is a tree with a major economic impact and is processed in large quantity every year in Korea. This study was carried out to collect basic data for the reasonable use of Larix kaempferi and to investigate the relation between anatomical properties and modulus of rupture (MOR) for heartwood and sapwood. As the length of earlywood tracheid and the radial wall thickness of earlywood tracheid and latewood tracheid increased, the modulus of rupture (MOR) increased, but decreased with increasing microfibril angle. Statistical analysis by the stepwise regression technique shows that the main factors affecting the modulus of rupture (MOR) of heartwood are the microfibril angle and the radial wall thickness of latewood tracheid, while those affecting MOR of sapwood are the length of earlywood tracheid and the microfibril angle.
Purpose: This study performed the oscillatory test using the texture analyzer to characterize the viscoelastic behavior of apples such as the storage modulus (E'), the loss modulus (E"), the complex modulus (${\mid}E^*{\mid}$) and the energy dissipated per cycle ($W_{diss}$). Methods: The sinusoidal deformation with the frequency of 1-10 Hz and the maximum displacement of 0.1 mm were applied to the flesh tissues of Fuji, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious apples. The Lissajous figure was used to measure the phase angle(${\delta}$) between stress and strain curve. Results: Trigger force was critical to the measurement of the phase angle. E', E", ${\mid}E^*{\mid}$ and Wdiss were measured using the Lissajous figure and the phase angle. The complex modulus of Golden Delicious apple was significantly lower than those of Fuji apple and Red Delicious apple. Conclusions: Apple flesh was exhibiting more elasticity at low frequency, and more viscosity at high frequency. Dynamic compressive properties of Fuji apple were similar to those of Red Delicious apple but significantly different from those of Golden Delicious apple.

The field plate test has a good potential for determining since it measures both plate pressure and settlement. The deformation modulus of rock mass is differently measured for status of structures. The values of deformation modulus are obtained from laboratory test (uniaxial and triaxial test) and field test (pressuremeter test). Plate load test should be conducted by different loading plate sizes for geological structure of rock mass and scale of structures. In this paper, large plate load tests were performed to predict of structure's behavior and evaluate the ultimate bearing capacity of the foundation on soft rock. Simultaneously, deformation modulus of rock mass was estimated by back analysis of stresses measured in field test under rock mass. Finally, we verified the validation of deformation modulus of rock mass through result of large plate load test and numerical simulation.
The elastic modulus and the apparent density of the trabecular bone were evaluated from spherical indentation tests and Computed Tomography (CT) and their relationship was quantified. The femurs were prepared for trabecular bone analysis. Embedded with respect to their anatomical orientation, the transverse planes of the trabecular bone specimens were scanned at 1㎜ intervals using a CT scanner. The metaphyseal regions of femurs were sectioned with a diamond-blade saw, producing 8㎜ cubes. Using a specially made spherical indentation tester, the cubes were mechanically tested in the anterior-posterior (AP), medial-lateral (ML), and inferior-superior (IS) directions. After determination of modulus from the mechanical testing, the apparent densities of the specimens were measured. The results showed that the IS modulus was significantly greater than both the AP and ML moduli with the AP modulus greater than the ML modulus. This demonstrated that orthogonality was a structural characteristic of the trabecular bone. The power relationship between the modulus and the apparent density was also found to be statistically significant.
In this study, the modulus of elasticity of low, normal and high strength steel fiber reinforced concrete has been predicted by developing a fuzzy logic model. The fuzzy models were formed as simple rules using only linguistic variables. A fuzzy logic algorithm was devised for estimating the elastic modulus of SFRC from compressive strength. Fibers used in all of the mixes were made of steel, and they were in different volume fractions and aspect ratios. Fiber volume fractions of the concrete mixtures have changed between 0.25%-6%. The results of the proposed approach in this study were compared with the results of equations in standards and codes for elastic modulus of SFRC. Error estimation was also carried out for each approach. In the study, the lowest error deviation was obtained in proposed fuzzy logic approach. The fuzzy logic approach was rather useful to quickly and easily predict the elastic modulus of SFRC.

This paper deals with the equivalent shear modulus of the egg-box core. There are three approaches to obtain the equivalent shear modulus of core: a finite element analysis, an analytical study, and an empirical method. In this study, an 3-point bending test is used to evaluate the equivalent shear modulus of the Egg-Box core. As a result of the present work, the equivalent shear modulus of egg-box core at room temperature can be obtained. And this result is compared with the result of finite element analysis.
