Evaluation of Common Activity and Life in Swedish Cohousing Units

  • This study evaluates common activity and quality of life in Swedish cohousing units to examine whether Swedish cohousing functions properly or not. A questionnaire survey was fulfilled during the autumn of 2010 in G$\ddot{o}$teborg Sweden. The subjects of study were 12 of 44 cohousing units in Sweden that included 4 of the +40 cohousing and 8 of the mixed-age cohousing. A total of 242 of 353 distributed questionnaires were collected (68.6%) and analyzed by SPSS statistical program. The findings are as follow: 1) General characteristics of the respondents are that they are mostly healthy, evenly aged from age 50s to 70s and highly educated with significant proportions of academics and civil workers. There are more females than males and more singles than cohabitants. 2) The most frequent and preferred common activity is a common meal followed by a coffee meeting. A common dinner, the 'hub of living together' is held almost every day or at least a few times a week. A common meal is considered one of the most important activities because of practical and social advantages in that residents can save time and cooking costs as well as engage in social contact. Referring to evaluation of frequency and content of common activity, more than a half of the respondents prefer the current situation. 3) All of the variables (except health conditions and education level) affect participation in common activity with statistical significance. 4) Most of the respondents indicate a high level of life satisfaction and are willing to recommend others move to cohousing. They agree that there is more mutual support among residents in cohousing units than in a conventional community. In conclusion, Swedish cohousing units function successfully as they have pursued intentional community ideology and most of the residents are proud of their current living situations.

토양중 퇴비종류 및 처리조건별 아황산가스 발생 (Emission of Sulphur Dioxide Gas from Soils under Plastic Film House, Condition)

  • 일반토양과 시설재배지 토양을 공시하여 1l 광구병에 토양 600g씩 충진하고 토양 1kg당 양송이퇴비, 계분퇴비, 돈분퇴비, 어분퇴비를 각각 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50g상당량을 시용하였다, 온도를 10, 20, 30, $40^{\circ}C$로 조절하고 중류수를 토양 1kg당 50, 100, 200, 300ml 첨가하여 각 처리별 아황산가스 발생량을 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 아황산가스 발생량은 황함량이 적은 양송이퇴비, 계분퇴비 및 돈분퇴비에서는 적었으나 황함량이 많은 어분퇴비 처리구에서는 10g/kg처리에서 부터 매우 큰 차이로 증가 되었다. 어분퇴비처리구는 10g이하에서도 시 용량증가에 따라서 아황산가스 발생량이 현저히 증가되었고, 황함량이 적은 일반토양보다 황 함량이 많은 시설재배지 토양에서 가스발생량이 높았다. 아황산가스 발생량은 온도가 높을수록 증가되었으며, 수분 처리별로는 150ml 첨가구에서 가장 많이 발생되었다.

맥섬석 혼합 건조혈분 급여가 육계의 생산성과 육질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of a Diet Supplemented with Dried Animal Blood and Macsumsuk Mixture on the Growth Performance and Meat Quality Parameters of Broiler Chickens)

  • 본 시험은 가축혈액과 맥섬석을 7:3 중량비율로 잘 혼합하여 $200^{\circ}C$에서 초고온 순간 분무방식으로 건조된 혈분을 육계사료에 첨가 급여하여 생산성과 육질에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 육계(브로일러)병아리 600수(4처리 ${\times}$ 50수씩 ${\times}$ 3반복) 구분 배치(대조구; 건조혈분 무첨가; T1구, 건조혈분 0.5% 첨가; T2구, 건조혈분 1.0% 첨가; T3구, 건조혈분 3.0% 첨가)한 후 35일간 사양시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 사료섭취량과 사료요구율은 대조구가 높은 경향이었고, 도체중은 T2구(1,749 g), T3구(1,739 g), T1구(1,621 g)가 대조구(1,448.5 g)보다 유의적으로 높았고(p<0.001), 도체율은 T3구(83.26%)가 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.001). 계육의 육질분석에서 조지방은 T2구(1.14%)가 높았고(p<0.001), 보수력은 T1구(62.27%)와 T2구(63.80%)가 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.001). 또한 육색에서 L값(명도)은 처리구(53.98~55.48)가 대조구(45.81)보다 크게 높았다(p<0.01). 또한 가슴과 다리육의 콜레스테롤 함량은 39.28~50.44 mg/100 g 범위에 있었고, 대부분 처리구가 39.28~47.34 mg/100 g 범위로서 대조구(50.44 mg/100g)보다 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다(p<0.001) 계육의 지방산 조성은 oleic acid가 가장 많았고, 그 다음으로 palmitic acid, linoleic acid, stearic acid 순으로 낮아졌다. 또한 불포화지방산(UFA) 및 단가불포화지방산(MUFA) 및 UFA/SFA 비율은 T1구가 각각 69.35%, 52.00% 및 2.26%로 다른 처리구보다 크게 높았다(p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). 아미노산 함량에서는 cystine, methionine 함량이 처리구(0.43~0.57%)가 대조구(0.38~0.46%)보다 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해 보면, 가축혈액과 맥섬석을 7:3 비율로 혼합하여 제조한 혈분을 육계사료에 0.5~1.0% 정도 첨가급여하면 증체량, 사료효율 및 계육의 육질이 개선될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다.

