  • RC (Reinforced Concrete) members are always subjected to loading conditions and have construction joints when constructed on a big scale. Service life for RC structure exposed to chloride attack is usually estimated through chloride diffusion test in sound concrete, however the test is performed without consideration of effect of loading and joint. In the present work, chloride diffusion coefficient is measured in concrete cured for 1 year. In order to evaluate the effect of applied load, cold joint, and mineral admixtures, OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) and 40%-replaced GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) concrete are prepared. The diffusion test is performed under loading conditions for concrete containing cold joint. Investigating the previous test results for 91 days-cured condition and the present work, changing diffusion coefficients with applied stress are normalized considering material type and cold joint. For evaluation of service life in RC continuous beam with 2 spans, non-linear analytical model is adopted, and service life in each location is evaluated considering the effects of applied stress, cold joint, and GGBFS. From the work, varying service life is simulated under various loading conditions, and the reduced results due to cold joint and tensile zone are quantitatively evaluated. The effect of various conditions on diffusion can provide more quantitative evaluation of chloride behavior and the related service life.

  • This study uses recycled green building materials based on a Taiwan-made recycled mineral admixture (including fly ash, slag, glass sand and rubber powder) as replacements for fine aggregates in concrete and tests the properties of the resulting mixtures. Fine aggregate contents of 5% and 10% were replaced by waste LCD glass sand and waste tire rubber powder, respectively. According to ACI concrete-mixture design, the above materials were mixed into lightweight aggregate concrete at a constant water-to-binder ratio (W/B = 0.4). Hardening (mechanical), non-destructive and durability tests were then performed at curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days and the engineering properties were studied. The results of these experiments showed that, although they vary with the type of recycling green building material added, the slumps of these admixtures meet design requirements. Lightweight aggregate yields better hardened properties than normal-weight concrete, indicating that green building materials can be successfully applied in lightweight aggregate concrete, enabling an increase in the use of green building materials, the improved utilization of waste resources, and environmental protection. In addition to representing an important part of a "sustainable cycle of development", green building materials represent a beneficial reutilization of waste resources.

  • Generally the ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete has rich mix composition composed of high-strength type mineral admixtures and as a result of very low water-binder ratio(about under w/b=25%), it reveals ultra-high compressive strength(about over 100Mpa). Also, in order to obtain sufficient toughness after construction, we usually mix a large quantity steel fiber with ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete therefore we must use proper mixer for workability. When we make the ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete we need more long mixing time or much super-plasticizer than when we manufacture normal concrete. These bring about economical problems and performance deterioration. Therefore, in this study, in order to manufacture easily ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete we develope a dedicated mixer for ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete with high speed type. It carried out the examination for comparison between the dedicated and general type mixer, the analysis and counterplan of the point at issue when we manufacture ultra-high strength steel reinforced concrete by the dedicated mixer.

  • In a hardened concrete, diffusion of oxygen, carbon dioxide, aggressive ions, and moisture from the environment to the concrete takes place through the pore network. It is well known that making dense cement matrix enhances the durability of concrete as well as all the characteristics including strength of concrete. In this paper,9 mix concretes with water to cementitious material ratio (40,45, and $50\%$) and replacement ratio of GGBFS (40 and $60\%$ of cement by weight) were studied on the micro-pore structure by mercury intrusion porosimetry and the accelerated chloride diffusion test by potential difference. From the results the average pore diameter and accelerated chloride diffusivity of concrete were ordered NPC > G4C > G6C. It is concluded that there is a good correlation between the average pore diameter and the chloride diffusivity, and the mineral admixtures has a filling effect, which increases the tortuosity of pore and makes large pores finer, on the pore structure of cement matrix due to the latent hydraulic reaction with hydrates of cement.

  • Recently, the construction of underwater structures has been gradually increased, but underwater concrete got some problems of quality deterioration and water contamination around cast-in-situ of construction. In addition, massive underwater structures such as LNG tank, underwater concrete structures of large and continuous high- strength subterranean wall under water are being demanded lower heat of hydration. In this paper, the mechanical properties of high-strength antiwashout underwater concrete (HAWC) containing with two kinds of mineral admixtures respectively were investigated. On the basis of these results, the pH value and suspended solids of HAWC manufactured in the mock-up test were 10.0$\Box$11.0 and 51 mg/${\iota}$ at 30 minutes later, respectively, initial and final setting time were about 30,37 hours, and the slump flow was 530$\pm$20Tm. In the placement at a speed of $27 m^3/hr$, there was no large difference in flowing velocity with or without reinforcing bar, and flowing slope was maintained at horizontal level. Compressive strength and elastic modulus of the cored specimen somewhat decreased as flowing distance was far; however, those of central area showed the highest value.

