  • This study investigates the compressive strength of high-strength cement composites with 64 mixture designs and 2 curing conditions. The cement composites were designed with varying water-to-binder ratios, silica fume content to cement, and binder content per unit volume of cement composite to explore compressive strength development depending on its mix design. An increase in the water-to-binder ratio decreased the compressive strength of the composites, having consistency with the trend in normal concrete. The compressive strength increased with ages at an ambient curing temperature, but it was not identified at high-temperature curing. The compressive strength development was negligible in case that silica fume content to OPC is 15%~25%, but a decrease in the con ten t below 15% reduced compressive stren gth. It was more obvious in the specimen of low water-to-binder ratio. The specimen with 840kg/m3 of binder content per unit volume had the highest compressive strength in this study, and the decrease in binder content reduced the compressive strength of high strength cement composites in low silica fume content.

  • It was verified that a speaker verification system improved its performances of EER by regularizing log likelihood ratio, using background speaker models. Recently the wireless mobile phones are becoming more dominant communication terminals than wired phones. So the need for building a speaker verification system on mobile phone is increasing abruptly. Therefore in this paper, we had some experiments to examine the performance of speaker verification based on mobile phone's voices. Especially we are focused on the performance variations in EER(Equal Error Rate) according to several background speaker's characteristics, such as selecting methods(MSC, MIX), number of background speakers, aging factor of speech database. For this, we constructed a speaker verification system that uses GMM(Gaussin Mixture Model) and found that the MIX method is generally superior to another method by about 1.0% EER. In aspect of number of background speakers, EER is decreasing in proportion to the background speakers populations. As the number is increasing as 6, 10 and 16, the EERs are recorded as 13.0%, 12.2%, and 11.6%. An unexpected results are happened in aging effects of the speech database on the performance. EERs are measured as 4%, 12% and 19% for each seasonally recorded databases from session 1 to session 3, respectively, where duration gap between sessions is set by 3 months. Although seasons speech database has 10 speakers and 10 sentences per each, which gives less statistical confidence to results, we confirmed that enrolled speaker models in speaker verification system should be regularly updated using the ongoing claimant's utterances.

  • One of the most important requirements for reinforced concrete constructions is the bond behavior between concrete and reinforcement. In this study, the positions (i.e., vertical, horizontal) and the locations (i.e., 225mm and 75mm) of reinforcement were considered as a main test parameter. The ready mixed recycled aggregate concrete concrete with specified strength of 21MPa was prepared with different replacement ratio(i.e 0%, 100%) of recycled coarse aggregate. From the test results, it was bond that under the same mix proportion (i.e., the mix proportions are the same, except for deformed bars position), the bond strength between the recycled coarse aggregate concrete and the reinforcement has obvious relation with reinforcement position. Also, the specimens of top position showed a lower bond stress than that provided in CEB-FIP Code.

  • Differently from fly ash, the bottom ash produced from thermoelectric power plant has been treated as an industrial waste matter, and almost reclaimed a tract from the sea. If this waste material is applicable to foam concrete as an aggregate owing to its light-weight, however, it may be worthy of environmental preservation by recycling of waste material as well as reducing self-weight of high-rising structure and horizontal forces and deformations of retaining wall subject to soil pressure. This study has an objective of evaluating the effects of application of bottom ash on the mechanical properties of foam concrete. Thus, the ratio of bottom ash to cement was selected as a variable for experiment and the effect was measured in terms of unit weight of concrete, air content, water-cement ratio and compressive strength. It can be observed from experiments that the application ratios have different effects on the material parameters considered in this experiment, thus major relationships between application ratio and each material parameter were finally introduced. The result of this study can be applied to decide a mix design proportion of foam concrete while bottom ash is used as an aggregate of the concrete.

  • The present study is to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of porous concrete having non cement that mainly causes carbon emission. This study aims to explore eco-friendly concrete technology capable of reducing the amount of carbon emission due to the use of normal cement by substituting it with non cement porous concrete to which alkali-activator and blast-furnace slag powder are impregnated. As experimental variables, 5 %, 6 %, 7 %, 8 %, 9 % and 10 % of alkali-activator were substituted as binders and applied. Testing evaluated in this study were pH value, void ratio, compressive strength and residual compressive strength shown after being immersed in $H_2SO_4$ solution and $Na_2SO_4$ solution. The test results were compared with those tested with the use of porous concrete to which 400 $kg/m^3$ of unit cement amount was applied as binder. In consequence, it was concluded that; as for pH value, it was decreased than was the case in which cement was used, but increased with the more the use of alkali activator; as for void ratio and compressive strength, the mix proportion in which 9 % and 10 % of alkali activator were applied in terms of substitution ratio showed the result similar to the mixture in which 400 $kg/m^3$ of unit cement ratio was applied; and, as for residual compressive strength in the case of being immersed in $H_2SO_4$ solution and $Na_2SO_4$ solution, the compressive strength was increased, thus leading to improved chemical resistance.

