Study on the Flash Point Determination of 2-Propanol-Toluene Mixtures (2-프로판올과 톨루엔 혼합물질의 인화점 측정에 관한 연구)

  • The lower flash points and upper flash points of 2-propanol and toluene mixtures were determined by air-blowing method instead of Tag-closed flash point tester. The relations between the flash points and the composition of the mixtures are as follows, $T_{F.L}=4.3182+6.0909X_1$ $T_{F.U}=39.3636-2.9091X_1$ As results, the experimental data and the estimated values from the relations are considerably agreed, and we could plotted the relative diagram between flash points and the explosive range.

  • Six kinds of weathered granite soils whose degree of weathering and mineral compo- sitions are different, were tested in order to improve the soil-cement. by performing compression test, durability (freezing-thawing) test and mesurement of shrinkage are made. From result of the tests as mentioned above, the following conclusions are drawn. The unconfined compressive strength of seondary additives containing soil-cement mixtures and their resistance against freezeing-thawing are more increased and shrinkage is more decreased than soil-cement mixtures only in case opitimun quantity of additives are added to soil-cement mixtures, and according as types of soils.

  • Direct numerical simulations (DNSs) of ignition of lean primary reference fuel (PRF)/air mixtures under homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) conditions are performed using 116-species reduced chemistry. The influence of variations in the initial temperature field, imposed by changing the variance of temperature, and the fuel composition on ignition of lean PRF/air mixtures is studied using the displacement speed analysis.

  • A chemical tool was developed for the analysis of complex mixtures such as crude drugs by the method of pattern recognition. Pattern recognition was accomplished by a multiple reference peak identification method and three kinds of outlier statistics. This tool was tested on the analysis of synthetic mixtures.

  • In the original mixtures of experts framework, the parameters of the network are determined by gradient descent, which is naturally slow. In [2], the Expectation-Maximization(EM) algorithm is used instead, to obtain the network parameters, resulting in substantially reduced training times. This paper presents the new EM algorithm for prediction. We show that an Efficient training algorithm may be derived for the HME network. To verify the utility of the algorithm we look at specific examples in time series prediction. The application of the new EM algorithm to time series prediction has been quiet successful.

  • Leachate generated from landfill material flows through soil gravitationally downward and. continues to flow until it encounters groundwater, posing the thread of pollution. So selection of liner material having a low permeability and testing method are required. The study was performed to find bentonite content of soil-bentonite mixtures for using as liner and cover of waste landfills. This paper includes results of consolidation tests and permeability tests and evaluates suitability and properties of soil-bentonite mixtures as impervious materials.

  • Commercial Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) filaments were treated in solvents mixtures such as benzyl alcohol/perchloroethylene(BA/PER), benzyl alcohol/trichloroethylene(BA/TRI), benzyl alcohol/ethylene chloride(BA/EC), metha nol/perchloroethylene(ME/PER), and methanol/trichloroethyle(ME/TRI). Swelling of PET in solvent mixtures showed rapidly in the middle range of mixture ratio. Contribution of swelling of each component to total swelling of binary mixtures with increasing treated time was generally showed in proportion to the mixture ratio of the each component in dependence of the extend of swelling.

  • The recent Bistable Nematic ($BiNem{(R)}$) LCD technology presents long term bistability, high level passive matrix multiplexing and high optical quality. The BiNem device, based on anchoring breaking, needs specific low anchoring strength materials - alignment layers and liquid crystal mixtures. We present here our approach to develop nematic mixtures with wide enough temperature range and low zenithal anchoring energy.

  • Solvolysis of 1-adamantyl chloride, -bromide and -tosylate have been studied in methanol-acetonitrile mixtures. Rate maxima were found for 1-adamantyl bromide and tosylate at 80-90 % methanol mixtures. The rate maximum observed was interpreted as a result of cooperative enhancement of cation and anion solvation. 1-Adamantyl tosylate had small cation solvation but had extensive anion solvation. It was concluded that the Y scale based on adamantyl tosylate is superior to others since it varies in a wide range especially for weakly ionizing medium.

Demension reduction for high-dimensional data via mixtures of common factor analyzers-an application to tumor classification

  • Mixtures of factor analyzers(MFA) is useful to model the distribution of high-dimensional data on much lower dimensional space where the number of observations is very large relative to their dimension. Mixtures of common factor analyzers(MCFA) can reduce further the number of parameters in the specification of the component covariance matrices as the number of classes is not small. Moreover, the factor scores of MCFA can be displayed in low-dimensional space to distinguish the groups. We propose the factor scores of MCFA as new low-dimensional features for classification of high-dimensional data. Compared with the conventional dimension reduction methods such as principal component analysis(PCA) and canonical covariates(CV), the proposed factor score was shown to have higher correct classification rates for three real data sets when it was used in parametric and nonparametric classifiers.
