Nylon 6 and nylon elastomer were prepared by anionic polymerization route. Nylon elastomers, composed of hard segment of polyamide(PA) and soft segment of polyether(PE), were synthesized by use of TDI terminated polyol with caprolactam. The morphology of the electrospun webs of nylon and nylon elastomers, observed by FE-SEM, showed that the porous electrospun web was composed of nanofibers, whose diameter were in the range of 100 to 180 nm. Their behavior of melting and crystallization and the chemical structure of nylon elastomers were investigated by DSC and ATR FT-IR. Result of tensile testing indicated that nylon has higher tensile strength and lower elongation than nylon elastomers. Atmospheric plasma(APP) with $O_2$ and $N_2$ as reactive gas modified the surface of electrospun nylon and electrospun nylon elastomers allowing them higher hydrophilicity, while APP with $CH_4$ as reactive gas modified the surface of polymers allowing higher hydrophobicity.
Polyurethane(PU) have an excellent flexibility and toughness so that it has been widely used as an elastomer. PMMA was blended with PU to improve the impact property. Five types of PU, having different molecular weight and different polyol types, were prepared and blended with PMMA in order to investigate the effect of molecular weight and polyol type of PU on property of PU-PMMA blend. Tensile strength of PU-PMMA blend was determined by Inston. Differential Scanning Calorymetry(DSC) and Scanning. Elctron Microscopy(SEM) were used to observe morphology change and glass transition temperature changes of PU-PMMA blends. Transparency of PU-PMMA blends was determined by haze meter. But, owing to intrinsic incompatability of PU-PMMA, Low impact strength of PMMA wasn't improved through PU-PMMA blend. therefore, polyurethane dimethacrylate(PUD), having similiar chemical structure to PU and two vinyl group at both ends, was prepared and reacted with methyl methacrylate(MMA) to form crosslinked copolymer Mechanical property of this crosslinked polymer, such as impact strength and transparency, was investigated by Instron, Izod type (Cantilever beam) impact tester and haze meter. Results of these measurements showed that crosslinked copolymer of PUD-MMA was better impact resistance than PMMA and maintained similar transparency to PMMA.
Unburned carbon (UC) was successfully separated from fly ash by up to 85.8% in weight via froth flotation using soybean oil as a collector. An 18 wt% yield of microceramics (CM) could be achieved by employing a hydro cyclone separator located immediately after the flotation equipment. UC and CM were tested as alternatives to weight-adding material and polymer (especially polypropylene in this study) filler, respectively. Large particles of UC were broken down into smaller ones via ball milling to have an average particle diameter of 10.2 ㎛. When crushed UC was used as an alternative to clay as a rubber weight-adding material, a somewhat lower tensile strength and elongation rate than the allowed values were unfortunately obtained. In order to satisfy the standard limits, further treatment of UC is required to enhance surface energy for more intimate bonding with rubber. CM was observed in spherical forms with an average diameter of 5 ㎛. The surface of the CM particles was modified with phenol, polyol, stearic acid, and oleic acid so that the surface modified CM could be used as a polypropylene-filling agent. The flowability was good, but due to the lack of coupling forces with polypropylene, successful impact strength and flexural strength could not be obtained. However, when mixing the surface-modified CM with 1% silane by weight, a drastic increase in both the impact strength and flexural strength were obtained.
In this study, TAPEH (t-amyl peroxy 2-ethyl hexanoate) was selected for the reaction initiator which is a core factor for developing acrylic polyol binder. Tone M100 (caprolactone acrylate), 4HBA (4-hydroxy butyl acrylate), and 2HEMA (2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate) were used for hydroxy-monomers. To check the applicability of raw materials mentioned above into the binders of 2 components acrylic polyurethane paint and reduce the VOC, the reactivity and film performance by different kinds of aliphatic polyisocyanate hardeners which are already generalized were reviewed. As the Tin-based catalyst has been regulated, the comparison test of reactivity and performance between the conventional catalyst and non-toxic metal catalyst recommended as the alternative was conducted as well. As a result, we were able to obtain the basic data which are necessary for applying 2 components high solid polyurethane paint and also reached a conclusion that it can be applied for developing new paints in terms of high performance, workability and environmental care.

A process designed to synthesize rigid polyurethane foam (PUF) with insulative properties via the modulation of PUF cell size via the addition of clay and the application of ultrasound was assessed. The blowing agents utilized in this study include water, cyclopentane, and HFC-365mfc, all of which are known to be environmentally-friendly blowing agents. The rigid PUFs were prepared from polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI) and polyether polyol with a density of $50kg/m^3$. In addition, rigid PUFs/clay nanocomposites were synthesized with clay modified by PMDI with and without the application of ultrasound. The PUF generated using water as a blowing agent evidenced the highest tensile strength. The tensile strength of the PUF/nanocomposites was higher than that of the neat PUF and the strength was even higher with the application of ultrasound. The cell size of the PUF/clay nanocomposites was less than that of the neat PUF, regardless of the type of blowing agent utilized. It appears that the higher tensile strength and lower cell size of the PUF/clay nanocomposites may be attributable to the uniform dispersion of the clay via ultrasonic agitation. The thermal conductivity of the PUF/clay nanocomposites generated with HCFC-141b evidenced the lowest value when PUF/clay nanocomposites were compared with other blowing agents, including HFC-365mfc, cyclopentane, and water. Ultrasound has also proven effective with regard to the reduction of the thermal conductivity of the PUF/clay nanocomposites with any of the blowing agents employed in this study. It has also been suggested that the uniformly dispersed clay particles in the PUF matrix function as diffusion barriers, which prevent the amelioration of the thermal insulation property.