  • 우리나라 장수자(長壽者)의 생활(生活) 및 의식조사(意識調査)에 관한 연구(硏究) 일환(一環)으로, 우리나라 장수자(長壽者)의 과거(過去) 식생활(食生活)에 대해서 조사(調査), 비교(比較)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 장수자(長壽者)의 $40{\sim}60$세경의 주식(主食)에 대한 기호도(嗜好度)를 비교하여 보면 ${\ulcorner}$보리 섞인 밥${\lrcorner}$이 49.9%로 가장 높고 그 다음이 ${\ulcorner}$쌀 밥${\lrcorner}$(47.0%)이었다. 남녀별(男女別)로 보면 남자(男子)는 ${\ulcorner}$보리 섞인 밥${\lrcorner}$(56.2%)을 ${\ulcorner}$쌀밥${\lrcorner}$(41.3%)보다 좋아한 반면 여자(女子)는 이와 반대로 ${\ulcorner}$쌀 밥${\lrcorner}$(49.6%)을 ${\ulcorner}$보리 섞인 밥${\lrcorner}$(46.9%)보다 약간 더 좋아하는 경향이었다. 2. 장수자(長壽者)의 $40{\sim}60$세경의 음식 맛의 기호도(嗜好度)는 ${\ulcorner}$심심한 것${\lrcorner}$${\ulcorner}$담백한 것${\lrcorner}$이 각각 40.6%로서 가장 높았으며, 일반적으로 장수자들은 ${\ulcorner}$짠 것${\lrcorner}$(24.5%)보다는 ${\ulcorner}$심심한 것${\lrcorner}$(40.6%)을, 또 ${\ulcorner}$기름기가 많은 것${\lrcorner}$(9.8%)보다는 ${\ulcorner}$담백한 것${\lrcorner}$(40.6%)을 더 좋아했음을 알 수 있었다. 3. 장수자(長壽者)의 $40{\sim}60$세경의 동물성단백질(動物性蛋白質)(육류(肉類)및 어류(魚類)의 섭취상태는 ${\ulcorner}$때때로${\lrcorner}$섭취하는 경우가 55.4%로 가장 높았으며, 그 다음 ${\ulcorner}$거의 매일 먹는다${\lrcorner}$(31.9%)의 순이었다. 따라서 장수자의 대부분(87.3%)이 매일 또는 때때로 동물성 단백질을 섭취하고 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 4. 장수자(長壽者)의 과거(過去)와 현재(現在)의 중요 식품(食品)의 섭취상태(攝取狀態)를 주(週) $4{\sim}6$회(回)이상 섭취(攝取)로 비교(比較)하여 보면 육류(肉類), 어류(魚類), 난류(卵類) 및 두유제품(豆類製品)은 50.4%, 67.5%, 우유(牛乳) 및 유제품(乳製品)은 26.6%, 51.5%, 야채류(野菜類)는89.9%, 81.0%, 지방질(脂肪質) 식품(食品)은 58.9%, 64.0%, 해초류(海醮類)는 57.0%, 62.9%를 각각 섭취하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of Urea-Molasses Cake Supplementation of Swamp Buffaloes Fed Rice Straw or Grasses on Rumen Environment, Feed Degradation and Intake

