  • The interest of THz technology has been growing fast due to the potential of its vast applications. Today´s THz technology pursues semiconductor based miniature electronic devices operating at undeveloped electromagnetic frequency band between 100 GHz and 10 THz.   • 본 논문에서는 국방과학연구소에서 운용하는 KOMSAR(Korea Miniature Synthetic Aperture Radar)장비로 측정한 실제 항공기의 데이터를 이용하여 효율적인 표적식별을 수행하였다. 표적식별과정은 수신된 모든 데이터에 대하여 거리측면도를 구한 다음 4개의 표적으로 분리한 후, 효과적인 특성벡터를 구성하여 nearest neighbor(NN) 구분기로 표적식별 성능을 수행하였다. 표적식별수행 결과, 높은 구분성능으로 구분이 가능하였다.

  • Non-invasive evaluation of liver function in animal models remains a challenge. Hepatoscintigraphy provides information about changes in liver size and shape, and enables to understand general liver function. Futhermore it is readily used to diagnosis complications of liver transplantation like hepatitis, rejections and biliary complications. In this study, we investigated the usefulness of evaluating the liver function in miniature pigs with $^{99m}Tc-Tin$ colloid and $^{99m}Tc-DISIDA$ which are the most commonly used radiopharmaceuticals in human medicine. In result, $^{99m}Tc-Tin$ colloid was uptaked in lung, liver, gastric wall and kidney in miniature pigs. And $^{99m}Tc-DISIDA$ showed continuous uptake images of heart, lung, liver, gallbladder and duodenum, and it was similar to human's. Therefore we could conclude $^{99m}Tc-Tin$ colloid would not be suitable for evaluating hepatic function because of it's nonspecific affinity, however $^{99m}Tc-DISIDA$ scintigraphy would be an effective method for detecting hepatobiliary function in miniature pigs.

A STUDY ON THE ARMILLARY SPHERE OF TONGCHEON-UI DESCRIBED BY HONG DAE-YONG (홍대용 통천의의 혼천의 연구)

  • This study aims to develop a restoration model of an armillary sphere of Tongcheon-ui (Pan-celestial Armillary Sphere) by referring to the records of Damheonseo (Hong Dae-Yong Anthology) and the artifact of an armillary sphere in the Korean Christian Museum of Soongsil University. Between 1760 and 1762, Hong, Dae-Yong (1731-1783) built Tongcheon-ui, with Na, Kyung-Jeok (1690-1762) designing the basic structure and Ann, Cheo-In (1710-1787) completing the assembly. The model in this study is a spherical body with a diameter of 510 mm. Tongcheon-ui operates the armillary sphere by transmitting the rotational power from the lantern clock. The armillary sphere is constructed in the fashion of a two-layer sphere: the outer one is Yukhab-ui that is fixed; and the inner one, Samsin-ui, is rotated around the polar axis. In the equatorial ring possessed by Samsin-ui, an ecliptic ring and a lunar-path ring are successively fixed and are tilted by 23.5° and 28.5° over the equatorial ring, respectively. A solar miniature attached to a 365-toothed inner gear on the ecliptic ring reproduces the annual motion of the Sun. A lunar miniature installed on a 114-toothed inner gear of the lunar-path ring can also replay the moon's orbital motion and phase change. By the set of 'a ratchet gear, a shaft and a spur gear' installed in the solstice-colure double-ring, the inner gears in the ecliptic ring and lunar-path ring can be rotated in the opposite direction to the rotation of Samsin-ui and then the solar and lunar miniatures can simulate their revolution over the period of a year and a month, respectively. In order to indicate the change of the moon phases, 27 pins were arranged in a uniform circle around the lunar-path ring, and the 29-toothed wheel is fixed under the solar miniature. At the center of the armillary sphere, an earth plate representing a world map is fixed horizontally. Tongcheon-ui is the armillary sphere clock developed by Confucian scholars in the late Joseon Dynasty, and the technical level at which astronomical clocks could be produced at the time is of a high standard.

Measurement of Perturbed Pressures under Inherently Compensated Restrictors in Externally Pressurized Air Bearings (자성형 급기공을 갖는 외부가압 공기베어링의 섭동압력측정에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, steady state and perturbed pressures are experimentally measured under inherently compensated restrictors in externally pressurized air bearings. A piezo actuator is used for simulating small displacement perturbation in the air film. The pressures under the restrictors are measured by a miniature type pressure transducer and the height of the air film is measured by capacitance type gap sensors developed by Chapman's method. The perturbed pressure is obtained through Fourier transformation of the two signals. The measured perturbed pressures are in good agreement with the calculated values.

  • The writer, a member of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology(SVP), succeeds in making the miniatured dinosaur mcdels from the Early Cretaceous dinosaur remains of Korea. The dinosaur species of reconstruction models this time are the Ultrasaurus tabriensis KIM, the Iguanodon kimi KIM, and the Deinonychus koreanesis KIM. Those are reconstructed for the first time in Korea since the first discovery of dinosaur skeletons in 1973 from the country. The miniature models of dinosaurs reconstructed are exhibited by the photographs from lateral, frontal, and dorsal views.
