Additives in plastics are capable of migrating from the packaging materials into the foodstuffs, thereby presenting a source of contamination and a potential health risk to the consumer. The migration from packaging materials into foodstuffs is first of all regulated by examining the amounts of global and specific migrated components. Besides, there is worldwide still a need for practical methods for measuring and monitoring migration from polymers, especially for the testing of migration into fatty foodstuffs. Therefore, these studies were undertaken to investigate the safety status of domestic plastic packaging materials with respect to migration. Another objective of this study was to examine the applicability of ethanol as an alternative fatty food simulant substituting for olive oil and n-heptane. The evaporation residues for various dometic plastic samples determined as described in Korean food laws were in the level from 4.3 to 14.5 mg/$\ell$, which were much lower than the limit value of 150 mg/$\ell$. The global migration values into 95 % ethanol showed to be comparable to those into n-heptane, while the olive oil migration values were comparably higher than those into ethanol or n-heptane and moreover they were not reproducible. The kinetic migration begavior of additives in polyolefin samples into 95% ethanol showed a Fickian diffusion process. The results of these studies on global migration and kinetic testings demonstrate that the ethanol could be successfully substitute for the olive oil and n-heptane as an alternative fatty food simulant, at least in contact with polyoefins.

This study investigated the effects of different factors on the migration of a fluorescent whitening agent (FWA) from paper treated with FWAs to non-fluorescent papers. FWA migration experiments were carried out in vertical and friction contacts between the papers dyed with FWAs and non-fluorescent papers. During the experiments, we identified the effects of the addition and types of FWAs, contact time, temperature, and relative humidity (RH) on FWA migration. The fluorescence indices of the non-fluorescent papers were measured before and after the migration experiments, and the Student's t test, a statistical tool, was utilized to compare results from different migration experiments. In vertical contact experiments, FWA migration to non-fluorescent paper was observed at $30^{\circ}C$ and 70% RH; this was attributed to the high moisture content of the paper. FWA migration did not occur significantly at $23^{\circ}C$ and 50% RH. In the friction contact experiments, FWA migrations were identified at both temperature conditions and RH percentages. The addition and types of FWAs did not increase the fluorescence index of non-fluorescent papers. Therefore, it was concluded that the moisture content of paper and the friction contact affected FWA migration from the papers containing internal and surface FWAs.
Using reciprocity theorem, one direction aperture of seismogram can be extended to full aperture seismogram. Modified seismogram is applied to reverse time migration only to acquire improved migration image. In this paper, we tested reverse time migration with the Marmousi velocity data to examine efficiency of modified seismogram. And linearly increasing velocity model is selected and examined for a case where velocity data is insufficient. When true velocity is applied, using modified seismogram enhances the reverse time migration image more than using original seismogram. In the case of using linearly increasing velocity model, migration image is distorted. So low frequency source is brought in migration process. Reverse time migration image with low frequency source and linearly increasing velocity model is improved when modified seismogram is used. From the result of study, seismogram modification by reciprocity theorem is useful and migration image can be enhanced.

