  • This paper presents a step-down DC-DC converter with On-chip Compensation for battery-operated portable electronic devices which are designed in O.13um CMOS standard process. In an effort to decrease system volume, this paper proposes the on chip compensation circuit using capacitor multiplier method. Capacitor multiplier method can minimize error amplifier's compensation capacitor size by 10%. It allows the compensation block of DC-DC converter be easily integrated on a chip and occupy less layout area. But capacitor multiplier operation reduces DC-DC converter efficiency. As a result, this converter shows maximum efficiency over 87.2% for the output voltage of 1.2V (input voltage : 3.3V), maximum load current 500mA, and 25mA output ripple current. This voltage mode controled buck converter has 1MHz switching frequency.

  • In this study the finite element method is utilized to predict the deflection and vibration characteristics of rectangular plates made of saturated porous functionally graded materials (PFGM) within the framework of the third order shear deformation plate theory. Material properties of PFGM plate are supposed to vary continuously along the thickness direction according to the power-law form and the porous plate is assumed of the form where pores are saturated with fluid. Various edge conditions of the plate are analyzed. The governing equations of motion are derived through energy method, using calculus of variations while the finite element model is derived based on the constitutive equation of the porous material. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling and finite element approach can provide accurate deflection and frequency results of the PFGM plates as compared to the previously published results in literature. The detailed mathematical derivations are presented and numerical investigations are performed while the emphasis is placed on investigating the effect of the several parameters such as porosity volume fraction, material distribution profile, mode number and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and deflection of the PFGM plates in detail. It is explicitly shown that the deflection and vibration behaviour of porous FGM plates are significantly influenced by these effects. Numerical results are presented to serve as benchmarks for future analyses of FGM plates with porosity phases.

  • This paper presents an experimental work for short circular steel tube columns filled with normal concrete (NAC), recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), and RAC with silica fume and steel fiber. Ten specimens were tested under axial compression to research the effect of silica fume and steel fiber volume percentage on the behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube columns (RACFST). The failure modes, ultimate loads and axial load- strain relationships are presented. The test results indicate that silica fume and steel fiber would not change the failure mode of the RACFST column, but can increase the mechanical performances of the RACFST column because of the filling effect and pozzolanic action of silica fume and the confinement effect of steel fiber. The ultimate load, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of RACFST columns can exceed that of corresponding natural aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (NACFST) column. Design formulas EC4 for the load capacity NACFST and RACFST columns are proposed, and the predictions agree well with the experimental results from this study.

  • In this study eleven beam of steel fibre-reinforced concrete were tested on concentrated load in order to evaluate the shear strength and deformation of the beams after burning. Variables considered in the test include spaces of shear reinforcement (stirrups) and temperature (normal temperature at 38℃, 300℃, 600℃ and 900℃). The steel fiber used is set at 0.5% of the concrete volume. The phenomenon of the test results shows that although the beams were tested to achieve shear failure, the fact that all the tested beams did not encounter any shear failure. It has shown the influence of steel fibers and stirrups that plays a role in determining the mode of collapse. The concrete shear capacity of steel fibrous concrete beams installed with stirrups in altered spacing variations is not significantly different from each other, while beam deformability increases when the space stirrups are reduced. Furthermore, models of the developed-steel fibrous shear strength are compared and discussed with experimental results.

  • This paper was focused on the particulate matter (PM) on the gasoline and bio ethanol. Bio ethanol as a clean fuel is considered one of the alternative fuels that decreased the PM emission from the vehicle. Particle formation in SI engine was depended on the fuel and engine operating condition. In this paper, Particle number concentration behaviors were analyzed by DMS500 (Differential Mobility Spectrometer) and CPC (Condensation Particle Counter) instrument which was recommended by PMP (Particle Measurement Programme). Particle emissions were measured with various engine operating variables such as air excess ratio ($\lambda$), spark timing and intake valve opening (IVO) at part load condition. In vehicle test, the number of particulate matter was analyzed with golden particle measurement system, which was consist of CVS (Constant Volume Sampler), particle number counter and particle number diluter.

  • In this study, we investigated and evaluated the air conditioning operation of the driver according to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of a car parked outside during the summer. We suggest including a comfort mode to the car air conditioning system to improve the thermal comfort of the driver, in which the comfort can be maintained for a longer time. For the a result of our experiment, in the cases with temperature of above $45^{\circ}C$ inside of the car, the subjects preferred strong air blow with the face and the arms in the direction of the blow. In the cases with temperature of below $40^{\circ}C$ inside of the car, the subjects preferred lower volume of air blow. In the temperature below $28.1^{\circ}C$ inside of the car, the mean temperature on the skin of the driver reached the comfort zone.

  • The cool-down performance after soaking is very important in an automotive air-conditioning system and is considered as a key design variable. Therefore, transient characteristics of each system component are essential to the preliminary design as well as steady-state performance. The objective of this study is to develop a computer simulation model and ostinato theoretically the transient performance of an automotive air-conditioning system. To do that, the mathematical modelling of each component, such as compressor, condenser, receiver/drier, expansion valve, and evaporator, is presented first of all. The basic balance equations about mass and energy are used in modelling. For detailed calculation, condenser and evaporator are divided into many sub-sections. Each sub-section is an elemental volume for modelling. In models of expansion valve and compressor, dynamic behaviors are not considered in this analysis, but the quasisteady state ones are just considered, such as the relation between mass flow rate and pressure drop in expansion device, polytropic process in compressor, etc. Also it is assumed that there are no heat loss and no pressure drop in discharge, liquid, and suction lines. The developed simulation model is validated by comparing with the laboratory test data of an automotive air-conditioning system. The overall time-tracing properties of each component agreed well with those of test data in this case.

  • This paper provides a new topology optimization technique which is intended to maximize the fundamental frequency with simultaneous consideration of other natural frequencies in the form of multi-frequency problems. The modal strain energy is considered as the objective function to be minimized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The resizing algorithm based on the optimality criteria is adopted to update the hole size existing inside the material. From numerical tests, the proposed technique is found to be very effective to maximize the fundamental frequency of the structure and it can also successfully consider several higher mode effects into the optimum topology of structure through the introduction of weights.

  • Two or more distinct materials are combined into a single functionally graded material (FGM) where the microstructural composition and properties change gradually. Thermal post-buckling behavior of uniform slender FGM beams is investigated independently using the classical Rayleigh-Ritz (RR) formulation and the versatile Finite Element Analysis (FEA) formulation developed in this paper. The von-Karman strain-displacement relations are used to account for moderately large deflections of FGM beams. Bending-extension coupling arising due to heterogeneity of material through the thickness is included. Simply supported and clamped beams with axially immovable ends are considered in the present study. Post-buckling load versus deflection curves and buckled mode shapes obtained from both the RR and FEA formulations for different volume fraction exponents show an excellent agreement with the available literature results for simply supported ends. Response of the FGM beam with clamped ends is studied for the first time and the results from both the RR and FEA formulations show a very good agreement. Though the response of the FGM beam could have been studied more accurately by FEA formulation alone, the authors aim to apply the RR formulation is to find an approximate closed form post-buckling solutions for the FGM beams. Further, the use of the RR formulation clearly demonstrates the effect of bending-extension coupling on the post-buckling response of the FGM beams.
