  • Two types of conductive materials are selected and their applicable properties are investigated so as to give the capability of self-diagnosis of fracture in composite mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete. In this study, for giving selfdiagnosis capability, the powder of cokes and milled carbon fiber as conductive materials are selected and intermixed with mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete. After examining change in the value of electric resistance before and after the occurrence of cracks at each flexural load-stage in composite mortar, concrete or reinforced concrete, the relationships of each factors (electric resistance, crack and flexural load) are analyzed. As the results, it can be recognized that conductive materials with powder of cokes and milled carbon fiber can be applied for self-diagnosis of flexural fracture in composite mortar, concrete and reinforced concrete specimen.

  • In this research, The basic physical properties and EMP shielding performance by thickness were evaluated for optimum composition of EMP shield concrete that can be applied on-site by mixing carbon-based materials with high conductivity into concrete that uses electric furnace oxidized slag (EOS). As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the slump decreased as the amount of mixed carbon fib er (CF) increased, and increased when milled carb on (MCF) was mixed. As for the compressive strength, it was confirmed that EOS enhanced the strength compared to NA, and it was confirmed that the strength decreased when CF and MCF were mixed. As the thickness of the EMP shielding measurement increases, the shielding rate increases, and it was confirmed that the type of conductive material and the thickness of the test specimen have a greater influence on the shielding rate than the Amount of conductive material added. As a result of a comparative evaluation, EOS CF 0.2 is considered suitable for EMP shield concrete formulation.

  • In this work, the pitch-based carbon paper (P-CP) was prepared by re-impregnating of binder pitches and PAN-based milled carbon fibers (MCF) at low temperature carbonization process. The influence of MCF content on physicochemical properties of MCF/P-CP was investigated. As a result, the tensile strength of MCF/P-CP was increased sharply from 10 wt.% to 20 wt.% of MCF. Also, the increase of MCF content led to the decrease of interfacial contact resistivity and the improvement of electrical and thermal conductivity of MCF/P-CP. These results were probably due to the increase of density of MCF/P-CP, resulting in the formation of electrically and thermally conductive paths of the carbon paper.

  • In this paper, a composite maintenance robot using carbon fiber spray method was developed that automatically sprays mixture was created for repair to damaged areas to repair them. To develop a robot, a repair process was developed in which a mixture of milled carbon fiber, epoxy resin, and hardener is sprayed and consolidated on the damaged area. To automate the repair process, an EOAT based on a collaborative robot was developed that can automatically suction and spray the mixture onto the damaged area. To evaluate the repair performance of the robot, 0° and 90° unidirectional specimens were manufactured and tested in accordance with ASTM D3039. Tests were performed on undamaged specimen, damaged specimen, and repaired specimen by a robot after damaged. As a result of the specimen test, the tensile strength of the 0° and 90° specimens was recovered by 10% and 90% after repair. Based on the test results, the repair performance of the developed composite maintenance robot was verified.

  • In this study, the fracture behavior by low velocity impact damage and the tendencies of impact energy absorption were investigated. Low velocity impact tests were performed using a mini tower drop weight impact tester, and graphite powder, carbon black and milled carton fiber were chosen as additives. Addition of graphite powder increased the maximum load and maintained the stress long until the total penetration happened. At the content of 9 vol%, they showed the maximum of 42% improvement in impact strength compared composites containing no additives. At the test with low impact energy of 0.4 J, impact energy was consumed by delamination in the composite containing no additives, however, as graphite contents increased, the tendency of failure changed to the penetration of the specimen.
