  • Inhomogeneity Is important in wave coupling and mode conversion. We numerically examine the conversion of extraordinary(X) waves into upper hybrid(UH) waves in inhomogeneous plasmas by using a three-dimensional multi-fluid numerical model. A one-dimensional Inhomogeneous density profile is assumed in a cold and collisionless plasma. The density gradient is taken to be perpendicular to the magnetic field. An impulsive input is assumed to excite the X waves in the inhomogeneous box model. (omitted)

  • In this paper, a direct down conversion LNA/Mixer has been designed and tested for 900Mhz UHF RFID application. The designed circuit has been implemented in 0.18um CMOS technology with 3.3V operation. In this work, a common gate input architecture has been used to cope with the higher input self jamming level. This LNA/Mixer is designed to support two operating modes of high gain mode and low gain mode according to the input jamming levels. The measured results show that the input referred P1dBs are 4dBm of high gain mode and 11dBm of low gain mode, and the conversion gains are 12dB and 3dB in high and low gain mode respectively The power consumptions are 60mW for high gain mode and 79mW for low gain mode. The noise figures are 16dB and 20dB in high gain mode and low gain mode respectively.

  • This study analyzed the recognition of local residents surrounding farmland conversion area. The details of the survey on the residents included recognition of farmland conversion, the usage and reason of farmland conversion in the surrounding area, impacts of farmland conversion on the local region and agricultural production, and change in farmland prices. According to the analysis, the aging of the local residents progressed, and the ratio of farming population was high in the case study area. There were many warehouse facilities and small scale factories in terms of farmland conversion in the case study area, due to the surrounding area characteristics of industrial complex and relatively cheaper land prices. The farmland conversion affected the local area and residents both positively and negatively, and the surrounding area's land prices rose. The policy implications, based on the findings in this study, indicate the following need to be carried out: the consolidation of action on farmland pollution upon farmland conversion, review of planned collective conversion mode, and return of the land price hike profits to the affected local area and residents. Actually, farmland conversion should be conducted, after a comprehensive and systematic review, because it affects the local area and residents in a complex way.

  • The full results of troubleshooting process related to the flight control system of a tilt-rotor type UAV in the flight tests are described. Flight tests were conducted in helicopter, conversion, and airplane modes. The vehicle was flown using automatic functions, which include speed-hold, altitude-hold, heading-hold, guidance modes, as well as automatic take-off and landing. Many unexpected problems occurred during the envelope expansion tests which were mostly under those automatic functions. The anomalies in helicopter mode include vortex ring state (VRS), long delay in the automatic take-off, and the initial overshoot in the automatic landing. In contrast, the anomalies in conversion mode are untrimmed AOS oscillation and the calibration errors of the air data sensors. The problems of low damping in rotor speed and roll rate responses are found in airplane mode. Once all of the known problems had been solved, the vehicle in airplane mode gradually reached the maximum design speed of 440km/h at the operation altitude of 3km. This paper also presents a comprehensive detailing of the control systems of the tilt-rotor unmanned air vehicle (UAV).

  • Diesel emission control is being addressed worldwide to help preserve the global environment. This paper mainly deals with the effects of oxidation catalysts to reduce emissions from the automotive heavy-duty diesel engine. Two types of the oxidation catalyst with different kinds of precious material were used. An 11 litter displacement diesel engine with turbocharger was operated to evaluate DOC with various engine speed, load conditions under D-13 mode cycle. We could propose the detail emission data of an automotive heavy-duty diesel engine and the characteristics of the conversion efficiency of the DOC under the D-13 mode. It was found that the mean conversion efficiencies of CO and THC were 49.7% and 61% under the D-13 mode test, respectively.

  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-function conversion block for microwave receiver. The proposed multi-function conversion block is composed of a broadband voltage controlled oscillator and a dual-mode mixer. Depending on whether the bias voltage is supplied, the first IF(Intermediate Frequency) output frequency(4,595 MHz/6,045 MHz) needed in microwave receiver is converted to 720 MHz and the another IF output frequency(720 MHz) for receiving Ku-band has the multi-functional operations of the dual mode that are bypass and attenuation without frequency conversion. Implementation and measurement results show that each intermediate frequency has conversion loss characteristic according to the LO power. The LO power conversion loss of 4,595 MHz at the LO levels from 2 dBm to 4 dBm is 13 dB, another of 6,035 MHz is 12 dB and the other of 720 MHz is 7.0 dB.

  • In this paper, dual-gate mixer has been designed and optimized to have variable conversion gain for WiBro and WLAN applications and to save power. With the LO power of 0dBm and RF power of -50dBm, the mixer shows 15dB conversion gain. When RF power increases from -50dBm to -20dBm, the conversion gain decreases to -2dB with bias change. The variable conversion gain can reduce the high dynamic range requirement of AGC burden at IF stage. Also, it can save the dc power dissipation of mixer up to 90%.

  • In this paper, a low-power direct-conversion transmitter based on current-mode operation, which satisfies the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, is proposed and implemented in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The proposed transmitter consists of DACs, LPFs, variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer, a divide-by-two circuit with LO buffer, and a drive amplifier. By combining DAC, LPF, and variable gain I/Q up-conversion mixer with a simple current mirror configuration, the transmitter's power consumption is reduced and its linearity is improved. The drive amplifier is a cascode amplifier with gain controls and the 2.4GHz I/Q differential LO signals are generated by a divide-by-two current-mode-logic (CML) circuit with an external 4.8GHz input signal. The implemented transmitter has 30dB of gain control range, 0dBm of maximum transmit output power, 33dBc of local oscillator leakage, and 40dBc of the transmit third harmonic component. The transmitter dissipates 10.2mW from a 1.2V supply and the die area of the transmitter is $1.76mm{\times}1.26mm$.
