  • In this paper, we present the performance of a multi-code parallel combinatory CDMA system using bi-orthogonal modulation under multipath fading channel. In general, the dynamic range of the amplitude of the transmit signal is very large in conventional multi-code CDMA systems, resulting in severe nonlinear distortion due to high power amplifier and thus significant BER performance degradation. Since the number of simultaneously multiplexed code channels in the proposed system is reduced, the proposed system exhibits reduction of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal amplitude with significant BER improvement. We verify the performance of the proposed system by computer simulations under the Vehicular B multipath fading channel model by ARIB.

A Novel M-ary Code-Selected Direct Sequence BPAM UWB Communication System

  • In this letter, a novel M-ary code-selected direct sequence (DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system is presented. Our purpose is to achieve a high data rate by an M-ary code-selected direct sequence bipolar pulse amplitude modulation (MCSDS-BPAM) scheme. In this system, a particular DS code sequence is selected by the $log_2M$/2 bits from the DS gold code set. This scheme can accomplish both a high data rate without increasing the system bandwidth or changing the pulse shape and improve the BER with an increase of modulation level M even at a lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The receiver signal processing algorithm is given for an MCSDS-BPAM UWB system over an ideal AWGN channel and correlation receivers.

  • In this paper, we propose an error control coding scheme for constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation. The product code is appropriate to the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation for the bit error rate performance improvement. In the constant-amplitude multicode-biorthogonal modulation, the vertical redundant bits are used for the constant amplitude coding. The proposed product code can be constructed by using the additional horizontal redundant bits. The hardware complexity of the encoder/decoder pair is very low.   • 본 고에서는 통신 시스템에 응용되고 있는 블록부호에 대한 소개와, IMT-2000 시스템의 표준화에서 채널 부호화 기법으로 규격에 반영된 길쌈부호(Convolutional code) 및 터보부호(Turbo code)에 대하여 소개하고, 현재 3세대 이동통신 표준화에서 논의중인 Hybrid ARQ(Adaptive Modulation and Coding), AMC(Adaptive Modulation and Coding) 기술에 대하여 설명한다. 그리고, 고속의 데이터 전송을 요하는 4세대 이동통신 시스템의 채널 부호화 기술로 현재 활발히 연구가 이루어지고 있는 Space-Time Code 및 LDPC(Low Density Parity Check Code)에 대해 소개하고, 차세대 이동통신 시스템의 채널 부호화 기술 전반에 대하여 전망한다.

  • Holographic data storage system is affected by two dimensional intersymbol interference and inter-page interference. Especially, for multi-level holographic data storage system, since one pixel contains more than 1 bit, the system is more vulnerable to the error. In this paper, we propose a 2/3 modulation code for 4-level holographic data storage system. The proposed modulation code with error correcting capability could be compensated these interferences. Also, in this paper, we proposed a Viterbi decoder for 2/3 modulation code. The proposed Viterbi decoder eliminates unnecessary calculation. As a result, proposed 2/3 modulation code and Viterbi decoder has shown better performance than conventional one.

  • In the holographic data storage system, the data can be stored more than one bit per pixel and the storage capacity and transmission rate can be increased. In this paper, we proposed a sparse-ON pixel 4/6 balanced-modulation code that the code rate is 1.33 (bit/pixel) with uniform page density. Even though the performance of the proposed sparse-ON pixel 4/6 balanced-code is similar to 2/3 and 6/9 modulation codes, it can increase the storage capacity more than these modulation codes and also store more pages in a volume by reducing the rate of ON pixels to mitigate IPI (inter-page interference).

  • The Multi-code (Mc) modulation has been developed for high-speed data transmission over the wireless environments, but it suffers two critical problems due to the limited resource of Orthogonal Codes (OC) and high Peak-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). In this paper, we propose a novel modulation technique called AOCG [1] (Advanced Orthogonal Code Group)-OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to solve the above problems and obtain the variable high bit rates which can be controlled by the four parameters depending on the quality of services (QoS) required by users.

  • A scheme is proposed for measuring similarities between the binary pulse signals in the pulse-code modulation using the Integra-Normalizer. The Integra-Normalizer provides a better interpretation of the relationship between the pulse signals by removing redundant codes, which maps all possible observed signals to one of the codes to be received with relative similarities between each pair of compared signals. The proposed method provides better error tolerance than L2 metric, such as Hamming distance, since the distances between pulse signals are measured not useful for the time-delay detection in the pulse-code modulation.

  • Quadrature amplitude modulation-spread spectrum (QAM-SS) and code division multiplexing (CDM) are multi-level modulation schemes with high performance but they cause a large peak-average power ratio (PAPR). Therefore, this paper proposes a novel modulation scheme for high-rate transmission which follows a sequence of CDM-mapping-CDM not only to correct the above-mentioned problem but also offer a high flexibility in obtaining arbitrary multilevel modulation with very low implementation complexity and high performance.
