  • Recently, balanced scorecard is widely used in the public sector as well as in the private sector. Balanced scorecard system of a particular hospital is a very useful tool in the sense that it shows various measures for the management including the traditional financial measures. However, since it does not show the impact of action items, managers have to analyze his potential decisions. On the other hand, a system dynamics model for the management of a hospital can be used to predict future management status. In this paper, a balanced scorecard system with a system dynamics model is developed for a small sized hospital, and the feasibility and applicability of the system have been tested. It turns out the combination of the balanced scorecard and system dynamics technique can be comprised each other. The balanced scorecard system can take advantage of the data forecasted by the system dynamics model including the implementation of action items taken today. On the other hand, the key performance indicators and action items from the balanced scorecard system provide guidelines the scope and direction of the system dynamics model. The additional efforts of developing a system dynamics model are well compensated by the additional colorful functionalities of the system. This paper also covers the future research areas for the combined system to be more effectively developed.

  • Some successful scheduling systems are based on simulation technique. However, they are relatively expensive. A cost-effective solution is to apply general-purpose simulation software to the scheduling system. This paper is concerned with developing a simulation model for MPS(Master Production Schedule) evaluation system. The target system of the model is PC production system. AIM (Analyzer for Improving Manufacturing system), a well-known manufacturing oriented simulation software, is used for modeling tool. Eventually, the model can be included into an MPS evaluation system as simulation module and a scheduler can use the system to verify the MPS in advance.

  • A conceptual system dynamics model is developed to represent the dynamic mechanism between the number of hepatitis B virus and the defense system of the body. The simulation results shows that the model behaves within the reasonable ranges. The developed conceptual model is a first attempt to quantify the dynamic mechanisms of the hepatitis B virus, where only feedback structures are considered without bio-organism data. The next step would be to incorporate the model with bio-organism theory and to carry out case studies to identify personal characteristics. Since the current model is a conceptual model where quantitative results are not based on the sound background, the usage is limited only within the qualitative basis. It could be a effective educational tool for the patients. It also shows what-to-do lists in order to be used for forecast purposes.

  • In this study, a mathematical model fur analyzing the shift characteristics is proposed. The proposed model comprises power transmission system and vehicle system, which are coupled. And On-road car test is carried out in order to extract model parameters. Tile model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system. tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and gyro sensor. The other data, for example speeds, a throttle position and a brake signal, are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Using natural frequency and characteristic equation, vehicle model parameters are extracted from experimental data.

  • A mathematical model was developed to simulate the performance of a prototype wind-powered reverse osmosis desalination system. The model consists of two sub-models operated in a series. The first sub-model is the wind-energy conversion sub-model, which has wind energy and feed water as its input and pressurized feed water as its output. The second sub-model is a reverse osmosis (RO) process sub-model, with pressurized feed water as its input and the flow and salinity of the product water or permeate as its output. Model coefficients were determined based on field experiments of a prototype wind powered RO desalination system of the University of Hawaii, from June to December 2001. The mathematical model developed by this study predicts the performance of wind-powered RO desalination systems under different design conditions. The system optimization is achieved using a linear programming approach. Based on the results of system optimization, a design guide is prepared, which can be used by both manufacturer and end-user of the wind-driven reverse osmosis system.

  • The stimulatory effect of oxygen on the browning of a soy sauce model system (glucose-glycine in 18% NaCl solution) with or without added organic acids were investigated. The group incubated aerobically browned at a significantly higher degree than the group incubated anaerobically. Organic acids also positively affected the browning of the soy sauce model system.

  • The dynamic characteristics of two types of mathematical models for a rigid body suspension system are analyzed and compared in this paper. One is a linearized model which is commonly used in the engine mount system analysis, the other is a nonlinear model which usually applied to the pendulum type system. The typical 3 d.o.f's mathematical model, for convenience, is chosen as a simulation model, because it has fundamental dynamic characteristics of suspension system. Time responses and unbalance responses of the rigid body, transmitted forces and torques are simulated by using the mathematical model. From the results of computer simulation, it is approved that he nonlinear model is valid and the linearized model gives erroneous results in the case of the pendulum type suspension system. In addition, in this study the effects of design change on the dynamic characteristics of the suspension system are investigated. Mount locations, mount angles, lengths, stiffness and damping coefficients of suspension bars are chosen as design parameters.

  • The most important non-functional requirements for dependability of any Embedded Real-Time Safety Systems are safety, availability and reliability requirements. System architecture plays the primary role in achieving these requirements. Compliance with these non-functional requirements should be ensured early in the development cycle with appropriate considerations during architectural design. In this paper, we present an application of system architecture modeling for quantitative assessment of system dependability. We use probabilistic model checker (PRISM), for dependability analysis of the DTMC model derived from system architecture model. In general, the model checking techniques do not scale well for analyzing large systems, because of prohibitively large state space. It limits the use of model checking techniques in analyzing the systems of practical interest. We propose abstraction based compositional analysis methodology to circumvent this limitation. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been demonstrated using the case study involving the dependability analysis of safety system of a large Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).

  • To improve ship's maneuverability and carry out special goal POD propulsion system was equipped as propulsion and maneuvering system. To predict the maneuverability of a ship with POD propulsion system HPMM tests and POD open water test are carried out. In this paper modular model with 4 degree of freedom of a ship with twin POD propulsion system is presented. To use modular model the forces of POD propulsion system are measured separately from the hull forces. The measured forces and moments are analyzed by using modular model and whole ship model The simulation results of modular model are compared with those of whole ship model. From the present study it is Possible to analyze HPMM tests of a ship with twin POD propulsion system by modular model.