The roll coating process is well-known for completely replacement coating system with an existing wet paint process for automotive which has low productivity and is not environment-friendly process. It is very important to evaluate the curing behavior, corrosion resistance and processing property as well as rheological behavior in order to realize a film flexibility and hardness simultaneously. In this study, we have synthesized the polyester resin modified with hydroxyl values and molecular weight to apply the pre-painted system, and then evaluated the curing behavior, deep drawing, tensile strength and rheological properties. It was observed that N-0375-40 of 40 (mg KOH/mol) hydroxyl values showed the most suitable for flexibility, film hardness, and curing behavior.
Montmorillonite (MMT) modified with siloxane diamine was reacted with a reactant obtained from 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and polyester type polyol, $Nippollan4010(\bar{M}_n2000)$. Finally, polyurethane (PU)/MMT composites were prepared by using 1,4-butane diol as a chain extender in $25\;wt\%$ solution of N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). It was expected that these nanocomposites had superior exfoliation property to that of MMT dispersed polyurethanes produced by simple mixing due to insertion of siloxane main chain to the silicate interlayer of MMT. Extent of reaction and formation of final products were analysed by using FT-IR spectroscopy. Dispersion into the PU and intercalation of MMT were identified by applying X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Tensile data were acquired by universal test machine (UTM). Thermal stability and variation of surface energy were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) method and measurement of contact angle on the synthesized composites, respectively. As the results the organo-MMT modified with siloxane diamine in the PU composites has an intercalated structure relatively well-expanded rather than a completely exfoliated structure. The tensile strengths and the moduli for the PU/organo-MMT composites were drastically enhanced in comparison to those of $PU/Na^+-MMT$ composites.
Unsaturated polyester(UP) resin is one of the major thermosetting resins. It is very useful as the matrix resin of the composite material because of its low viscosity. The polymer resin, however, has several drawbacks; The volume shrinkage occurs during the crosslinking reaction of the UP resin with styrene monomer and the resulting polymer is weak to the alkali and also brittle. The mechanical properties of UP resin can be improved by blending various materials. In this study, polyurethane(PU) was used as a modifier in order to enhance the toughness of the UP resin. The goal of the research is to study the effect of the polyol molecular weight as a PU soft segment and the PU contents on the toughness of PU-modified UP resins. UP/PU polymer network may occur through the reaction between isocyanate group in the methyldiisocyanate(MDI) and hydroxyl group in the UP molecules. The maximum toughness value was shown at 2 wt% of the PU content. This effect results from the incorporation of the PU segment into the UP resin.
1. The mycelial growth and sporulation of Mycogone perniciosa was compared on modified Czapek's media deficient in carbon source, nitrogen source, K,Mg, P or the heavy metal elements. The mycelial growth was significantly reduced in solution cultures lacking Mg, K or P and only a trace of growth occurred in solutions lacking carbon source or nitrogen source. Most sparse sporulation and smaller chlamydospores than on any of deficient agar media occurred on agar media dificient in carbon source or nitrogen source. 2. In both potato dextrose agar and malt extract solution, growth of the fungus was optimum at $25^{\circ}C$, and undetectable at $10^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$. 3. Optimum pH for growth of this fungus was 7.0. 4. This fungus was killed in soil when exposed to $50^{\circ}C$ or higher for 20 minutes or more.

Hydrophilic silica nanoparticles (SNPs) were treated by using 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxy silane (GPTMS) and then they were blended with polyurethane-urea (PUU) emulsions to obtain SNPs/PUU nanocomposite films. Thermo-mechanical properties of the nanocomposite films were investigated by varying the grafted amount of GPTMS onto SNPs and the contents of SNPs in the PUU matrix. The thermo-mechanical properties of the nanocomposite films were also compared in terms of the dispersibility of SNPs in the PUU matrix and thermal curing of the GPTMS-grafted SNPs. The maximum amount of grafted GPTMS was $1.99{\times}10^{-6}\;mol/m^2$, and which covered ca. 53% of the total SNP surface area. $^{29}Si$ CP/MAS NMR analyses with the deconvolution of peaks revealed the details of polycondensation degree and patterns of GPTMS in the surface modification of SNPs. The surface modification did not significantly affect colloidal stability of the SNPs in aqueous medium; however, the hydrophobic modification of SNPs offered a favorable effect on the dispersibility of SNPs in the PUU matrix as well as better thermal stability. XRD patterns revealed that GPTMS-grafted SNPs broadened the reduced the characteristic peak of polyol in PUU matrix. The composite films became rigid and less flexible as the SNP content increased from 5 wt.% to 20 wt.%. Particularly, Young's modulus and tensile modulus significantly increased after the thermal curing reaction of the epoxy groups in the SNPs.
