Conventional aseismic design methods of R/C frame all but disregard the state of damage over the entire building frame. This paper presents an automated damage-controlled design method for R/C frames which aims at an uniform energy dissipation rate throughout the building frame, so that the resulting damage is uniformly distributed as much as possible over all element. The accuracy of the basic hystertic model and the damage model for R/C members is verified by reproducing the experimental load-deformation curves of one-bay one-story frames. Application of this design method to various frame structures indicate that 1) regardless of the structural properties or input earthquake characteristics, damage-controlled frames generally survive more severe earthquake excitations and suffer less damage than conventionally designed frames, and 2) member yielding strength in the lower stories of damage-controlled frames is larger than that for conventionally designed frames, while the trend is opposite in the upper stories.
In this study, three dimensional numerical analyses were performed with variation of pile spacing (S=3D, 4D, 5D) to compare the behaviour of single pile and pile group with cap in granite soil. In order to compare and analyze the lateral resistance of single pile and pile group by changing pile spacing, the pile group with array of $1{\times}3$ was employed. To reduce the computation time the symmetric boundary condition was used. And Druker-Prager model and elasticity model were used for granite soil and for concrete pile and cap, respectively. Using the analyses results of pile group in granite soil under lateral loading, p-y curve for pile group and single pile with changing pile spacing was drawn. With p-y curve p-multiplier was evaluated. As a result of analysis, the value of p-multiplier was increased with increasing pile spacing under 1.0 due to pile shadow effects.
The possibility of earthquakes in vulnerable regions indicates that efficient technique is required for seismic protection of buildings. During the recent decades, the concept is moving towards the insertion of base isolation on seismic prone buildings. So, investigation of structural behavior is a burning topic for buildings to be isolated in base level by bearing device. This study deals with the incorporation of base isolation system and focuses the changes of structural responses for different types of Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) isolators. A number of sixteen model buildings have been simulated selecting twelve types of bearing systems as well as conventional fixed-base (FB) scheme. The superstructures of the high-rise buildings are represented by finite element assemblage adopting multi-degree of freedoms. Static and dynamic analyses are carried out for FB and base isolated (BI) buildings. The dynamic analysis in finite element package has been performed by the nonlinear time history analysis (THA) based on the site-specific seismic excitation and compared employing eminent earthquakes. The influence of the model type and the alteration in superstructure behavior of the isolated buildings have been duly assessed. The results of the 3D multistory structures show that the lateral forces, displacement, inertia and story accelerations of the superstructure of the seismic prone buildings are significantly reduced due to bearing insertion. The nonlinear dynamic analysis shows 12 to 40% lessening in base shear when LRB is incorporated leading to substantial allowance of horizontal displacement. It is revealed that the LRB isolators might be potential options to diminish the respective floor accelerations, inertia, displacements and base shear whatever the condition coincides. The isolators with lower force intercept but higher isolation period is found to be better for decreasing base shear, floor acceleration and inertia force leading to reduction of structural and non-structural damage. However, LRB with lower isolator period seems to be more effective in dropping displacement at bearing interface aimed at reducing horizontal shift of building structure.
In this paper, we propose the MDBMS(Multi-DataBase Management System) which integrates the LDBMSs(Local DataBase Systems) with heterogeneous environment into distributed system and provides global users with rapidly query process. For designing the MDBMS, we define the functions of components and design the interaction among them. In a point of view of the global view manager in components, we describe the following 3 cases; (1)the case which the results for the global query are all stored to the global view repository, (2)the case which no result exists in the global view repository, and (3)the case which the partial results we stored to the global view repository. By comparing above cases, we establish the functionalities of our MDBMS through the sequence diagram including the interlace of among objects and the method calling. Finally, we propose the model designed in the concrete by showing the executing procedures of each function using sample query on established functions mentioned above.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the energy saving and cost benefit analysis of the Low-income Energy Efficiency Treatment Program supported by KOREF(Korea Energy Foundation). This program was launched in 2007 and performs building energy retrofit for the low-income and energy poverty houses. Method: Energy simulation and cost benefit analysis were accomplished for the low-income detached houses. The structure of detached house was a lot og block structure, wood frame (single glass) and concrete roof. Baseline model of the low-income detached houses was proposed. Result: Annual heating energy consumptions were decreased by about 3.2% with the window system replacement(Case 1), 9.3% with reinforcement of insulation(Case2), and 12.5% with both(Case 3) compared to those of baseline model. The construction cost will be recouped within 5 years for the Case 1, 3 years for the Case 2, and 3 years for the Case 3. Case 3 was the most cost beneficient construction method in the analyzed cases in this study.

