Most of broiler houses in Korea have the trouble of environmental control such as suitability, stability, and uniformity of internal climate, resulting in serious stress on chickens. Accordingly, it is very urgent to develop optimum designs of naturally and mechanically ventilated broiler houses for Korean climate. In this study, the internal climates such as air temperature, humidity, dust, ammonia gas, and air velocity were measured at a naturally ventilated broiler house. The data were collected during summer season including local weather data. It was found that the difference between measured and optimum air temperatures was $14.0^{\circ}C$ in maximum during the summer time. The daily maximum range of internal averaged air temperature was found $10.5^{\circ}C$ while the uniformity was $5.2^{\circ}C$ in maximum. The maximum, average, and minimum internal averaged relative humidity were 89.3%, 73.7%, and 49.2%, respectively while locally measured were 95.1% and 47.2%, respectively in maximum and minimum. Considering Temperature-humidity index, during summer season, over 97% of totally rearing period was shown that counter plan is needed for thermal stress while it was very dangerous situation for 22% of the rearing period. The ammonia gas and dust concentrations were seriously affected by the broilers activity, growth level, and relative humidity.
Standard weather data available to greenhouse environmental design are limited in most regions of the country. So, instead of using standard weather data, in order to find the method to build design weather data for greenhouse heating and cooling, design outdoor weather conditions were analyzed and compared by TAC method and frequency analysis using climatological normal and thirty years from 1981 to 2010 hourly weather data provided by KMA and standard weather data provided by KSES. Average TAC values of outdoor temperature, relative humidity and insolation using thirty years hourly weather data showed a good agreement with them using standard weather data. Therefore, in regions which are not available standard weather data, we suggest that design outdoor weather conditions should be analyzed using thirty years hourly weather data. Average of TAC values derived from every year hourly weather data during the whole period can be established as environmental design standards, and also minimum and maximum of them can be used as reference data.
The Joint curing barns for flue-cured tobacco is a favorite with the tobacco farmers in Korea. However, most of farmer utilizing the joint curing barns indicated many problems such as high temperature and noise in the working room and a dry of cured leaves in the storage room. A structure of Joint curing barns has been modified to meet the needs of tobacco farmers. Compared with the unimproved joint curing barns, the improved one showed that the noise of workshop decreased about 7.7~10.8db, the amount of $CO_2$ decreased 40~50ppm in a working room and 80~100ppm in a machine room. Ammonia gas decreased 0.29mg/㎥ and the temperature of a working room dropped about 2.1~3.5$^{\circ}C$. The amount of air flow in a working room increased 23.2% at a site being 2m away from the entrance and 30.8% at a center. The inner temperature of the improved storage room showed that maximum temperature dropped about 3$^{\circ}C$, minimum temperature was high about 2$^{\circ}C$. The highest relative humidity was low 6%, the lowest one increased high about 10% when compared with the unimproved joint curing barns.
In this paper, the difference of the property of absorption and desorption for five species in semi-steady state are studied. The species used are listed in Table 1 and the dimension of specimen was $8\times8{\times}T$(Tangential direction)cm and tested in various conditions. A change of average moisture content with time were measured in each cycles. The results obtained are summarized as follows. When the relative humidity in air was maximum or minimum, the distribution of moisture In wood of all specimens were illustrated by exponential curves of decrease or increased from lace 10 center of wood. From the consideration of coefficient of decrease(C), the amount of moisture change of spruce was larger than the others. The pheonomenon was considered no relation to the specific gravity in air dry, but the wood structures. The velocity of the absorption and desorption for species decreased in the order spruce(Picea sitchensis) neodobam(Fagus crenata), solsong(Tsuga heterophylla), meranti(Shorea sp.) and kaesoo(Cercidiphyllum japoicum). In case of constant temperature and water vapor pressure is changed. the amount of absorbed moisture was larger than that of constant water vapor pressure and temperature vaned. In this fact, it is considered that the property of sorption of wood is strongly influenced by vapor pressure gradient than temperature gradient.