  • Self-leveling material(SLM) is one of the floor finishing materials which make flat surface like as water level by itself in a short time. So it is possible to increase construction speed and enhance economical efficiency In this study, author intended to develop SLM for the industrial warehouse and factory loading heavy weight machinery and vehicles. The demanded properties for this type of SLM are above 200mm of flow value and above 300kgf/$cm^2$ of 28-days compressive strength. To possess demended strength and fluidity, SLM have to be composed of many types of binders and chemical additives. So it is difficult to decide suitable mixing proportion of composition materials. In this study, author investigated the weight percentage effect of main composition materials for high-strength self-leveling material, by experimental design such as tables of orthogonal arrays and simplex design, and by statistical analysis such as analysis of variance and analysis of response surface. Variables of experiments were ordinary Portland cement(OPC), alumina cement(AC), anhydrous gypsum(AG), lime stone(LS) and sand, and properties of tests were fluidity of fresh state and strength of hardened state. Results of this study are showed that suitable mix proportions of binders for the high strength self-leveling materials are two groups. One is 78~85.5% OPC, 7.5~9.5% AC, 9~12.5% AG and the other is 72.5~78% OPC, 9~12.5% AC, 13~15% AG.

  • Porous concrete has been used recently for the purpose of decreasing the load on the earth environment. It consists solely of cement, water and coarse aggregate of uni form size. Its fundamental properties are considerably affected by the physical properties of aggregate because the aggregate is the main material for the most part in its mix proportion. Because of this reason, this study carried out an investigation of the influence of the size and type of aggregate on the fundamental properties of porous concrete. It is shown that the fundamental properties of porous concrete was seldom affected by the size of aggregate except for the case of using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate but varied significantly by the type of aggregate. In particular, the compressive strength of porous concrete using $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was much higher than that using other aggregate, and its void ratio and coefficient of permeability was lower. Moreover, the capacity to maintain the permeability of porous concrete was found to vary by the size and type of aggregate. Of particular notice was that it decreased greatly when $2.5{\sim}5mm$ aggregate was used. Unlike ordinary concrete, porous concrete exhibited very high dynamic modulus of elasticity at early age and continued to increase but slowly afterwards.

  • Recently, the importance of the conutermeasures for waste materials has pointed out. Waste glass is also one to waste materials used for the recycling in construction sites. The crushed waste glass has been used to make a glass polymer composite that can be applied for sewer, storm drain pipe and interlocking block, etc. In this study, the crushed waste glass is explored with the possibility of recycling it, as a substitute for fine aggregates. The prepose of this investigation is to improve the strengths and acid resistance of the UP mortars using crushed waste glass. The UP mortars are prepare with blast furnace slag fly ash filler. the UP-fine aggregate ratios the crushed waste glass replacements for fine aggregate are tested strengths before and after immersion(H (아래첨자2)SO(아래첨자4) 10%), weight change and acid resistance are also tested. From the test results, the relative strength or UP mortars using fly ash as filler are found to be somewhat superior to that of the UP mortars using blast furnace as filler, And a UP mortar with fly ash as a filler, a UP-fine aggregate ratio of 15% and a waste glass replacement if 50% for fine aggregate is recommended as optimal mix proportion of UP mortar using crushed waste glass. Accordingly, it is enough to assure the use of the crushed waare glass as an aggregate for the production of UP mortar.

  • Recently, the use of volcanic-ash as a part of cement content in concrete is very common. But, it has been indicated that the compressive strength of concrete using large amount of volcanic-ash as a part of cement content in early age is low and carbonation velocity is fast. To solve those problems, High Volume Volcanic-Ash Concrete which contained large amount of volcanic-ash as a part of fine aggregate has been proposed. This is an experimential study to compare and analyze the properties of High Volumn Volcanic-Ash Concrete according to the replacement method and ratio of volcanic-ash. For this purpose, the mix proportion of concrete according to the replacement method(PL, C10, C150, A10, A100, A150) And then slump, setting time, bleeding, compressive strength, tensile strength and carbornation test were performed. According to test results, it was found that the compressive strength of the concrete using the volcanic-ash as a part of fine aggregate(A) was higher than that of the concrete using the volcanic-ash as a part of cement content(C). And, the compressive strength of the A concrete increased in early age as well as in long tern age as the volcanic-ash content increased.

  • Accurate assessment of $CO_2$ emission from buildings requires gathering $CO_2$ emission data of various construction materials. Unfortunately, the amount of available data is limited in most countries. This study was conducted to present the $CO_2$ emission data of concrete, which is the most important construction material in Korea, by conducting a statistical analysis of the concrete mix proportion. Finally, regression models that can be used to estimate the $CO_2$ emission of concrete in all strengths were developed, and the validity of these models was evaluated using 24 and 35MPa concrete data. The validation test showed that the error ratio of the estimated value did not exceed a maximum of 5.33%. This signifies that the models can be used in acquiring the $CO_2$ emission data of concrete in all strengths. The proposed equations can be used in assessing the environmental impact of various construction structural designs by presenting the $CO_2$ emission data of all concrete types.
