  • This paper considers the problem of estimating the error distribution function in nonparametric regression models. Sufficient conditions are given under which the kernel estimator of the error distribution function based on nonparametric residuals satisfies the law of iterated logarithm.

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for a realistic force feedback in a remote environment with varying communication time-delay. The remote environment is assumed as a virtual environment based on a computer graphics, for example, on-line shopping mall, internet game and cyber-education. The properties of a virtual object such as stiffness and viscosity are assumed to be unknown because they are changed according to the contact position and/or a penetrated depth into the object. The DARMAX model based output estimator is proposed to trace the correct impedance of the virtual object in real-time. The output estimator is developed on the input-output relationship. It can trace the varying impedance in real-time by virtue of P-matrix resetting algorithm. And the estimator can trace the correct impedance by using a white noise that prevents the biased input-output information. Realistic output forces are generated in real-time, by using the inputs and the estimated impedance, even though the communication time delay and the impedance of the virtual object are unknown and changed. The generated forces trace the analytical forces computed from the virtual model of the remote environment. Performance is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof haptic device and a spring-damper-based virtual model.

  • In this study, we derive an estimator based on autocovariance for the regression coefficients vector in the multiple linear regression model. This method is suggested by Park (2009), and although this method does not seem to be intuitively attractive, this estimator is unbiased for the regression coefficients vector. When the vectors of exploratory variables satisfy some regularity conditions, under mild conditions which are satisfied when errors are from autoregressive and moving average models, this estimator has asymptotically the same distribution as the least squares estimator and also converges in probability to the regression coefficients vector. Finally we provide a simulation study that the forementioned theoretical results hold for small sample cases.

  • A new bootstrap method combined with the stationary bootstrap of Politis and Romano (1994) and the classical residual-based bootstrap is applied to stationary autoregressive (AR) time series models. A stationary bootstrap procedure is implemented for the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE), along with classical bootstrap residuals for estimated errors, and its large sample validity is proved. A finite sample study numerically compares the proposed bootstrap estimator with the estimator based on the classical residual-based bootstrapping. The study shows that the proposed bootstrapping is more effective in estimating the AR coefficients than the residual-based bootstrapping.

  • Heat dissipation technology using flow resonant phenomenon is a kind of new concept in heat transfer area. A vibration exciter is needed to generate air turbulence which has the natural shedding frequency of heat system. A mechanical vibrating device for the air flow oscillation is introduced, which is driven by a moving coil actuator. An analytical dynamic model for this mechanical vibration exciter is presented and its' validity is verified by the comparison with experimental data. Values of some unknown system parameters in the analytic model are estimated through the system identification approach. Based on this mathematical model, the vibration exciter using strain displacement estimator is developed. And in the experiment, the feedback control is used. During the experimental verification phase, it turns out the high modal resonant characteristics of vibrating plate are the major barrier against obtaining a high bandwidth vibration exciter.

  • A number of techniques have been developed for estimation of speed or position in motor drives. The accuracy of these techniques is affected by the variation of motor parameters such as the stator resistance, stator inductance or torque constant. This paper is proposed a neural network based estimator for torque and stator resistance in IPMSM Drives. The neural weights are initially chosen randomly and a model reference algorithm adjusts those weights to give the optimum estimations. The neural network estimator is able to track the varying. parameters quite accurately at different speeds with consistent performance. The neural network parameter estimator has been applied to slot and flux linkage torque ripple minimization of the IPMSM. The validity of the proposed parameter estimator is confirmed by the operating characteristics controlled by neural networks control.

  • In the simple linear regression model Y = .alpha.$_{0}$ + .beta.$_{0}$Z + .epsilon. under the right censorship of the response variables, the estimation of the mean lifetime E(Y) is an interesting problem. In this paper we propose a method of estimating E(Y) based on the observations modified by the arguments of Buckley and James (1979). It is shown that the proposed estimator is consistent and our proposed procedure in the simple linear regression case can be naturally extended to the multiple linear regression. Finally, we perform simulation studies to compare the proposed estimator with the estimator introduced by Gill (1983).83).
