  • This paper presents the design and fabrication results of a voice coil type actuator for auto focusing(AF) functional module of mobile phone cameras. Axisymmetric FEM and 3-dimensional FEM is used to analyze and design the actuator, and the performance is verified by fabrication and evaluation of it. The size of the fabricated 2M pixel AF module is $10.5{\times}10.5{\times}7.9mm$, and the operating performance was satisfactory.

  • Recently mobile phone camera become generally spread, it is required to develop high resolution, multi-functional camera module for obtaining high image quality. To satisfy this demand, number of pixels has been increased and pixel size decreased in small mobile phone cameras. As a result, image quality is seriously dropped by blur phenomena. Especially when hand tremble is occurred, image quality is dropped by camera shake. Therefore, to obtain high quality image, it is necessary to compensate user's hand tremble. In this paper, we propose voice coil actuator for compensating hand tremble, which can apply optical image stabilization (OIS) system. Sensitivity analysis and size optimization are performed to obtain high driving force. Finally, it is confirmed that the optimized electromagnetic circuit can be applied in OIS system.

  • A novel interaction method for mobile phones using their built-in cameras is presented. By estimating the path connecting the center points of frames captured by the camera phone, objects of interest can be easily extracted and recognized. To estimate the movement of the mobile phone, corners and corresponding Speeded-Up Robust Features descriptors are used to calculate the spatial transformation parameters between the previous and current frames. These parameters are then used to recalculate the locations of the center points in the previous frame into the current frame. The experiment results obtained from real image sequences show that the proposed system is efficient, flexible, and able to provide accurate and stable results.

스마트폰 카메라에서 다중 영상을 이용한 영상 잡음 제거 알고리즘 (An Image Denoising Algorithm Using Multiple Images for Mobile Smartphone Cameras)

  • 본 연구에서는 동일한 환경에서 스마트폰 카메라에서 촬영한 여러 장의 영상들로부터 얻을 수 있는 정보를 활용하여 영상 잡음을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있는 알고리즘을 개발한다. 이를 위해 스마트폰의 제한된 연산능력에 맞는 다중 영상 정합(registration) 알고리즘을 개발하고, 다중 영상들의 정보들을 조합하여 효과적으로 영상 잡음을 제거하는 방법을 제시한다. 제시한 알고리즘을 정량적으로 잡음 제거 성능을 측정하기 위해 PSNR 값으로 비교 시 단일 영상을 이용할 때보다 훨씬 향상된 PSNR 값 향상을 가져왔다. 실제 안드로이드 스마트폰에 해당 알고리즘을 개발하여, 실제 사용 가능한 수준의 영상 처리 속도로 만족할만한 잡음 제거 효과를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • This paper describes the method how to control an autonomous robot remotely using Internet. The autonomous robot that has an artificial brain is called "Tarou". (1) It is able to move along the line on the floor based on processing the image data obtained from two CCD cameras. (2) It is able to understand dialogs between human being and it and is able to take actions such as turn right and lefts, go forward 1m and go backward 0.5m, etc. (3) It is able to recognize patterns of objects. (4) It is able to recognize human faces. (5) It is able to communicate human being and to speak according to contents written in the program. We show the techniques to control the autonomous robot "Tarou" remotely by personal computer and/or portable Phone via Internet. The techniques developed in our research could dramatically increase their performance for..the need of artificial life robot as the next generation robot and national homeland security needs.

Field-Curvature Correction According to the Curvature of a CMOS Image-Sensor Using Air-Gap Optimization

  • Lens designers generally refer to flat image fields and attempt to minimize the field curvature. Present-day CMOS image sensors for mobile phone cameras, however, are not flat, but curved. Sometimes it is necessary to generate an intentional field curvature according to the degree and direction of the CMOS image-sensor’s curvature. This paper presents the degree of curvature of a CMOS image sensor measured using an interferometer, and proposes an effective compensation method that minimizes the net field curvature through optimizing the air gap between lens elements, which is demonstrated using simulations and experiments.

