  • This pot experiment was conducted to find out the optimal fertilization ratio of the anions (N : S : P) in various soil conditions. Soil samples were collected from uncultivated mountains and hills where development for grasslands is under consideration. The optimum ratios were computed by the $Hom{\grave{e}}s$ systematic variation technique. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The optimum fertilization ratios of the anions (N : S : P) for the high yields of grass - clover mixed sward at various areas were obtained (Table 5). 2. The grass yields in mixed sward were increased by the increase of specific soil characteristics, CEC, OM, T-N, avail-$P_2O_5$. However. it was not recognizable by the contents of the cations, the base saturation, and the pH. 3. The relatively high yields of clover were positively related to the Ca and Mg contents in soils, and it was a factor of the increased total yields of mixed sward. 4. The relatively high optimum fertilization ratios of S in volcanic ash soil in the Cheju district and P in sediment lithosol in Daegu should be taken into account in determing the fertilization rate for high yield of clover in mixed sward.

  • Recently, production cost of ready mixed concrete has been increased due to the rising cost of raw materials such as cement and aggregate etc. cause by the upturn of oil price and increase of shipping charge. The delivery cost of ready mixed concrete companies, however, has been decreased owing to their excessive competition in sale. Consequently, ready mixed concrete companies began to manufacture the concrete by mixing ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBF) and fly-ash in order to lower the production cost. Therefore, the objective of this study was to predict 28 days strength of GGBF slag concrete by early strength(warm and hot water curing method) for the sake of managing with ease the quality of ready mixed concrete. In experimental results, the prediction equation for 28 days compressive strength of GGBF slag concrete could be produced through the linear regression analysis of early strength and 28 days strength. In order to acquire the reliability, all mixture were repeated as 3 times and each mixture order was carried out by random sampling. The prediction equation for 28 days strength of GGBF slag concrete by 1 day compressive strength(accelerated testing) according to warm and hot water curing method won the good reliability.

  • This study was carried out to develop new application field and obtain the basic data of mixed paper with wood pulp and chitosan fiber for producing functional paper. Two types of wood pulp, such as SwBKP and HwBKP, were mixed with chitosan fiber. Physical and optical properties, water vapor absorption, air permeability, antibacterial activity and ash were measured. And the surface morphology of manufactured paper was observed using SEM. The results are as follows. It was revealed that density, breaking length, burst index, tear index, folding endurance and brightness were reduced but water vapor absorption and air permeability were on the rise in the structural view of SwBKP according to increasing the chitosan fiber ratio. Those HwBKP added chitosan fiber were great not only in the strength but also water vapor absorption and air permeability except for brightness. The water vapor absorption was lower and the air permeability was higher in the HwBKP added various chitosan fiber ratios than those with no chitosan fiber. It is estimated that these properties were related with various mixed rate of chitosan fiber. Particularly, air permeability was strongly dependent on the mixed rate of chitosan fiber. The chitosan fiber has superior antibacterial property, comparing with wood fiber. Adding chitosan fiber to the wood pulp was found to have an excellent antibacterial activity, more than 90%. The ashes were determined within 0.5%. Special bonds between chitosan fiber and wood pulp was observed by SEM and it means that the chitosan fiber were combined equally in the interior of wood pulp. In conclusion, mixing wood pulp with chitosan fiber can not only improves the quality of paper but also extend the usage of paper as a functional paper by using inherent property of chitosan. After all, production of functional paper added chitosan fiber is expected for new valuable industry of paper.

  • Geopolymers produced from aluminosilicate materials such as metakaolin and coal ash react with alkali activators and show higher fire resistance than portland cement, due to amorphous inorganic polymer. The percentage of thermal shrinkage of geopolymers ranges from less than 0.5 % to about 3 % until $600^{\circ}C$, and reaches about 5 ~ 7 % before melting. In this study, geopolymers paste having Si/Al = 1.5 and being mixed with carbon nanofibers, silicon carbide, pyrex glass, and vermiculite, and ISO sand were studied in order to understand the compressive strength and the effects of thermal shrinkage of geopolymers. The compressive strength of geopolymers mixed by carbon nanofibers, silicon carbide, pyrex glass, or vermiculite was similar in the range from 35 to 40 MPa. The average compressive strength of a geopolymers mixed with 30 wt.% of ISO sand was lowest of 28 MPa. Thermal shrinkage of geopolymers mixed with ISO sand decreased to about 25 % of paste. This is because the aggregate particles expanded on firing and to compensate the shrinkage of paste. The densification of the geopolymer matrix and the increase of porosity by sintering at $900^{\circ}C$ were observed regardless of fillers.

  • Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of different roughages in total mixed ration (TMR) inoculated with or without coculture of Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) on in vitro rumen fermentation and microbial population. Methods: Three TMRs formulations composed of different forages were used and each TMR was grouped into two treatments: non-fermented TMR and fermented TMR (F-TMR) (inoculated with coculture of L. acidophilus and B. subtilis). After fermentation, the fermentation, chemical and microbial profile of the TMRs were determined. The treatments were used for in vitro rumen fermentation to determine total gas production, pH, ammonianitrogen (NH3-N), and volatile fatty acids (VFA). Microbial populations were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All data were analyzed as a 3×2 factorial arrangement design using the MIXED procedure of Statistical Analysis Systems. Results: Changes in the fermentation (pH, lactate, acetate, propionate, and NH3-N) and chemical composition (moisture, crude protein, crude fiber, and ash) were observed. For in vitro rumen fermentation, lower rumen pH, higher acetate, propionate, and total VFA content were observed in the F-TMR group after 24 h incubation (p<0.05). F-TMR group had higher acetate concentration compared with the non-fermented group. Total VFA was highest (p<0.05) in F-TMR containing combined forage of domestic and imported source (F-CF) and F-TMR containing Italian ryegrass silage and corn silage (F-IRS-CS) than that of TMR diet containing oat, timothy, and alfalfa hay. The microbial population was not affected by the different TMR diets. Conclusion: The use of Italian ryegrass silage and corn silage, as well as the inoculation of coculture of L. acidophilus and B. subtilis, in the TMR caused changes in the pH, lactate and acetate concentrations, and chemical composition of experimental diets. In addition, F-TMR composed with Italian ryegrass silage and corn silage altered ruminal pH and VFA concentrations during in vitro rumen fermentation experiment.

  • The chloride threshold level (CTL) in mixed concrete containing, ordinary Portland cement (OPC), pulverized fuel ash (PFA) ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), and silica fume (SF) is important for study on corrosion of reinforced concrete structures. The CTL is defined as a critical content of chloride at the steel depth of the steel which causes the breakdown of the passive film. The criterion of the CTL represented by total chloride content has been used due to convenience and practicality. In order to demonstrate a relationship between the CTL by total chloride content and the CTL by free chloride content, corrosion test and chloride binding capacity test were carried out. In corrosion test, Mortar specimens were cast using OPC, PFA, GGBS and SF, chlorides were admixed ranging 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0% by weight of binder. All specimens were cured 28 days, and then the corrosion rate was measured by the Tafel's extrapolation method. In chloride binding capacity, paste specimens were casting using OPC, PFA, GGBS and SF, chlorides were admixed ranging 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0% by weight of binders. At 28days, solution mixed with the powder of ground specimens was used to measure binding capacity. All specimens of both experiments were wrapped in polythene film to avoid leaching out of chloride and hydroxyl ions. As a result, the CTL by total chloride content ranged from 0.36-1.44% by weight of binders and the CTL by free chloride content ranged from 0.14-0.96%. Accordingly, the difference was ranging, from 0.22 to 0.48% by weight of binder. The order of difference for binder is OPC > 10% SF > 30% PFA > 60% GGBS.

  • This study is examines the replica of the excavated braided belt that tied the Daedae(大帶) of Simui(深衣). This study aims to comprehend the structure and color of the excavated braided belt, and to reproduce the Jodae(braided belt) of Kim Won-taek(1683-1766) clan, which was excavated in Cheongju. Black dye was used on the belt since it was the color that remained the most on the artifact. This study in the color black is focused on the Cheungchosack in Jeonggongji(展功志) from the first volume of 'Yimwongyeongjeji(林圓經濟志)'. From the Kim Won-taek clan, the braided belt of Simui of Kim Won-taek and his son, Kim Shang-jik(1716-1773), have been excavated. The blackness of the braided belt was more apparent in Kim Shang-jik compared to Kim Won-taek, and also Kim Shang-jik's braided belt was darkbrown. So I mixed gallnut, green vitriol, ash tree and catechu, the ingredient of bluish black, in equal proportions. Kim Won-taek's silk thread was dyed 3 times and Kim Sang-jik's silk thread was dyed 5 times to reproduce the original belt. Based on the information from the 'Saryepyenlam(四禮便覽)' that the Jo was weaved with five colored threads, I reproduced the Jo with sophora flowers, gardenia, amur cork tree, safflower, madder and indigo sediment. Yeokeum organization(interlacing), which is a Jodae woven strands of both sets of 15 repeats construction were in the mixed organization of 3/2 and 2/2.

  • A biofertilizer, having been deordorized and showing promotive effect on plant growth, was manufactured from the rice straw and hen feces by use of Thermoactinomycetes vulgaris. This strain grew vigorously on rice straw mixed with unsterilized hen feces at $50^{\circ}C,\;pH\;8.0{\sim}8.5$ and moisture content of 60% and got rid hen feces of malodour during treatment. The growth of plant(Brassica raga var. previdis) was experimented on humic volcanic ash soil, using pot in thermostatically controlled greenhouse. The biofertilizer was applied as N-fertilizer and air-dried lien feces or ammonium sulfate were used for comparison with the biofertilizer. The effect on. plant growth was evaluated on the basis of the amount of nitrogen as fertilizer, under a loading of 0.1g N/pot, all samples showed a promotion effect of plant growth. But ammonium sulfate and air-dried hen feces inhibited plant growth at the nitrogen content over 0.2 and 0.4g N/pot, respectively, whereas the biofertilizer showed a good promotion effect on plant growth without growth inhibition even at nitrogen content of 0.8g N/pot.

  • In this study, kinetic studies and analysis of the produced syngas were conducted for low rank coal gasification under $CO_2$ atmosphere. 6 coals were analyzed to measure amount of sulfur and ash by proximate and ultimate analyses. And then they were analyzed to select suitable sample by using Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). Selected coal sample Samhwa was mixed with catalysts. Mixed samples with catalysts were used to get activation energy under $CO_2$ atmosphere by using Kissinger's method and shrinking core model (SCM). Also, analysis of produced syngas was performed by Gas Chromatography (GC). In this experiment, activation of the $K_2CO_3$ was the best performance, and result of the analysis of the syngas showed similar trend with result of the activation energy.
