  • The Election paradigm can be used as a building block in many practical problems such as group communication, atomic commit and replicated data management where a protocol coordinator might be useful. The problem has been widely studied in the research community since one reason for this wide interest is that many distributed protocols need an election protocol. However, mobile ad hoc systems are more prone to failures than conventional distributed systems. Solving election in such an environment requires from a set of mobile nodes to choose a unique node as a leader based on its priority despite failures or disconnections of mobile nodes. In this paper, we describe a solution to the election problem from mobile ad hoc computing systems and it was proved by temporal logic. This solution is based on the Group Membership Detection algorithm.

  • Mobile ad hoc networks represent self-configuring networks of mobile devices that communicate without relying on a fixed infrastructure. However, traditional routing protocols in such networks encounter challenges in selecting efficient and reliable routes due to dynamic nature of these networks caused by unpredictable mobility of nodes. This often results in a failure to meet the low-delay and low-energy consumption requirements crucial for such networks. In order to overcome such challenges, our paper introduces a novel multi-objective and adaptive routing scheme based on the Q-learning reinforcement learning algorithm. The proposed routing scheme dynamically adjusts itself based on measured network states, such as traffic congestion and mobility. The proposed approach utilizes Q-learning to select routes in a decentralized manner, considering factors like energy consumption, load balancing, and the selection of stable links. We present a formulation of the multi-objective optimization problem and discuss adaptive adjustments of the Q-learning parameters to handle the dynamic nature of the network. To speed up the learning process, our scheme incorporates informative shaped rewards, providing additional guidance to the learning agents for better solutions. Implemented on the widely-used AODV routing protocol, our proposed approaches demonstrate better performance in terms of energy efficiency and improved message delivery delay, even in highly dynamic network environments, when compared to the traditional AODV. These findings show the potential of leveraging reinforcement learning for efficient routing in ad hoc networks, making the way for future advancements in the field of mobile ad hoc networking.

  • Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is an infrastructure-less network that can configure itself without any centralized management. The topology of MANET changes dynamically which makes it open for new nodes to join it easily. The openness area of MANET makes it very vulnerable to different types of attacks. One of the most dangerous attacks is the Resource Consumption Attack (RCA). In this type of attack, the attacker consumes the normal node energy by flooding it with bogus packets. Routing in MANET is susceptible to RCA and this is a crucial issue that deserves to be studied and solved. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to study the impact of RCA on two routing protocols namely, Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR); as a try to find the most resistant routing protocol to such attack. The contribution of this paper is a new RCA model (RCAM) which applies RCA on the two chosen routing protocols using the NS-2 simulator.

  • Wireless devices can communicate between each other without existing infrastructure in mobile Ad-hod network. Ad hoc networks can be used under difficult conditions, where it is difficult to construct infrastructures, such as shadowing areas, disaster areas, war area, and so on. In order to support to considerable and various wireless services, more spectrum resources are needed. However, efficient utilization of the frequency resource is difficult because of spectrum scarcity and the conventional frequency regulation. Ad-hoc networks employing cognitive radio (CR) system that guarantee high spectrum utilization provide effective way to increase the network capacity. In this paper, we simulate and compare the performance of conventional single and cooperative spectrum sensing with CR system using ad-hoc networks. And we demonstrate performance improvement by analyzing the system performance.

  • In this paper, we propose an entropy-based routing protocol to effectively support both stable route construction and route lifetime in Mobile Ad-hoc Wireless Sensor Networks (MAWSN). The basic idea and feature of the proposed routing protocol are as follows. First, we construct the stable routing routes based on entropy concept using mobility of mobile nodes. Second, we consider a realistic approach, in the points of view of the MAWSN, based on mobile sensor nodes as well as fixed sensor nodes in sensor fields while the conventional research for sensor networks focus on mainly fixed sensor nodes. The performance evaluation of the proposed routing protocol is performed via simulation using OPNET(Optimized Network Engineering Tool) and analysis. The results of the performance evaluation show that the proposed routing protocol can efficiently support both the construction of stable route and route lifetime in mobile ad-hoc wireless networks.

  • In mobile ad-hoc wireless networks, one of the most important challenging issues is how to conserve energy, maximizing the lifetime of route(networks) in the view points of both power and mobility of nodes. However, many transmission methods presented in the previous works can not satisfy these two objectives simultaneously. To obtain these two goals, in this paper we propose an architecture to support power saving transmission services with route stability in mobile ad-hoc wireless networks. The proposed architecture consists of two parts, the underlying route stability method to support route(network) lifetime and the power saving transmission methods. The performance evaluation of the proposed architecture is achieved via simulation and analysis.

  • A mobile ad-hoc network is composed of only mobile nodes, which are distributed dynamically, without any wired backbone or centralized entities. Since the existing works on ad-hoc routing protocol are mostly biased toward a military application, we need a new routing scheme for a support of multimedia services in mobile ad-hoc networks. Therefore, we propose a novel scheme that can support a variety of traffic attributes and can be applicable to high-speed and multimedia data services in mobile ad-hoc networks by using adaptive transmission power level. As a result of simulation, the proposed scheme has better performance than conventional method, which is performed with uniform transmission power level, in view of route query delay time.

  • Ad hoc network is a kind of new wireless network paradigm for mobile hosts. Ad Hoc wireless networks consist of wireless mobile hosts forming a temporary network without the aid of any established infrastructure or centralized administration. Mobile hosts rely on each other to keep the network connected. Each host is not only mobile hosts but also router. So how to design a routing protocol is the most important problem. Dynamic source routing is a kind of routing protocol. In this paper we suggest a new automatic route shortening method and an energy-aware routing mechanism based on DSR.

  • An advantage of the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is that mobile nodes can self-organize the network topology without the help of network infrastructure. However, for the perfect self-organization of the MANET, each mobile node needs to self-configure its address. Even though a mobile node configures a unique address during the booting time, its address may conflict with nodes in other MANETs since MANETs containing the same address can be merged. The address autoconfiguration protocol implemented in this work consists of the strong DAD (Duplicate Address Detection) and the weak DAD. A unique address of a node is assigned by the strong DAD during the booting time and the weak DAD is used to detect address conflict and resolve address conflict during the ad hoc routing. In this work, we have implemented address autoconfiguration in the IPv6-based MANET using AODV as the routing protocol. We describe how the IPv6 address autoconfiguration is implemented and verify our implementation by showing the test scenarios on our testbed.
