Seo Sang-cheon (1903-1950) was a sports leader and administrator who contributed greatly to the development of Korean sports after Japanese colonial era and liberation. And to us, he is known as the first person to introduce weightlifting to Korea. In this paper, through the main contents of the books of the 1930s related to this research topic, including the Modern Physical Fitness Promotion Act (1931) and the Modern Iron Stick Movement Act (1934), the main contents of Seo Sang-cheon's books related to physical training during this period, I would like to illuminate the characteristics such as infinite affirmation of the 'body training' and the exposure of disciplined upper body photographs in Seo Sang-cheon's writings related to physical training during this period. On the one hand, contrary to this, I tried to mention the regrets of his writings and political moves emphasizing the 'spirit' after the 1940s. We found that Seo Sang-cheon's early writings were focused on individual physical training, beyond the boundaries of nation and ethnicity. In contrast, his later writings reflect a shift towards thinking of personal physical training in alignment with the development of the state. We believe that this change in his writings demonstrates that Seo Sang-cheon's interests extended beyond physical education into political and social spheres, while also symbolizing a transformation in his perception of the body.
Modern furniture design is advancing by putting value on individual sensitivity. Accordingly, this study will focus on optical art, which can give various changes in people's sensitivity. Optical art was actively applied in various fields of image, photograph, fashion, textile, accessory and interior from the 1950s till the 1960s. Optical art realized by Victor Vasarely (1908~) opened a new trend in art by accurately realizing concise and precise expressions. This study analyzed the impact of pattern expression on sensitivity in optical art and suggested a method, which can spatiotemporally maximize the emotional change by combining optical art with the form of furniture. Modern furniture design is changing toward the direction of fitting to the propensity and emotional taste of an individual. Accordingly, this study analyzed the emotional expression felt in the furniture modeling works featured by concise, straight and standardized rectangular shape. Based on the result of analysis, this study would like to suggest a method to utilize optical pattern as a means for emotional design, with which people are able to perform various emotional expressions while keeping the function and form of furniture.
Avoiding the unified productivity that was caused by the mechanical and technical development due to Industrial Revolution in the past, modern design is incessantly evolving in search of new motive, namely, diversity. Further, we live in the age when the propensity that serves public interest and purpose and sometimes shows quite individual character should be considered. As a result, the comprehensive and harmonious trend of emotional design is being highlighted more remarkably. Involving the social background that further respects human dignity, this is closely related to diverse issues such as human right which should be guaranteed and pursued for individual. While the tradition and innovation caused by the encounter of machine and art had confrontation and conflict in the past, the direction has changed to incessant evolution and interaction where paradigm of technical progress and development is newly composed and changed in modern times. The meaning of service in medical area is expanding and developing from the simple treatment to the more comprehensive healing. Medical space will evolve to the healing space that attaches importance to emotional aspect of human dimension which further understands and respects human being in the future.
Death of a Salesman is centered on Willy Loman trying to achieve the American dream and taking his family along for the ride. This paper explores the meaning of his suicide in the work through the Adorno's theory on the individual's reification and commodity by an exchange value in the capitalism and argues that Bourdieu's capital classification shows the cause of his tragic decision. Reification refers to "the structural process whereby the commodity form permeates life in capitalist society." and Adorno called the reification of consciousness an epiphenomenon. The social-psychological level in Adorno's diagnosis serves to demonstrate the effectiveness and pervasiveness of late capitalist exploitation. According to Bourdieu, cultural capital can exist three forms: in the embodied state, in the objectifed state and in the instituionalized state. He states embodied capital is argued to be the most significant influence; however unlike other forms of capital (social, economic, etc.) obtaining embodied capital is largely out of the individuals' control as it is developed from birth. In conclusion, I suggest Death of a Salesman can be interpreted as a text criticizing the internalization of the subject, which is the result of the self-destructive mechanism of the subject in the logic of modern subject formation.
