  • This study aims to explore the potential of integrating traditional Indian motifs into modern textile design that appeals to the MZ generation. The objective is to create patterns that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of India while aligning with contemporary sensibilities. To achieve this, the design process includes a comprehensive literature review on the historical background, symbolism, and structure of Indian textiles and a survey to determine if the developed design suits the preferences of the MZ generation. Digital design tools such as TexPro, Photoshop, and Illustrator were used to create the designs based on the theme 'Cosmic Dream,' with sub-themes inspired by nature and Indian symbolism. 'Blooming Cosmos' focused on the structural beauty of the lotus, combined with paisley and rangoli patterns, for a vintage yet modern appeal. 'Cosmos in Blossom' is drawn from the rangoli technique of using varied materials, resulting in a romantic pastel-themed pattern that aligns with the 2023 Youth Trend. 'Cosmic Peacock' presented a lively ethnic pattern by merging simplified lotus motifs with India's national bird, peacock along with a paisley backdrop. A questionnaire was conducted to check the MZ consumer responses, and the most preferred design was the peacock and rangoli mixed design, ground colored in cream. These findings indicate the potential of the developed ethnic designs to be used for various purposes. By combining traditional motifs of India with modern elements, this study proposes ethnic textile designs that are suitable for MZ generation consumers.

  • Unlike traditional rituals, modern Korean death rituals are carried out through ritual space caqlled a 'funeral home'. and the 'corpse clothes' the last garment worn by the deceased, is recognized as the most important ritual element. In this study, we will discuss the perceptions of tradition through the change of the corpse clothes. There are two types of clothing used for the deceased in Confucian literature centered on "Jujagarye" and "Sugui worn by the deceased through the procedures of the custom" and corpse clothing used to add clothes at Soryom(小殮) and Daeryom(大斂). However, it was investigated that through the Japanese colonial rule, the procedures for Seup(襲), Soryom(小殮) and Daeryom(大斂) were integrated, and the clothes to be worn by the deceased were changed to "sui" through the family ritual rule in 1969 as corpse clothes continued. Through this, the last garment of the deceased, the "wet robe," was changed into the "shroud" and settled, and it is meaningful to continue the discussion about what is right and what should be inherited from the perspective of "tradition" that we perceive.

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to find the literature basis on SuGi-therapy(手氣療法) in Donguibogam. Methods : Anma(按摩), Doin(導引), Angyo(按蹻), Anap(按壓) and Chuna(推拿), the keyword of this study, were researched, analyzed and classified in Donguibogam. Results : 1) In Donguibogam, the keyword Anma(按摩) and Doin(導引) showed up 10 and 33 times, respectively and 7 and 20 times, respectively in the body except the table of contents. In considering the meaningful cases, in short, Anma(按摩) and Doin(導引) appeared 7 and 16 times, respectively. Furthermore we could know Anma(按摩) showed up 4 times with the highest frequency in Oehyeongpyeon(外形篇), and Doin(導引) showed up 11 times with the highest frequency in Naegyeongpyeon(內景篇). 2) Anma(按摩) was mostly used as a separate word and only 2 times was "Anmadoin(按摩導引)" used. In 16 meaningful cases, Doin(導引) was used as "Doinbeop(導引法)" 14 times and 2 times was "Anmadoin(按摩導引)" used in a linked form. Among 14 times when "Doinbeop(導引法)" was referred, it was stated as "Do Doinbeop(導引法)" without any detailed explanations 2 times and it was explained about how to pose when people do Doinbeop(導引法) for prevention and treatment 12 times. 3) Reviewed in Donguibogam, Anma(按摩) and Doin(導引) were the ChoGi-therapy(調氣療法) in all. Because they include both massaging by oneself and getting a massage from someone else, they all could be 'SuGi-therapy(手氣療法)' in a broad sense. 4) In Sikjeokbyeong(息積病), the 12th chapter of Jeokchwimun(積聚文) in Japbyeongpyeon(雜病篇), Doinbeop(導引法) was referred as the treatment of Jeok(積) which belongs to obstinate and incurable diseases. This means SuGi-therapy(手氣療法) could be the basis of using widely on several incurable diseases in modern society. 5) There is few paper about SuGi-therapy(手氣療法). SuGi-therapy (手氣療法) doesn't seem to form a large part in modern Korean medicine but it is a remedy that has been together with the history of Korean medicine so long and has great therapeutic effects and usefulness. From now on, the literature and clinical study on SuGi-therapy(手氣療法) should be conducted continuously and developed for the better.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine pulmonary tuberculosis as the most pivotal event in the literary works of Yi Sang who has left the most peculiar legacy in Korean modern literary history. Before he developed pulmonary tuberculosis, Yi Sang led a relatively stable life as a social elite. He loved art, architecture, and arts in an omnidirectional way. He once lived an easy life without any collision of his different interests. At the age of 20 years in 1929, he won the first and third prizes when he submitted his work for a competition for a cover page by the < Joseon and Architecture > magazine. He was versatile and multi-talented to the extent that he announced his poems and novels and released his self-portrait in the architecture magazine. However, in 1933, he lost everything due to hemoptysis and embarked on a journey to recuperation in a hot spring resort in Baekcheon, Hwanghae Province, Korea. From that moment, Yi Sang started building his extraordinary literary legacy by producing a countless number of novels, poems, and essays. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the kind of arts that Yi Sang tried to pursuit was embodied in his literary works considering his surrounding environment and the fields of his interests, unlike an excessive number of existing studies that focused on stories about Yi Sang in literature. In other words, this study tried to investigate how the playfulness of literature met with a disease to become a literary work. Up to date, there have been several attempts to contemporarily interpret works of Yi Sang through visualization. This study analyzed movies such as < My Dear Keum Hong! (1995) >, < The Mystery of the Cube (1998) >, and < Five Senses of Eros (2009) > and drama such as < Yi Sang, That Yi Sang (2013) > to examine how they visualized and symbolized Yi Sang and recalled Yi Sang into contemporary time and space and to identify their communication system.

  • This research aimed to study the making of western men's coats in the early 19th century. First of all, the study figured out the concepts and forms of western men's tops in the early 19th century by collecting and categorizing pictures including engravings, paintings and pattern books, and literature data. Second, this research identified the patterns, sewing, and design techniques by examining the pattern books on men's clothing in the early 19th century, and analyzed the preserved costumes to restore the selected models. Third, this research presented historical evidences and patterns after designing a men's tailcoat of the early $19^{th}$ century and checking the fit based on the analyzed forms and design techniques. The research discovered that the analyzed results between the tailcoat forms depicted in literature, pictures and pattern books and preserved costumes were almost identical. From this, it can be assumed that the tailors followed a manual when designing garments during that time given the similarity between historical records and remaining items. In addition, it can be seen that the forms and designing methods of men's clothing in the 19th century were almost similar to that of the modern menswear, despite the differences in producing process.