  • Two experiments were carried out concerning the effects of urea-molasses cake (UMC) and its separate components as supplements on rumen environment, in sacco feed degradability and intake of swamp buffaloes fed rice straw, grasses or a mixture of grasses and rice straw. Experiment 1 was a change-over design with 4 animals and 6 treatments. The buffaloes were fed rice straw ad libitum, and the experimental treatments were: no supplementation (R); 700 g of the complete urea-molasses cake (RUMC); 53.2 g urea (RU); 276 g rice bran and 52.5 coconut meal (RRC); 26.6 g salt, 26.6 g bone meal and 2.1 g trace minerals (RMi); and 25 g molasses (RMo). Experiment 2 was a Latin square design with four diets and four animals. The treatments were: rice straw ad libitum and mixed grass (RG) at 2.5 g dry matter per kg live weight (LW); RG plus 700 g urea-molasses cake (RGUMC); mixed grass ad libitum (G); and G plus 700 g cake (GUMC). In both experiments the supplements were fed once daily. In Exp. 1 although the rumen pH was significantly different (p<0.05) among diets, it varied only from 6.90 to 7.06. The ruminal ammonia was also significantly (p<0.05) different among the diets with RUMC significantly higher than R. Total bacterial and protozoal counts were significantly (p<0.05) higher for the RUMC, RU, RMo and RRC diets. Total feed and rice straw intakes were highest for RUMC (p<0.05) and lowest for the RMi and RMo diets, but in sacco degradability of four different roughages were not significantly different among diets. In Exp. 2, rumen pHs of the diets differed significantly and (p<0.01) ranged from 7.04 - 7.19. Ruminal $NH_3-N$ concentrations (mg/100 ml) were also significantly different (p<0.05), and higher for the RGUMC, G and GUMC diets. The total counts of bacteria and protozoa were significantly (p<0.05) higher for the RGUMC, G and GUMC diets. The total feed intake and roughage intake were significantly (p<0.05) higher for the RGUMC, G and GUMC diets compared to the RG diet. Correspondingly, LW changes also differed among treatments (p=0.06). It was concluded that there were significant increases in rumen $NH_3-N$ concentration, microbial populations and feed intake in the buffaloes by UMC supplementation, whereas the significant difference in in sacco DM degradation was not found by any type of supplementation. There seemed to be a need of a combination of urea, molasses, minerals and other protein nitrogen sources to enhance rice straw intake. Adding grass to the rice straw diet at 0.25% LW (DM) should also be considered to maintain buffalo rumen function and production with UMC supplementation, when rice straw is the main roughage.

Comparison of Oven-drying Methods for Determination of Moisture Content in Feed Ingredients

  • An accurate assessment of moisture content in feed ingredients is important because moisture influences the nutritional evaluation of feedstuffs. The objective of this study was to evaluate various methods for moisture content determination. In Exp. 1, the weight loss on drying (LOD) of corn, soybean meal (SBM), distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), whey permeate, whey powder, spray-dried porcine plasma (SDPP), fish meal, and a mixed diet of these 7 ingredients were measured by oven drying at $135^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Additionally, the samples were dried at $105^{\circ}C$ for 3, 6, 9, 12, or 15 h. The LOD contents of the DDGS, whey permeate, and whey powder measured by drying at $135^{\circ}C$ for 2 h were greater than the values measured by drying at $105^{\circ}C$ for 3 h (p<0.05). All samples except SDPP (p = 0.70) dried at $105^{\circ}C$ for 6, 9, 12, or 15 h caused more LOD compared with the samples dried for at $105^{\circ}C$ for 3 h (p<0.05). The LOD contents of the individual ingredients were additive when dried at $105^{\circ}C$ regardless of drying time. In Exp. 2, moisture contents of corn, SBM, wheat, whey permeate, whey powder, lactose, and 2 sources of DDGS (DDGS1 and DDGS2) were measured by the Karl Fischer method, oven drying at $135^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, and oven drying at $125^{\circ}C$, $115^{\circ}C$, $105^{\circ}C$, or $95^{\circ}C$ for increasing drying time from 1 to 24 h. Drying samples at $135^{\circ}C$ for 2 h resulted in higher moisture content in whey permeate (7.5% vs 3.0%), whey powder (7.7% vs 3.8%), DDGS1 (11.4% vs 7.5%), and DDGS2 (13.1% vs 8.8%) compared with the Karl Fischer method (p<0.05). Whey permeate and whey powder were considerably darkened as the drying time increased. In conclusion, drying samples at $135^{\circ}C$ for 2 h is not appropriate for determining the moisture content in whey permeate, whey powder, or DDGS as well as the mixed diet containing these ingredients. The oven-drying method at $105^{\circ}C$ for 5 to 6 h appears to be appropriate for whey permeate and whey powder, and at $105^{\circ}C$ for 2 to 3 h for DDGS.

