  • In this study, the performance prediction programs for centrifugal pumps are developed. To estimate the losses in the centrifugal pump impellers, a two-zone model and TEIS(two elements in series) model are applied to the program. The basic concept of a two zone model considers the primary zone that is an isentropic core flow and the secondary zone that has a non-isentropic region at the impeller exit. The flow goes through two different zones and is mixed out at the impeller exit and the mixing process occurs with an increase in entropy, a decrease in total pressure. The level of the core flow diffusion in an impeller was calculated using TEIS(two elements in series) model. The effects of various parameters which are used in this program on the prediction of head and efficiency are discussed. The correlation curves used to select the effectiveness of the primitive TEIS model were suggested according to the specific speed of the centrifugal pumps.

  • The objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the mixed flow behaviors and oxygen transfer characteristics of a vertical orifice ejector. The experimental apparatus consisted of an electric motor-pump, an orifice ejector, a circulation water tank, an air compressor, a high speed camera unit and control or measurement accessories. The mass ratio was calculated using the measured primary flow rate and suction air flow rate with experimental parameters. The visualization images of vertically injected mixed jet issuing from the orifice ejector were qualitatively analyzed. The volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient was calculated using the measured dissolved oxygen concentration. At a constant primary flow rate, the mass ratio and oxygen transfer coefficient increase with the air pressure of compressor. At a constant air pressure of the compressor, the mass ratio decreases and the oxygen transfer coefficient increases as the primary flow rate increases. The residence time and dispersion of fine air bubbles and the penetration of mixed flow were found to be important parameters for the oxygen transfer rate owing to the contact area and time of two phases.

  • As one of the useful and powerful methods for designing the optimum pump is using model pump, it is based on the similarity characteristics of turbomachinery. With this theory, we can predict the performance of various pumps. In fact we have performed huge pumps using this, the experimental results were to be sufficient to prove the similarity characteristics. In this study, we predicted the performance of the huge proto-type pump that cannot be installed and made a test. First of all, we had calculated the model ratio between proto-type and model. There were two ways to estimate the performance. One was the application of CFD code, and the other way was model field test. So We selected both of them to guarantee the dependable data and evaluated each other.

  • Mixed Venous oxygenation saturation[SvO2 is a variable determined in part by the externally controlled factors and in part by the patient during CPB. I monitored the SvO2 and tested it as a parameter for the regulation of pump output and as a criteria for the need of inotropics after CPB. With the help of SvO2, I increased the pump flow especially during rewarming for more optimal oxygenation of cells. After CPB, the calculated cardiac index was used as an indicator for the need of inotropic support with greater accuracy and without any clinical problems. I conclude that the SvO2 is an easily checkable variable and a good indicator for optimal oxygenation at cell level, and can be used as an objective criteria for the need of postoperative inotropic support.

  • Coated filters were developed to replace the glass impinger methods that use reagent solutions. The purpose of this study was to simultaneously measure nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) and respirable suspended particles (RSP) by a filtration method with a cyclone connected to a pump. A first pre-filter for RSP and second filter for $NO_2$, which was soaked in a TEA (Triethanolamine) solution, were loaded into a filter cassette with a pump flow rate of 1.7 l/m. After sampling, the TEA soaked filter was removed from the cassette, placed in a large test tube (10 ml), mixed, and allowed time to develop. The absorbance (abs) of the diazo compound of the $NO_2$ and N-(1-Napthylethylenediamine dihydrochloride) in the color reagent was measured at 545 nm on a spectrophotometer. The collection efficiency(%) of $NO_2$ by each 3 filter soaked in TEA solution and used in the cyclone with a pump flow rate 1.7 l/m was $89{\pm}3%$ and the correlation coefficient between the true $NO_2$ concentration and that determined by the TEA soaked filters was 0.993(p<0.001).

  • For the environmental safety of the operating room and patient healthcare, the closed type rebreathing system is widely adopted. In order to reduce the anesthesia gas during surgery, the mixing ratio of anesthesia gas with breathing air should be precisely controlled. Generally, the breathing air passes through the vaporizer to mix the anesthesia gas, but there is a difficulty in controlling the mixing ratio precisely. In this paper, the stand-alone style vaporizer is designed and the operating characteristics are investigated. The vaporizer measures the temperature and pressure in the vaporizing chamber and chamber temperature is precisely controlled by proportional controlled heater. Exact quantity of anesthesia media is feeded by PID controlled peristaltic pump and vaporized gas is mixed with breathing air flow by PWM controlled solenoid valve. The experimental result shows that the vaporizer has an excellent command following performances that it can be applied to the low flow anesthesia system.

  • $MnO_2$, a metal oxide used as an electrode material in electrochemical capacitors (EDLCs), has been applied in binary oxide and conducting polymer hybrid electrodes to increase their stability and capacitance. We developed a method for electrodepositing Mn-Ni oxide/PANI, Mn-Ni oxide/PEDOT, and Mn-Ni-Ru oxide/PEDOT films on carbon paper in a single step using a mixed bath. Mn-Ni oxide/PEDOT and Mn-Ni-Ru oxide/PEDOT electrodes used in an electro-osmotic pump (EOP) have shown better efficiency compared to Mn-Ni oxide and Mn-Ni oxide/PANI electrodes through testing in water as a pumping solution. EOP using a Mn-Ni-Ru oxide/PEDOT electrode was also tested in a 0.5 mM $Li_2SO_4$ solution as a pumping solution to confirm the effect of the $Li^+$ insertion/de-insertion reaction of Ruthenium oxide on the EOP. Experimental results show that the flow rate increases with the increase in current in a 0.5 mM $Li_2SO_4$ solution compared to that obtained when water was used as a pumping solution.

  • The wet shotcrete refers to a method in which all materials are mixed and then supplied to the spraying device, compressed air is added to the nozzle, and the spraying speed is improved to spray on the target surface. In order to reproduce the amount of shotcrete used in the wet method in the field and the situation at the laboratory scale, it is essential to control the discharge amount of the equipment. In this study, in order to increase the reproducibility of field conditions at the laboratory scale, a flow control system for shotcrete mortar spraying equipment was developed and applied to the equipment. To verify the developed equipment, a discharge control test using water and mortar was performed. In the developed control system, the discharge was smoothly controlled according to the user input value for the mono pump, but the discharge was not properly controlled according to the input value for the screw pump because of a reducer. When a speed reducer is attached, it is necessary to adjust the operation rate of the screw pump close to the target flow rate by increasing the operation rate of the screw pump while lowering the operation rate of the mono pump.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest 10 kinds of case and perform Mixed-flow pump optimum design and performance analysis depending on the shape of the impeller for suitable to water jet propulsion system. H20 was applied to the material properties, to analysis conditions for water jet axial impeller 1000 rpm given analysis was performed. Interpretation for each case as a result of speed, pressure, flow rate, calculate the thrust at the Inlet Angle $30^{\circ}$ and Outlet Angle $30^{\circ}$ could see a persistence of optimal performance.