The objective of this study is to the test applicability of SLURP on Soyanggang-dam watershed. The area of this watershed is $2,694km^2$ and mean elevation and slope is 650 m and $23^{\circ}$ respectively. Topographical parameters were derived from DEM using TOPAZ and SLURPAZ. NDVI was calculated from multi-temporal NOAA/AVHRR images. The daily meteorological data and hydrograph during $1999\~2001$ were selected for model calibration and performance tests. Weather elements (dew-point temperature, solar radiation, maximum and minimum temperature, relative humidity) were required from the S meteorological stations near the study area. The model parameters of each land cover class were optimized by sensitivity analysis and SCE-UA method. Runoff rate shows $49.33\%\~64.06\%$. Simulated results during 4 years were estimated by Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency and WMO volume error. Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency shows $0.61\~0.75$ and WMO volume error shows $6.1\%-18.8\%$.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the urban heat island ultimately by analyzing long-wave radiation which is the dominant factor of night minimum temperature formation. We observed during two months with four elements which is long and short wave radiation, temperature, relative humidity. And we analyzed the correlation between the four factors of long-wave radiation, temperature, cloud form, and cloud amount during the summer two months on the night time. Observations were carried out at two sites in Daegu and nearby. The results are as follows. (1) Long-wave radiation change per $1^{\circ}C$ in summer was larger than winter. (2) Long-wave radiation amount is affected by temperature change when the amount of cloud is small. (3) Low cloud was analyzed to have more influence on long-wave radiation than high cloud.

A UV-MFRSR instrument was used to measure the global and diffuse irradiances in 7 narrowband channels in the UV range 299.4, 304.4, 310.9, 317.3. 324.5, 331.3 and 367.4 nm at Gwangju ($35^{circ}\;13'N\;126^{circ}\;50'E$), Korea. Spectral UV-AOD was retrieved using the Langley plot method for data collected from April 2002 to July 2004. Temporal variation of AOD at 367.4 nm ($AOD_{367nm}$) showed a maximum in June ($0.95\pm0.43$) and a minimum in February ($0.31\pm0.14$). Clear seasonal variation of $AOD_{367nm}$ was observed with average values of $0.68\pm0.29,\;0.82\pm0.41,\;0.48\pm0.22\;and\;0.42\pm0.21$ in spring, summer, fall and winter, respectively, Average Angstrom exponent for the entire monitoring period was $2.03\pm0.75$ in the UV-A ($324.5\∼367.4$ nm) range. Seasonal variation of the Angstrom exponent showed a maximum in spring and a minimum in summer. The lowest Angstrom exponent in summer might be due to hygroscopic growth of particles under conditions of high relative humidity. UV-AOD changes under different atmospheric conditions were also analyzed. Uncertainty in retrieving spectral UV-AOD was also estimated to range between $\pm0.218\;at\;304.4\;nm\;and\;\pm0.135\;at\;367.4\;nm$. Major causes of uncertainty were total column ozone retrieval and extraterrestrial irradiance retrieval at shorter and longer wavelengths, respectively.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects on meteorological variables in Seoul, Busan and Jeju during the partial solar eclipse event of 22 July 2009 in Korea. Solar irradiance decreased 16 and 19 minutes after eclipse in Seoul and Busan, and 6 minutes before eclipse in Jeju. Minimum solar irradiance occurred 7 and 3 minutes after maximum eclipse in Seoul and Busan, respectively, and 8 minutes before maximum eclipse in Jeju. Solar irradiance began to increase after maximum eclipse in Seoul and Busan, and recovered to the original state as eclipse ended. On the other hand, recovery of solar irradiance after maximum eclipse in Jeju was slower than those of two cities. Temperature drop due to partial solar eclipse were $0.7^{\circ}C$, $4.0^{\circ}C$, $1.5^{\circ}C$ in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju, respectively, and time needed to arrive minimum temperature from maximum eclipse were each 12, 32, 30 minutes, respectively. Change of relative humidity during partial solar eclipse were 2.6%, 17.4%, 12.3% in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju, respectively. Temperature drop turned out to be sharper as altitude increases. Wind speed decreased by each about 1.1 m/s, 3.4 ms/s, 1.4 ms/s due to partial solar eclipse in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju. Soil temperature of 5 cm equally decreased by $0.2^{\circ}C$ in Seoul and Busan, soil temperature of 10 cm maintained almost constant, and soil temperature of 20 cm was hardly affected by eclipse.