과열증기를 이용한 무우절임 제품의 제조공정 설정 및 품질 개선효과 (Effect of manufacturing process using superheated steam on the quality improvement of pickled radish product)

  • 본 연구는 과열증기(superheated steam, SHS) 기술을 이용하여 높은 품질의 편의식 식자재로서의 무를 제조하고, 제조한 무의 저장 중 품질변화를 알아보기 위해 수행하였다. 적당히 자른 무를 1차 과열증기(오븐온도 $250^{\circ}C$, 증기온도 $370^{\circ}C$)에서 각각 0, 3, 5 및 7 분간 처리한 후, $80^{\circ}C$에서 6 시간동안 완전히 건조 하였다. 본 연구 결과, 혼합용액(음용수:설탕:식초:소금=2:1:0.8:0.1)에서 복원한 무가 음용수만으로 복원한 무에 비해 좀 더 단단하였다. 5, 10 및 $15^{\circ}C$에서 56일간 저장한 모든 무를 품질변화를 측정하였다. 물로 복원하고 $15^{\circ}C$에 저장한 대조구 무는 저장 7일만에 부패하였다. 실험구 무는 저장 1일을 제외하고, 수분 함량에 변화가 없었다. 저장기간이 증가함에 따라 무의 단단한 조직감이 감소하였다. 혼합용액으로 복원한 무는 낮은 pH로 인해 미생물 성장이 억제되었다. 따라서 SHS의 사용과 혼합용액을 이용한 복원은 손쉽게 무 제품을 개발할 수 있었다.

Use of Awamori-pressed Lees and Tofu Lees as Feed Ingredients for Growing Female Goats

  • Okinawan Awamori is produced by fermenting steamed indica rice with black mold, yeast, and water. Awamori-pressed lees is a by-product of the Awamori production process. Tofu lees is a by-product of the Tofu production process. This research consisted of two experiments conducted to elucidate whether or not dried Awamori-pressed lees and Tofu lees can be used as a mixed feed ingredient for raising female goats. In experiment 1, digestion trials were conducted to ascertain the nutritive values of dried Awamori-pressed lees and dried Tofu lees for goats. The digestible crude protein (DCP) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) contents of dried Awamori-pressed lees and Tofu lees were 22.5%, 22.5% (DCP), and 87.2%, 94.4% (TDN) respectively. In experiment 2, 18 female goats (Japanese Saanen${\times}$Nubian, three months old, body weight $15.4{\pm}0.53$ kg) were divided into three groups of six animals (control feed group (CFG), Awamori-pressed lees mixed feed group (AMFG), Tofu lees mixed feed group (TMFG)). The CFG control used feed containing 20% soybean meal as the main protein source, while the AMFG and TMFG treatments used feed mixed with 20% dried Awamori-pressed lees or dried Tofu lees. The groups were fed mixed feed (volume to provide 100 g/d increase in body weight) twice a day (10:00, 16:00). The klein grass hay and water was given ad libitum. The hay intake was measured at 08:00 and 16:00. Body weight and size measurements were taken once a month. At the end of the experiment, a blood sample was drawn from the jugular vein of each animal. The DCP and TDN intakes in AMFG and TMFG showed no significant difference to the CFG. Cumulative measurements of growth in body weight, withers height, chest depth, chest girth, and hip width over the 10 mo period in the AMFG and TMFG were similar to the CFG. By contrast, cumulative growth in body length and hip height in the AMFG and TMFG tended to be larger than the CFG. Cumulative growth in chest width in the AMFG was significantly larger (p<0.05) than the CFG. Blood parameter values were similar to those in normal goats reported by other scientists. The coats of the AMFG and TMFG animals looked shinier than the animals in the CFG. The results demonstrate that dried Awamori-pressed lees and Tofu lees can be used as a feed ingredient for the raising female goats.

