A CFD analysis for a thermal mixing experiment during steam jet discharge was performed to develop the analysis methodology for the thermal mixing between steam and subcooled water and to find the optimized numerical method. In the CFD analysis, the steam condensation phenomena by a direct contact was modelled by the so-called condensation region model. The comparison of the CFD results with the test data showed a good agreement as a whole, but a small temperature difference was locally found at some locations. However, the commercial CFD code of CFX4.4 together with the condensation region model can simulate the thermal mixing behaviour reasonably well when a sufficient number of mesh distribution and a proper numerical method are adopted
When asymmetric thermal-hydraulic conditions occur between cold legs, the core inlet temperature will be nonuniform if the coolant is not mixed perfectly in the lower plenum. These uneven core inlet conditions may induce the change in core power distribution. Thus realistic prediction of thermal mixing is important in such abnormal conditions. In this study, reactor internals, which are scaled down as to conserve the flow area ratio, are set up in the model of KORI Unit 1 with the scaling factor of 1/710 by volume and coolant temperatures are measured beneath the lower core plate. Based on experimental results, the ability of COMMIX-1B code to simulate the coolant mixing phenomena in the lower plenum is estimated. The results show that complete mixing never occurs in any conditions and the mixing pattern is characterized according to the plant type.
An experiment was carried out to confirm the validity of time series evaluation of supersonic mixing condition by using catalytic reaction on a platinum wire. Geseous hydrogen was injected parallel to supersonic freestream (M$\infty$$\approx$ 1.81) from a slit injector, which was located at backward facing step. Time series condition of supersonic mixing was evaluated by using W-type probe which has a platinum wire and reference wire (nickel wire). The evaluation was by simultaneously measuring each electric circuit which kept the temperature of wire constant. Investigations were also conducted for helium, air and no secondary injectant cases to compare with the hydrogen injectant case. The results indicated that it was possible to measure the time series behavior of air and hydrogen supersonic mixing layer or coherent motion of turbulence by using this evaluation.

Lithiated transition metal oxides such as LiMn2O4, Lil-xMnO$_2$, LiNiO$_2$, LiCoO$_2$, and their solid solution phases are used as cathode materials for lithium rechargeable batteries. We prepared the cathode materials using a novel eutectic self-mixing method without any artificial mixing procedures. This method provides an extraordinarily simple way to make the cathode materials, and it is possible to prepare at very low temperature such as 25$0^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the cathode materials produced have discharge capacities that are much better than cathode materials prepared by previously reported synthetic methods. The spontaneous and homogeneous mixing is verified by $^{7}$ Li magic-angle-spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy.
As the demands of environment protection increase, the pulp mold container is developed to substitute for the plastic cushion materials like EPS(expanded poly styrene). The water-absorbing ratio, tensile strength and compressive strength of pulp mold are important factors to evaluate its shock absorbing characteristics. The study was performed to investigate the effects of the mechanical property changes on the various conditions of temperature and relative humidity for pulp mold containers made of mixed materials on ONP(old newspaper) and OCC(old corrugated container). This study also is evaluated the optimized mixing ratio of materials for making pulp mold by analyzing the changes of physical properties according to a various procured temperature and relative humidity conditions. The results show that the water absorption ratio of sample increased significantly, and tensile strength decreased $20{\sim}30%$, compressive strength decreased $10{\sim}20%$ by increasing relative humidity condition. And the results show that the ONP 50% and OCC 50% was optimized mixing ratio according to the samples.

A special upper-air observation including airsonde and pibal observations was performed to investigate the characteristics features of the vertical distribution of the meteorological elements over Taegu on a selected clear day of each season from October 1991 to August 1992. The diurnal and seasonal variations of the vertical profiles of air temperature and mixing ratio were obtained from airsonde observations and wind speed and direction from pibal observations. The results of these special upper-air observations are as follow : The diurnal variation of the vertical distribution of air temperature reveals the characteristic features associated with the atmospheric boundary layer. All case days, except for the summer season, show upper-level inversion layer which influenced by surface high, and surface inversion layer produced by radiative cooling. The diurnal variation of mixing ratio shows the maximum vale at 1500 LST in both the upper and low levels, and is larger on the lower level than the upper level. The mixing ratio of the lower level is larger than that of the upper level. On the average the mixing ratio decrease with the height, and is the wettest on the summer case day and the driest on the winter case day. The diurnal variation of the wind velocity and direction are variable in the lower level with time and height, while they are steady in the upper level. On the average, the wind direction is southerly or southeasterly for the summer case day, westerly or northwesterly for the spring and fall case days, and northerly or northwesterly for the winter case day.
Assuming that summer surface waters in the South Sea (northern East China Sea) are formed mostly by a mixing of three source water (Changjiang Discharge Water; Kuroshio Water and Yellow Sea Surface Water) we apply optimum multiparameter (OMP) analysis to calculate the mixing ratio of each source water to a given surface water. Since OMP requires more parameters than the number of water types (three in this study), we utilize two radium isotopes of dissolved $^{226}Ra\;and\;^{228}Ra$ along with temperature and salinity. Parameter values of each source water are deduced from in situ and historical data. Results with three source of waters on the surface waters are quite promising with less than $1\%$ of unanswered portions. Results not only reproduce the measured temperature and salinity faithfully but also discern the water masses of similar T and S according to their source water mixing. Extending OMP analysis to a whole water column obviously requires more parameters because more source waters are involved in the water mass formation. Original OMP routine utilized dissolved oxygen and nutrients. However, they seem to be perturbed too much by biological activities in the case of shallow waters. We discussed the use of other potential parameters. Also the benefit of parameter substitution is briefly introduced for the future OMP application on shallow waters.
PURPOSES : In this study blast furnace slag, an industrial byproduct, was used with an activating chemicals, $Ca(OH)_2$ and $Na_2SiO_3$ for carbon capture and sequestration as well as strength development. METHODS : This paper presents the optimized mixing design of Carbon-Capturing and Sequestering Activated Blast-Furnace Slag Mortar. Design of experiments in order to the optimized mixing design was applied and commercial program (MINITAB) was used. Statistical analysis was used to Box-Behnken (B-B) method in response surface analysis. RESULTS : The influencing factors of experimental are water ratio, Chemical admixture ratio and Curing temperature. In the results of response surface analysis, to obtain goal performance, the optimized mixing design for Carbon-Capturing and Sequestering Activated Blast-Furnace Slag Mortar were water ratio 40%, Chemical admixture ratio 58.78% and Curing temperature of $60^{\circ}C$. CONCLUSIONS : Compared with previous studies of this experiment is to some extent the optimal combination is expected to be reliable.
One of the problems with the Boiling Water Reactor involves the flow and thermal mixings in the suppression water pool high pressure steam discharge into the pool in case of emergency core relief. Varioos heat sensitive devices and pumps for the reactor core cooling are installed in the middle of the suppression pool. Especially the pumps utilize pool water in order to cool the reactor core in emergency cases. In this case, the water temperature for the reactor cool ins should be below a certain temperature specified by the reactor design. In the present investigation, in other to determine the optimum locations of these pumping devices, numerical solutions have been obtained for the model to determine the f low mixing characteristics. Experimental investigations have also been carried out for the flow mixing and for the thermal mixing in the pool during the discharge. Considering that the discharge steam through the Quenching Device becomes hot water immediately in the water pool, the steam- equivalent hot water has been utilized. Examining these characteristices, it becomes possible to deform me the best locations for RCIC, LPCI , HPCI pumps in the suppression water pool for the emermency reactor core cooling.
