혼합모드 하중에서의 STS304의 피로균열 전과거동 (Fatigue Crack Propagation Behavior in STS304 under Mixed Mode Loading)

  • The use of fracture mechanics has traditionally concentrated on crack growth under an opening mechanism. However, many service failure occur from cracks subjected to mixed mode loadings. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the fatigue behavior under mixed mode loading. Under mixed mode loading conditions, not only the fatigue crack propagation rate is of importance, but also the crack propagation direction. The mode I and II stress intensity factors of CTS specimen were calculated using elastic finite element method. The propagation behavior of the fatigue crack of the STS304 steeds under mixed mode loading condition was evacuated by using stress intensity factors $K_I$ and $K_II. The MTS criterion and effective stress intensity factor were applied to predict the crack propagation direction and the fatigue crack propagation rate.

이종접합재의 계면균열에 대한 진전경로의 예측 (Prediction of Propagation Path for the Interface Crack in Bonded Dissimilar Materials)

  • Applications of bonded dissimilar materials such as metal/ceramics and resin/metal joints, are very increasing in various industry fields. It is required to find crack propagation direction and path applying to the fracture mechanics on the bonded joint of dissimilar meterials. In this paper, crack propagation direction and path were simulated numerically by using boundary element method. Crack propagation angle is able to easily determine based on the maximum stress concept. Fracture tests of Al/Epoxy dissimilar materials with an interface crack are carried out under various mixed mode conditions by using the specimens of bonded scarf joints. It is found that the experimental results are well coincide with the analysis results of boundary element method.

  • Recently, many studies focus on mixed-mode fatigue-fracture characteristics of characteristics of materials. In order to reveal crack initiation and propagation mechanisms in combined -mode fatigue. This paper investigates the initiation and propagation behavior of the fatigue crack of the STS304 specimens under mixed mode loading conditions. moreover crack arrest and branch phenomena were analyzed with respect to the change do the angle of inclined loading. The relationship between the angle of inclined loading and the angle of branched crack was studied. A greate number of cycles are necessary to initiate a new crack from the initial crack. The direction of the new crack propagation is determined by MTS theory.

Effects of temperature dependent material properties on mixed mode crack tip parameters of functionally graded materials

  • Effects of temperature dependent material properties on mixed mode fracture parameters of functionally graded materials subjected to thermal loading are investigated. A domain form of the $J_k$-integral method including temperature-dependent material properties and its numerical implementation using finite element analysis is presented. Temperature and displacement fields are calculated using finite element analysis and are used to compute mixed mode stress intensity factors using the $J_k$-integral. Numerical results indicate that temperature-dependency of material properties has considerable effect on the mixed-mode stress intensity factors of cracked functionally graded structures.

  • The mechanical properties of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites fabricated by RBAO(reaction bonded aluminium oxide) process were investigated. As the amount of ZrO2 increased the sinstered density of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites decreased slightly, but wear resistance was enhanced. Bending strength of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites increased in proportion to the amount of al in case of a fixed ZrO2 content. When the amount of Al was fixed bending strength reached its maximum value at 25 wt% ZrO2. The fracture toughness(K1c) increased with increasing content of ZrO2, but decreased with increasing Al amount. On the other hand, the fracture mode of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites was the mixed mode of inter-and transgranular fracture.

단일시편방법의 CLS 시편 적용시 적층성이 미치는 영향 (Effects of Stacking Sequence on the Application of the Single Specimen Technique to CLS Specimen)

  • The work factor approach, so-called single specimen technique could be used to determine energy release rate from a single test record for unidirectional CLS specimen. In the present study, the work factor approach was extended to determine the mixed-mode fracture toughness of multi-directional graphite/epoxy laminated composites. Multi-directional CLS specimens were used for fracture tests. The stacking sequences used for the lap and the strap were $[90_2/0_2]_s/[0_4/90_4]_s$ and $[0/\pm45/0]_s/[0_2/\pm45_2/0_2]_2$, respectively. For both cases, the fracture toughness determined from the work factor approach was compared with that determined from the compliance method. It was found that both methods produced fracture toughness within a maximum 15% difference for each stacking sequence. The fractography analysis also showed that the fiber bridging occurred for$[0/\pm45/0]_s/[0_2/\pm45_2/0_2]_2$ case while it did not occur for $[90_2/0_2]_s/[0_4/90_4]_s$ case.