In modern manufacturing, a product consists of many components created by different processes. Variations in the individual component dimensions and in the processes may result in unacceptable final assemblies. Thus, engineers have increased pressure to properly set tolerance specifications for individual components and to control manufacturing processes. When a proper variation stack-up analysis is not performed for all of the components in a functional system, all component parts can be within specifications, but the final assembly may not be functional. Thus, in order to improve the performance of the final assembly, a proper variation stack-up analysis is essential for specifying dimensional tolerances and process control. This research provides a detailed case example of the use of variation stack-up analysis using a Monte Carlo simulation method to improve the defect rate of a complex process, which is the commutator brush track undercut process of an armature assembly of a small motor. Variations in individual component dimensions and process mean shifts cause high defect rate, Since some dimensional characteristics have non-normal distributions and the stack-up function is non-linear, the Monte Carlo simulation method is used.
To interpret a change of discourse can be a method to understand architectural space in progress. With this idea, features of modern age which motivated sense of the contemporary were considered in this study and subsequently characteristics of contemporary space differentiated from the modern were researched. First of all, features of subject which provided a base of modern thoughts were contemplated. The word 'modern' is used in wide and various terms but basically its core conception consists of reason and universal rationality. The subject of the modem age has vision-centric features just like an ideal representation principle of perspective. Given the fact, it was confirmed that a position to become a right subject, that is, a position controlled by reason existed and that it was to guarantee subject a truth. However, the contemporary subject keeps changing with a purpose of escaping from modern characteristics. It presents a tendency to escape from rationalism of the modern age and Platonism of the ancient Greece which established a basis of western ideology. The subject-centered ideas came to focus on the structure and relationship firmed fundamentally in deep inside of subject. The contemporary subject which escaped from the stiffen ideas bears a meaning through events taking place on immanence surface and serialization. Also, the contemporary architectural space is considered to go abreast with the change and trend. In conclusion, this study proved that features of event-oriented architectural space based on the changing contemporary subject appear as process-based space, user-participated space and individual-cognition space and the like.

In most of the modern libraries throughout the world, it is popular to adopt the author number which arranges the books or entries in alphabetical order of their author's names within the same ultimate class. However, viewed historically, that was the Western practice never used in the East before. Traditionally chronological order was followed in the East. Book number not only individualizes the books within the same class but also makes it easy for the user to choose and find out the relevant materials. In this respect, chronological book number is decidedly superior to all kinds of book number systems ever have been existed. Especially in these days of rapid obsolescence of documents and with serious problems of storage of documents, the chronological order seems to be the most modern and future-oriented of all other book number systems because it distinguishes clearly new materials from aged materials by the date of publication and controls the stack spaces mechanically and effectively. This writer devised New Chronological Book Numbers adaptable to both the Eastern and Western materials, and the system has been adopted at Yonsei University Library. The features of the system are as follows: (1) It is easy to type the call number in cataloging the Eastern and Western materials. That is because the structure of the chronological number is pure numerical notation by taking the last two figures of the year within twentieth century(e.g. 85 for AD 1985), that is 1900s, and the last three figures of the year from twenty-first century to thirtieth century, that is 2000s. (2) It does not make all classes have chronological number uniformly. Within the classes for individual biographies, genealogies and collections of biography of specific family, books about individual organization, individual literary and artistic works, philosophical works of the famous philosophers, books and its facsmile editions published before 1900, new editions, translations, commentaries, serials, chronological number is assigned to the author number as in the past. (3) It separates the Eastern materials from the Western materials and makes the typing easy in cataloging. That is because the subarrangement within the same chronological book number is made by the accession order which uses 'panjol-ponmun' or the characters of basic syllabic table of Korean alphabet in case of the Eastern materials and Roman alphabet in case of the Western materials.