Garlic and onion are grown in major cultivation regions that depend on the crop condition and the meteorology of the production area. Therefore, when yields are to be predicted, it is reasonable to use a statistical model in which both the crop and the meteorological elements are considered. In this paper, using a multiple linear regression model, we predicted garlic and onion yields in major cultivation regions. We used the MODIS NDVI that reflects the crop conditions, and six meteorological elements for 7 major cultivation regions from 2006 to 2015. The multiple linear regression models were suggested by using stepwise regression in the extraction of independent variables. As a result, the MODIS NDVI in February was chosen the significant independent variable of the garlic and onion yield prediction model. In the case of meteorological elements, the garlic yield prediction model were the mean temperature (March), the rainfall (November, March), the relative humidity (April), and the duration time of sunshine (April, May). Also, the rainfall (November), the duration time of sunshine (January), the relative humidity (April), and the minimum temperature (June) were chosen among the variables as the significant meteorological elements of the onion yield prediction model. MODIS NDVI and meteorological elements in the model explain 84.4%, 75.9% of the garlic and onion with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 42.57 kg/10a, 340.29 kg/10a. These lead to the result that the characteristics of variations in garlic and onion growth according to MODIS NDVI and other meteorological elements were well reflected in the model.
In this study, the adhesive strength of three commercial polycarboxylate cements to ten types of dental casting alloys, such as gold, palladium, silver, indium, copper, nickel, chromium, and human enamel and dentine were measured and compared with that of a conventional zinc phosphate cement. The $8.0mm{\times}3.0mm$ cylindrical alloy specimens were made by casting. The enamel specimens were prepared from the labial surface of human upper incisor, and the dentine specimens were prepared from the occulusal surface of the human molar respectively. Sound extracted human teeth, which had been kept in a fresh condition since, extraction, were mounted in a wax box with a cold-curing acrylic resin to expose the flattened area. The mounted teeth were then placed in a Specimen Cutter (Technicut) and were cut down under a water spray, and then the flat area on the all specimens were ground by hand with 400 and 600 grit wet silicone carbide paper. Two such specimens were then cemented together face-to-face with freshly mixed cement, and moderate finger pressure was applied to squeeze the cement to a thin and uniform film. All cemented specimens were then kept in a thermostatic humidor cabinet regulated at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C.$ and more than 95 per cent relative humidity and tested after 24 hours and 1 week. Link chain was attached to each alloy specimen to reduce the rigidity of the jig assembly, and then all the specimens were mounted in the grips of the Instron Universal Testing Machine, and a tensile load was delivered to the adhering surface at a cross head speed of 0.20 mm/min. The loads to which the specimens were subjected were recorded on a chart moving at 0.50 mm/min. The adhesive strength was determined by measuring the load when the specimen separated from the cement block and by dividing the load by the area. The test was performed in a room at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C.$ and $50{\pm}10$ per cent relative humidity. A minimum of five specimens were tested each material and those which deviated more than 15 per cent from the mean were discarded and new specimens prepared. From the experiments, the following results were obtained. 1) It was found that the adhesive strength of the polycarboxylate cement to all alloys tested was considerably greater than that of the zinc phosphate cement. 2) The adhesive strength of the polycarboxylate cements was superior to the non precious alloys, such as the copper, indium, nickel and chromium alloys, but it was inferior to the precious gold, silver and palladium alloys. 3) Surface treatment of the alloy was found to be an important factor in achieving adhesion. It appears that a polycarboxylate cement will adhere better to a smooth surface than to a rough one. This contrasts with zinc phosphate cements, where a rough helps mechanical interlocking. 4) The adhesion of the polycarboxylate cement with enamel was found superior to its adhesion with dentine.