  • 花崗巖 Beam 試料에 대하여 4-Point Bending 試驗이 진행되는 동안 試料 破壤에 隋伴된 AE 信號를 Calibrated PZT Transducer와 6-Channel Recording System으로 기록하여 分析함으로서 微細 龜裂源의 特性과 機構를 糾明하였다. 微細 龜裂의 體積은 수 um3에서 150.000um3의 넓은 범위를 보였으며, 引張形 龜裂이 斷形에 비하여 大體的으로 큰 것으로 밝혀 졌다. 龜裂源에서의 强度는 Mode I 荷重 下에서 기록된 것이 Mixed Mode 試驗에서 얻어진 것보다 그 平均値가 약 3배 정도 크게 나타났으나, 전체 AE 數에 있어어는 反對로 Mixed Mode 試驗에서 기록된 것의 약 25% 밖에 되지 않아서 같은 크기의 破壤面을 形成하는데 必要한 에너지 要求量이 일정함을 暗示하였다. 미세 龜裂面의 方位는 垂直 및 水平에 近接한 傾斜를 가지며 走向은 최종 試料의 破壤面과 일치할 뿐만 아니라 龜裂源이 시료 破壤面에 집중되게 分布하여서 微細 龜裂이 試料龜裂을 야기시키는 原因임을 알 수 있었다. 또한, Mode I 荷重 下에서는 引張形의 微細龜裂이 압도적으로 優勢하였고, Mixed Mode 荷重 下에서는 引張과 斷形의 微細龜裂이 약 3,6:1 比率로 分布하여서 荷重 條件이 微細 龜裂의 機構와 密接한 關係가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • Most cracks in the structure occur under mixed mode loadings and those propagation depend on the stress ratio very much. So, it is necessary to study the fatigue behavior under mixed mode loading as stress ratio changes. In this paper, fatigue crack propagation behavior was investigated respectively at stress ratio 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and we change loading application angle to $0^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;60^{\circ}$ to apply various loading. mode. The mode I and II stress intensity factors of CTS specimen used in this study were calculated by displacement extrapolation method using FEM(ABAQUS). Using both the study through the experiment and the theoretical study through FEM analysis, we studied the relation between crack propagation rate and stress intensity factor range at each loading mode due to the variation of stress ratio. Also, when the crack propagated under given stress condition and given loading mode condition, we studied what the dominant factors of the crack propagation rate were at each case.

소형펀치시험을 이용한 자동차용 고강도강 수소취성 평가 (Evaluation of Hydrogen Embrittlement of High Strength Steel for Automobiles by Small Punch Test)

  • The hydrogen embrittlement of high strength steel for automobiles was evaluated by small punch (SP) test. The test specimens were fabricated to be 5 series, having various chemical compositions according to the processes of heat treatment and working. Hydrogen charging was electrochemically conducted for each specimen with varying of current density and charging time. It was shown that the SP energy and the maximum load decreased with increasing hydrogen charging time in every specimen. SEM investigation results for the hydrogen containing samples showed that the fracture behavior was a mixed fracture mode having 50% dimples and 50% cleavages. However, the fracture mode of specimens with charging hydrogen changed gradually to the brittle fracture mode, compared to the mode of other materials. All sizes and numbers of dimples decreased with increasing hydrogen charging time. These results indicate that hydrogen embrittlement is the major cause of fracture for high strength steels for automobiles; also, it is shown that the small punch test is a valuable test method for hydrogen embrittlement of high strength sheet steels for automobiles.

  • 본 연구에서는 혼합 모우드 균열문제의 연구를 위하여 .KAPPA.$_{II}$ /.KAPPA.S1I\ulcorner조절이 간편하고, 균열진전경로가 하중방향에 따른 균일전면의 자유표면의 영향을 균일하게 한 시험편(이하 RCM 또는 round compact mixed-mode 시험편이라 한다)을 고안하여 균열길이 및 하중작용 방향에 따른 .KAPPA.$_{I}$ 및 .KAPPA.S1II를 수치해석한 다음 일반화 하였다. 또 고강도와 용접성이 요구되는 항공기부품, 압력용기, 지상운송차량 등에 사용되고 있는 5083-H115 알루미늄 합금에 대해 혼합 모우드 균열진전 방향 및 피로균열 진전특성을 분석하고자 한다.다.