Classicism pursued beauty comprised of a perfect form, and beauty was perceived as a state of sufficiency. Accordingly, a completed and permanent beauty was sought after; as a result, a perfect and flawless form became the mainstream, and there was an effort to visualize the eternal proportional perfection. In classicism, forms were perfectly embodied with systematic inevitability and absolute inflexibility, by which an extremely clear aspect appeared. This study analyzes a classical construction paradigm in modern fashion according to the five categories: 'Harmony and order by numerical proportion', 'Clear form', 'Simplification of form and two-dimensional Seh-form', 'Completed contracture structure', and 'Pluralistic unification', and the respective formative characteristics are as follows. First, in terms of the formative aspect of modern fashion,'Harmony and order by numerical proportion' results from thorough observance of extreme and golden section (proportion of 5 :8) which was an aesthetic standard of beautiful body in classicism. Second, 'Clear form' appears in clothes as individual clearness of structural elements expressing each part of body, and shows a well-established form possible to be grasped with equal and clear contour line. Third,'Simplification of form and two-dimensional Seh-form' comes out as form composition, single line, single layer structure, two-dimensional form and arrangement of elements of clothes through the front viewpoint caused by 2D diagramming work while fashion-designing and producing. Also, it is seen that two-dimensional proportion which is composed of sections through various harmonious lines and sides according to the simple two-dimensional compatibility principle is accomplished. Fourth, 'Completed contracture structure' emerges as an expression of stationariness, in other words, fixation of an overall impression. This is a tendency that the overall form is grasped as a fixedly intact shape without a big change of the silhouette of clothes. Fifth, 'Pluralistic unification' means that it respectively emphasizes all the parts composing clothes by making them individually independent at the same time as each element is inclusively shown with the harmony of the overall silhouette of clothes and many other details. This study examined classical formative characteristics through a theoretical research on a formative paradigm revealing the classical style. Also, the significance of classical or rational value of art was illuminated by observing what characteristics a classical formation paradigm shows in modern fashion. As a result, classical characteristics in modern fashion prove that classicism is not a merely past construction style separated from the present but a construction paradigm deeply involved in our reason system.

As the environment changes rapidly and the diversity of organizational members increases in the modern organization, interest is increasingly focused on empowering leadership that gives more authority and autonomy to the individual. In this study, we demonstrate an effective process for empowering leadership that was examined by focusing on the leader acceptance of organization members. For this purpose, 293 questionnaires were collected from employees working in corporations, and the mediating effects of individual leader acceptance on the relationship between empowering leadership and individual effectiveness (individual innovative behavior, individual performance) were verified. Hypothesis testing revealed that empowering leadership had a significant influence on both individual innovative behavior and individual performance. Second, in the relationship between empowering leadership and individual innovative behavior, individual leader acceptance was completely mediated. Third, in the relationship between empowering leadership and individual performance, individual leader acceptance was completely mediated. This study suggests that individual leader acceptance is important for empowering leadership effectiveness. In order for empowering leadership to be more effective, we propose that leaders make empowering behaviors according to the organization members' level of maturity and personal values.
This research focuses on the life and works of architect Yi Hunwoo, who was active in early 20th century. Yi has been previously mentioned in a few research documents, but not as a main subject of interest. Thanks to digitalized historic databases, the authors of this research were able to access more information about Yi. It was discovered that he was born in Korea in the late 19th century and then attended the Nagoya Higher Technical School in Japan. After repatriation, he participated in a few public projects in Korea as an in-house architect at the Governor-General's office, then started his own practice and produced his individual projects. He also contributed articles on innovations in residential design to newspapers. Chronologically, his activities as an architect preceeded those of Park Gilyong, who has been conventionally regarded as the first Korean modern architect so far. This research would like to establish Yi Hunwoo as a historic figure whose professional career spanned the earlier stage of the Korean modern architecture, based on the records of his life and professional activities. The authors do not wish to present the architectural analysis nor evaluation of his works, which will be subject to future researches.