  • Awamori is produced by fermenting steamed indica rice. Awamori-pressed lees is a by-product of the Awamori production process. Tofu lees is a by-product of the Tofu production process. Research was conducted to test if dried Awamori-pressed lees and Tofu lees can be used as a mixed feed ingredient for raising male goats. Eighteen male kids were divided into three groups of six animals (control feed group (CFG), Awamori-pressed lees mixed feed group (AMFG), Tofu lees mixed feed group (TMFG)). The CFG used feed containing 20% soybean meal as the main protein source, while the AMFG and TMFG used feed mixed with 20% dried Awamori-pressed lees or dried Tofu lees. The groups were fed mixed feed (volume to provide 100 g/d increase in body weight) and alfalfa hay cubes (2.0 kg/d) twice a day (10:00, 16:00). Klein grass hay and water was given ad libitum. Hay intake was measured at 10:00 and 16:00. Body weight and size measurements were taken once a month. At the end of the experiment, a blood sample was drawn from the jugular vein of each animal and the carcass characteristics, the physical and chemical characteristics of loin were analyzed. DCP and TDN intakes in AMFG and TMFG showed no significant difference to the CFG. Cumulative measurements of growth in body weight and size over the 10 mo period in the AMFG and TMFG were similar to the CFG. Blood parameter values were similar to those in normal goats. Dressing carcass weight and percentages, and total weight of meat in the AMFG were similar to that in the CFG, but smaller in the TMFG. The compressed meat juice ratio was higher in both the TMFG and AMFG than the CFG. While the fat in corn, Awamori-pressed lees, and Tofu lees contains more than 50% linoleic acid, the loin fat in both the AMFG and TMFG was very low in linoleic acid due to the increase in the content of oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid. This indicates that feeding on AMF and TMF does not inhibit hydrogenation by ruminal microorganisms. As in the CFG, the total essential and non-essential amino acids in the loin of the AMFG and TMFG were well balanced. Compared to the CFG, the AMFG and TMFG were high in taurine and carnosine. The results indicate dried Awamori-pressed lees and Tofu lees can be used as a feed ingredient for raising male goats.

국민학교(國民學校) 아동(兒童)의 영양섭취실태(營養攝取實態)와 성장발육(成長發育)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study in Every Possible Correlation between Daily Food Intake and Growth Rate of Primary School Students)

  • With the object of the study id every possible correlation between daily food intake and growth rate of primary school students, aged eleven years old, the author distributed prepared questionnaires through 200 children of 5th grade in both sexes in K private primary school, Seoul. Specific object of this study were included following three points: such as daily food intake records for six days. daily food intake records for six days. school records of sample children at the end of 4th grade. physical growth index calculated by means of weight and height of sample children at the first part of the 5th grade. CR. t. F. test as well as percentage calculations were included for statistical analysis. The result of this study were as follows: 1. For the living circumstances a) Average numbers of brother and sister in sampled family were two to three. b) Approximately 50%of the children were brought up by mother's milk at their infants and about 35% of children were weaned at the age of 7 to 12 months. c) Thirty to forty percent of the respondents revealed irregulity in their meal time due to early school time in the morning. d) Monthly average expenditure for daily food reached 20 to 29% out of total income. e) The most favorit foods reflect as follows: The most favorit main dish is boiled rice mixed with other careals and side dish beaf. Fruits and juice are more popular snack among whole children. 2. Nutrition survey a) The calcium and thiamine were the most limited factors out of daily nutrients consumption. b) The total calory intake were composed of carbohydrate 63%, protein 16% and fat 21% respectively. c) The total food intake were composed of 20 to 24% of animal source of foods and 76 to 80% of plant source of foods (vegetables, grains, fruits) d) The total protein intake were composed of 46% of animal protein and 54% of others. e) The grain stuffs consumed in the largest quantity at the level of 50% out whole food groups. f) Twenty four percent of total food intake came from snack between meal time. 3. The result of statistical analysis were as follows: a) The correlation between the calory intake and plysical growth index revealed statistical significancy at the level of p<0.001. b) The correlation between the protein intake and physical growth index revealed statistical significancy at the level of p<0.001. c) The correlation between the meal time and physical growth index revealed statistical significancy at the level of 0.02