  • Self-compacting concrete (SCC), characterized by the high flowability and resistance to segregation, is due to the high amount of paste (including cement and mineral admixtures) in contrast with normal concrete (NC). However, the high amount of paste will limit the volume fractions of coarse aggregate, and reduce the tendency of coarse aggregate to suppress drying shrinkage deformations. For this reason, SCC tends to produce higher values of drying shrinkage than NC for the most part. In order to assess the drying shrinkage of SCC quantitatively for application to offshore caisson foundations, the formulas presented in the literatures (ACI 209 and CEB-FIP) are used to predict the values of drying shrinkage in SCC according to the corresponding mix proportions. Additionally, a finite element (FE) model, which assumes concrete to be a homogeneous and isotropic material and follows the actual size and environmental conditions of the caisson, is utilized to simulate stress distribution situations and deformations in the SCC caisson resulting from the drying shrinkage. The probability of cracking and the behavior of drying shrinkage of the SCC caisson are drawn from the analytic results calculated by the FE model proposed in this paper.

  • Rheological properties of ordinary portland cement (OPC) containing metakaoline (MK), granulated blast furnace slag (GBS) and polycarboxylate type superplasticizer (PCA) were investigated using a mini-slump test, sedimentation test and viscometer. Fluidity of cement pastes containing MK (OPC-MK, OPC-MK-GBS systems) with PCA were higher than those of the cement pastes without MK(OPC, OPC-GBS systems). Colloid suspensions with $0.1\%$ PCA were changed from stable sedimentation behaviors to flocculation behaviors in the OPC-MK, OPC-GBS and OPC-MK-GBS systems. The colloid suspensions showed stable sedimentation behaviors with PCA greater than $0.2\%$. The OPC system showed shear thinning behavior. However, the other systems showed weak shear thinning behaviors with PCA. Rheological properties of cement pastes were improved when MK and GBS were contained together. The rheological properties of OPC-MK, OPC-GBS and OPC-MK-GBS systems were improved by PCA added greater than $0.2\%$.

  • In this study, the experiment was carried out to investigate and analyze the strength properties and flowability of concrete using meta kaolin. The main experimental variables were water/binder ratio 40.0$\%$, water content 170kg/$m^{3}$ and mineral admixtures such as slag powder, silica fume and meta kaolin. According to the test results, the principle conclusions are summarized as follows. 1) The flowing property of concrete that uses meta kaolin appears to be the same to that of the silica fume concrete, but the slump flow that evaluates the compaction ability of concrete shows the most favorable performance. 2) The air content of the concrete that uses meta kaolin can be effectively controlled for the target performance in compliance with the use of AE agent. 3) When it comes to the strength of concrete that uses meta kaolin, the most favorable development of strength occurs when the replacement rate is 10$\%$, in case of the silica fume, and the slag power. In addition, as the replacement rate increases, so becomes the development of concrete strength favorable.

  • Carbonation and drying shrinkage are very important properties of concrete, that can cause concrete to lower its capacity and spall. But the research on them in high strength concrete is very poor. In this study, to estimate influences of W/B, the kind of admixture, the replacement ratio of admixture, fineness of blast furnace and etc. on drying shrinkage and carbonation, we make experiment with 3 levels(28, 35, 55%) of W/B, 3 kinds(blast-furnace slag, fly-ash, silica-fume) of admixture, 3 levels of the replacement ratio, 3 levels(4000, 6000, 8000cm2/g) of fineness of blast-furnace slag and 2 kinds of curing condition. As the results, compressive strength of concrete was decreased, as W/C was increased and the replacement ratio of admixture was increased. Drying shrinkage was increased, as W/B was higher, the replacement ratio of admixture was increased and fineness of blast-furnace slag was decreased. And carbonation was increased, as W/B ratio was higher, the replacement ratio of admixture was increased.