Adaptive White Point Extraction based on Dark Channel Prior for Automatic White Balance

  • This paper presents a novel automatic white balance (AWB) algorithm for consumer imaging devices. While existing AWB methods require reference white patches to correct color, the proposed method performs the AWB function using only an input image in two steps: i) white point detection, and ii) color constancy gain computation. Based on the dark channel prior assumption, a white point or region can be accurately extracted, because the intensity of a sufficiently bright achromatic region is higher than that of other regions in all color channels. In order to finally correct the color, the proposed method computes color constancy gain values based on the Y component in the XYZ color space. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives better color-corrected images than recent existing methods. Moreover, the proposed method is suitable for real-time implementation, since it does not need a frame memory for iterative optimization. As a result, it can be applied to various consumer imaging devices, including mobile phone cameras, compact digital cameras, and computational cameras with coded color.

고배율 줌 광학계의 상면 오차 보정 방법 (Focus-adjustment Method for a High-magnification Zoom-lens System)

  • 줌 렌즈는 이제 휴대폰에도 적용되기 시작했다. 휴대폰에 적용되는 줌 렌즈는 주로 망원 영역을 촬영하기 위해 적용되고 있으며, 이러한 광학계는 고배율 줌 광학계와 유사하게 초점거리가 길어서 부품의 제작 오차에 의한 촬상 소자의 위치도 크게 변한다. 이를 보정하기 위해 기존에는 렌즈군 1군과 광학계 전체를 이동해서 촬상 소자의 위치 변화를 보정했으나, 본 논문에서는 이동하는 렌즈군 2개를 임의로 선택해서 촬상 소자의 위치를 보정할 수 있음을 확인했다. 다만, 이를 위해서는 이동하는 렌즈군 앞쪽과 뒤쪽으로 간격을 더 확보해야 함을 알 수 있었다.

모바일 이미지 기반의 문자인식 시스템 (The Character Recognition System of Mobile Camera Based Image)

  • 최근 모마일 폰의 발달과 스마트 폰의 보급으로 인해서 많은 콘텐츠들이 개발되어지고 있다. 특히, 모바일 휴대장치에 소형 카메라가 탑재되면서부터 카메라로부터 입력되어지는 영상 기반 콘텐츠 개발은 사람들의 흥미뿐만 아니라 활용 면에서도 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 그중 문자인식 시스템은 시각 장애인 보행 보조 시스템, 로봇 자동 주행 시스템, 비디오 자동 검색 및 색인 시스템, 텍스트 자동 번역 시스템 등과 같은 활용영역에서 매우 광범위하게 쓰일 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 스마트 폰 카메라로 입력되는 자연 영상에 포함되어 있는 텍스트를 추출 및 인식하고 음성으로 출력해주는 시스템을 제안하였다. 텍스트 영역을 추출하기 위해 Adaboost 알고리즘을 이용하고 추출된 개별 텍스트 후보영역의 문자 인식에는 오류 역전파 신경망을 이용하였다.

AR Anchor System Using Mobile Based 3D GNN Detection

  • AR (Augmented Reality) is a technology that provides virtual content to the real world and provides additional information to objects in real-time through 3D content. In the past, a high-performance device was required to experience AR, but it was possible to implement AR more easily by improving mobile performance and mounting various sensors such as ToF (Time-of-Flight). Also, the importance of mobile augmented reality is growing with the commercialization of high-speed wireless Internet such as 5G. Thus, this paper proposes a system that can provide AR services via GNN (Graph Neural Network) using cameras and sensors on mobile devices. ToF of mobile devices is used to capture depth maps. A 3D point cloud was created using RGB images to distinguish specific colors of objects. Point clouds created with RGB images and Depth Map perform downsampling for smooth communication between mobile and server. Point clouds sent to the server are used for 3D object detection. The detection process determines the class of objects and uses one point in the 3D bounding box as an anchor point. AR contents are provided through app and web through class and anchor of the detected object.