The variations of the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration at the top of prestressed concrete reactor building due to random variability and/or model uncertainty of structural parameters are studied. The results may be used as essential input parameters in seismic probabilistic risk assessment or seismic margin assessment of the reactor building. The sensitivity test of each structural parameter is first performed to determine the most influential parameter upon the natural frequency of structure model. Then Monte Carlo simulation technique is applied to evaluate the effect of parameter variation on the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration. The acceleration time history is obtained by direct integration scheme. As the study results, it is found that the fundamental natural frequency and the peak response acceleration at the top of the building are most strongly affected by Young's modulus among the structural parameters, in which the value of mean plus one standard deviation obtained by probabilistic approach deviates up to about (+)12% from the result of deterministic method. Considering the uncertainty of flexural rigidity, the structural responses vary in range of (-)4%~(+)14%.

Structural analysis is performed to design anchor straps for a large-scale-liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) storage tank with corner protection and an inner tank by considering structural integrity. Anchor straps made of 9% nickel steel are attached to the inner tank, corner protection, and concrete raft to prevent the failure of the inner tank during both normal and emergency operating conditions. Two finite element (FE) models were analyzed in this study. One is a stand-alone model of the anchor strap, while the other is an extended model of the substructure of the anchor strap, inner tank, and corner protection. Three-dimensional shell elements are used to effectively assess the bending and axial behavior of structures. The Tresca stress values in each part of the two models are calculated for operation under five different load-condition cases: normal operation, leakage of the LNG, hydro test, and two earthquake conditions.

The use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites is significantly growing in construction and infrastructure applications where durability under harsh environmental conditions is of great concern. In order to examine the applicability of FRP rebar as a reinforcement in flexural member, flexural tests were conducted. 12 beams with different FRP materials such as CFRP, GFRP and Hybrid FRP and reinforcement ratio were tested and analyzed in terms of failure mode, moment-deflection, flexural capacity, ductility index and sectional strain distribution. The test results were also compared with the theoretical model represented in ACI 440.1R06. Test results indicate that the flexural capacity of the beams reinforced by FRP bars can be accurately predicted using the ultimate design theory. They also show that the current ACI model for computing the deflection overestimates the actual deflection of GFRP series and underestimates the deflection of CFRP series.
To understand the deformation behavior of nonwoven geotextiles(NWGT) reinforced soil wall, analyses of load-elongation properties, soil-reinforcement interface friction, laboratory model tests, and field cases throughout literature reviews are being studied in this paper. According to the analyses results, the stiffness and tensile strength of NWGT is increased in proportion to confinement pressures, and the interface shear strength at soil-NWGT appeared to be stronger than soil-geogrid interface. The deformation at the beginning of loading on NWGT reinforced soil wall is larger than geogrid reinforced soil wall, but the wall deformation with NWGT is smaller than the wall of geogrid after passing some loading point in laboratory model tests. Case analysis results have shown that the facing of NWGT reinforced soil wall should be rigid enough to be used as a permanent wall, and NWGT and in-situ poor soil can be used for reinforcement and backfill respectively if the wall is constructed as pre-reinforced soil body and with post-facing that has a full-height rigid concrete.
There are many theoretical analyses and experimental studies of the hydrodynamics for the tension leg platform (TLP) of a floating wind turbine. However, there has been little research on the arrangement of the TLP's internal structure. In this study, a TLP model and a 5-MW wind turbine model as proposed by the Minstitute of Technology and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have been adopted, respectively, to comprehensively analyze wind effects and wave and current combinations. The external additional coupling loads on the TLP and the effects of the loads on variables of the internal structure have been calculated. The study investigates preliminary layout parameters-namely, the thickness of the tension leg body, the contact mode of the top tower on the tension leg, the internal stiffening arrangement, and the formation of the spoke structure-and conducts sensitivity analyses of the TLP internal structure. Stress is found to be at a maximum at the top of the tension leg structure and the maximum stress has low sensitivity to the load application point. Different methods of reducing maximum stress have been researched and analyzed, and the effectiveness of these methods is analyzed. Filling of the spoke structure with concrete is discussed. Since the TLP structure for offshore wind power is still under early exploration, arrangements and the configuration of the internal structure, exploration and improvements are ongoing. With regard to its research and analysis process, this paper aims to guide future applications of tension leg structures for floating wind turbine.
