Under typical operating conditions, flows in microfluidic devices are laminar and molecular diffusion across the channels is slow, which makes an efficient mixing in microfluidic devices difficult to achieve. The mechanism to achieve effective mixing in laminar flows is that of repetitive stretching and folding. Essential is to generate spatially periodic flows with crossing cross sectional streamlines. A mapping method is employed to analyze mixing in micromixers, enabling us to investigate the progress of mixing both qualitatively and quantitatively. The progress of mixing is characterized by a measure of mixing, called the discrete intensity of segregation. The mapping method is applied to mixing in such micromixers as the staggered herringbone mixer, the barrier embedded micromixer, and the three-dimensional serpentine channel to demonstrate the capability of the numerical scheme to tackle general mixing problems in microfluidic devices.

Fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) has been successfully used to enhance the flexural toughness of concrete. As fibers are randomly oriented in FRC, they sometimes produce clumps that reduce the mechanical performance, and a properly chosen mixing protocol can be a way to minimize this problem. In this research, the effects of mixing method on the mechanical properties of FRC were investigated. The compressive strength, flexural strength, and flexural toughness were measured using three different mixing methods. It was shown from the results that the compressive strength and peak flexural load were not affected by changes in mixing method. However, in terms of flexural toughness, the changes in mixing method clearly affected the flexural toughness of FRC. The truck-mixed FRC outperformed two pan-mixed FRCs.

Deep mixing method has been used for ground improvement and foundation system for embankment, port and harbor foundations, retaining wall, and liquefaction mitigations. It has attractive benefits because it is not only improved strength of soft ground but superior for prevention of settlement. However, the quality controls of improved mass affect to the efficiency of the deep mixing method is not properly established. These effects vary depending upon the construction environments and conditions of agitation in consideration of an agitator. The strength and shape of the improved column are not unique and these are affected by mechanical properties of agitators. In this study, in order to investigate the efficiency of deep mixing method for ground improvement on a soft clay ground, experimental studies are performed considering mechanical properties of agitator; the location of exit-hole of admixtures, an angle of mixing wing and a speed of revolution. The experiments are conducted with the simulated apparatus for deep mixing plant that reduced the scale in 1:8 of the real plant. According to the results, the diameter and shape of improved column mass vary depending on the mechanical properties and operating conditions of agitator. Its quality is better when the exit-hole of admixtures is located in the mixing wing, when an angle of mixing wing is large, and when the speed of revolution is rapid.

Of the 17,106 domestic reservoirs(as of December 2020), 14,611 are older than 50 years, and these old reservoirs will gradually increase over time. The injection grouting method is most applied to the reinforcement method of the aging reservoir. However, the injection grouting method is not accurate in uniformity and reinforced area. An laboratory model test was conducted to evaluate the applicability of the deep mixing method, which compensated for these shortcomings, as a reservoir reinforcement method. As a result of calculating the hydraulic conductiveity for each method through the model test results, the injection grouting method was calculated as a hydraulic conductiveity value that was about 7.5 times larger than that of the deep mixing method. As a result of measuring the water level change in the laboratory model test, it was found that the water level change decreased in the injection method and deep mixing method compared to the non-reinforcement method. In addition, deep mixing method showed a water level change of about 15% based on 40 hours compared to the injection method, indicating that the water-reducing effect was superior to that of the injection method.

In the study of permanent waving method after mixing ample and permanent wave solvent in permanent wave the dyed humans hair are as follows; First, Permanent waving method after mixing ample and permanent wave solvent is that the better effective way in permanent wave the dyed humans hair because permanent waving cycle is constant and hair cuticle is glossy. Second, This study is not interpret in permanent wave dyed humans hair that tensile strength is effect of permanent waving method after mixing ample and permanent wave solvent. A extension degree is effect of permanent waving method after mixing ample and permanent wave solvent use indifferent ample treatment method. Third, Hair cuticle damages are a little permanent waving method after mixing ample and permanent wave solvent in permanent wave dyed humans hair.
We numerically analyzed flow characteristics of the polymer melt in the screw equipment using a proper modeling and investigated design parameters which have influence on the mixing performance as the capability of the screw equipment. We considered the non-Newtonian and non-isothermal flow in a single rotor equipment to investigate the mixing performance with respect to screw dimensions as shape parameter of the single rotor equipment and screw speed as process parameter. We used Bird-Carreau-Yasuda model as a viscous model of the polymer melt and the particle tracking method to investigate the mixing performance in the screw equipment and considered four mixing performance indexes: residence time distribution, deformation rate, total strain and particle standard deviation as a new mixing performance index. We compared these indexes to determine design parameters and object function. On basis of the analysis results, we carried out the optimal design by using the response surface method and design of experiments. In conclusion, the differences of results between the optimal value and numerical analysis are about 5.0%.
The mixing method of water and chemicals is significant in a small-scale water supply system because drinking water should be supplied with a certain quantity of remaining chemicals maintained. In the present study, the concentration distribution and the mixing index were obtained from four models, which were to find out the optimal mixing method of water and chemicals. The two models brought the good mixing effects out of the four, one for providing chemicals from the center of water supply pipe and the other for setting up the semicircle block at the downstream of the chemicals-providing pipe. As a result, the mixing effect was found out to be increased due to the diffusion and the disturbance of flows. In conclusion, these results are expected to contribute to designing the optimal mixing system.

In this work, Scalar Passive code in Lattice Boltzmann Method is employed to simulate two-phase flow of low Reynolds number in a micro-channel. The mixing characteristics in a micro-channel is a function of Peclet number. The mixing length increases with the Peclet number. It is found that with the inclusion of static elements at the channel, rapid mixing of two liquids can be achieved, as shown by the results of computer simulations. The enhancement in mixing performance is thought to be caused by the generation of eddies and by lateral velocity component when the mixture flows past static elements. The results indicate that the size of static element has more effect on the mixing than the number of static element.

In this paper, we propose a fast video mixing method for reducing the computational complexity in the MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) used in the video conferencing. The conventional mixing method is based on the pixeldomain transcoder, of which computational complexity is linearly increased as the number of participants is increased. Basically the method requires N decoders and one huge encoder to mix the bitstreams from the N participants. To reduce the computational complexity, we propose a hybrid mixing method based on the bitstreamdomain and pixel-domain transcoding methods. The proposed method reduces the computational complexity about 45% at the improved quality, compared with the conventional mixing method based on the pixel-domain transcoders.

A material mixing method to obtain an optimal topology for a structure in a thermal environment was suggested. This method is based on Evolutionary Structural Optimization(ESO). The proposed material mixing method extends the ESO method to a mixing several materials for a structure in the multicriteria optimization of thermal flux and thermal stress. To do this, the multiobjective optimization technique was implemented. The overall efficiency of material usage was measured in terms of the combination of thermal stress levels and heat flux densities by using a combination strategy with weighting factors. Also, a smoothing scheme was implemented to suppress the checkerboard pattern in the procedure of topology optimization. It is concluded that ESO method with a smoothing scheme is effectively applied to topology optimization. Optimal topologies having multiple thermal criteria for a printed circuit board(PCB) substrate were presented to illustrate validity of the suggested material mixing method. It was found that the suggested method works very well for the multicriteria topology optimization.