The domestic market of database in Korea is estimated to be over 3.663 trillion won. The data migration is getting to be more important along with the continuous growth of the database industry. g-CRM and private recommending function are examples of the service that can be given through coupling among customer database, product database, geographic information database, and others. The core infrastructure is also the database which is integrated, perfect, and reliable. There are not enough researches on efficient way of data migration and integrating process and investigation of migrated data though trends of database in IT environment as above. In connection with this issue, we have made a model for data migration on scientific and technological contents and suggest the result of data migration process adapting that model. In addition, we verified migration's exhaustiveness, migration's consistency, and migration's coherence for investigation of migrated data and database. From the result, we conclude data migration based on proper model has a significant influence on the database consistency and the data values correctness and is essential to maintain high qualified database.
In this paper, we propose a migration technique for autonomous mobile agents suitable to dynamic environments. The proposed migration technique dynamically creates the itinerary of agents that considers states of networks and systems. In the migration of the agent, it first sends prefetching message to the next system. The system receives necessary data for migration in advance. Through this, we reduce the amount of the sending data and save the time for creating the instance of the agent. And it improves the execution efficiency by using the checkpoint-based recovery method that does not execute the agent again and recovers the process states even though the errors take place. To show superiority of the proposed technique, we compare the proposed method with the existing methods through various simulations.
The proliferation, migration, cytokine release, and contraction of airway smooth muscle cells are key events in the airway remodeling process that occur in lung disease such as asthma, chronic obstruction pulmonary disease, and cancer. These events can be modulated by a number of factors, including cigarette smoke extract (CSE). CSE-induced alterations in the viability, migration, and contractile abilities of normal human airway cells remain unclear. This study investigated the effect of CSE on cell viability, migration, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ secretion, and contraction in normal human bronchial smooth muscle cells (HBSMCs). Treatment of HBSMCs with 10% CSE induced cell death, and the death was accompanied by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). CSE-induced cell death was reduced by N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC), an ROS scavenger. In addition, CSE reduced the migration ability of HBSMCs by 75%. The combination of NAC with CSE blocked the CSE-induced reduction of cell migration. However, CSE had no effect on TNF-${\alpha}$ secretion and NF-${\kappa}B$ activation. CSE induced an increase in intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in 64% of HBSMCs. CSE reduced the contractile ability of HBSMCs, and the ability was enhanced by NAC treatment. These results demonstrate that CSE treatment induces cell death and reduces migration and contraction by increasing ROS generation in normal HBSMCs. These results suggest that CSE may induce airway change through cell death and reduction in migration and contraction of normal HBSMCs.

Oral administration of royal jelly (RJ) promotes wound healing in diabetic mice. Concerns have arisen regarding the efficacy of RJ on the wound healing process of normal skin cells. In this study, a wound was created by scratching normal human dermal fibroblasts, one of the major cells involved in the wound healing process. The area was promptly treated with RJ at varying concentrations of 0.1, 1.0, or 5 mg/ml for up to 48 hrs and migration was analyzed by evaluating closure of the wound margins. Furthermore, altered levels of lipids, which were recently reported to participate in the wound healing process, were analyzed by HPTLC and HPLC. Migration of fibroblasts peaked at 24 hrs after wounding. RJ treatment significantly accelerated the migration of fibroblasts in a dose-dependent manner at 8 hrs. Although RJ also accelerated the migration of fibroblasts at both 20 hrs and 24 hrs after wounding, the efficacy was less potent than at 8 hrs. Among various lipid classes within fibroblasts, the level of cholesterol was significantly decreased at 8 hrs following administration of both 0.1 ug/ml and 5 mg/ml RJ. Despite a dose-dependent increase in sphinganines, the levels of sphingosines, ceramides, and glucosylceramides were not altered with any concentration of RJ. We demonstrated that RJ enhances the migration of fibroblasts and alters the levels of various lipids involved in the wound healing process.
A parallel Monte Carlo photon migration algorithm for graphics processing units that implements an improved load-balancing strategy is presented. Conventional parallel Monte Carlo photon migration algorithms suffer from a computational bottleneck due to their reliance on a simple load-balancing strategy that does not take into account the different length of the mean free paths of the photons. In this paper, path-partition load balancing is proposed to eliminate this computational bottleneck based on a mathematical formula that parallelizes the photon path tracing process, which has previously been considered non-parallelizable. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested using three-dimensional photon migration simulations of a human skin model.
In Dictyostelium , there are 15 Ras subfamilies, including 11 Ras, 3 Rap, 1 Rheb. The Ras proteins are involved in regulating various cell processes as switch proteins. The functions of many Ras proteins have been identified, but some of Ras proteins have not yet been identified. Here, we focused on identifying the roles of RasW among them. To investigate the functions of RasW in cell morphology, cell migration, and development in Dictyostelium , we compared the phenotypes of wild-type cells and rasW null cells. rasW null cells showed a larger, more spread-out morphology and reduced cell motility compared to wild-type cells. There was no significant difference between wild-type cells and rasW null cells during multicellular developmental process. These results suggest that RasW is involved in regulating cell morphology and cell migration in Dictyostelium.

Chemotactic migration of bone forming cell, osteoblast, is an important event during bone formation, bone remodeling, and fracture healing. Migration of cells is mediated by adhesion receptors, such as integrins, that link the cell to extracellular matrix ligands, type I collagen, fibronectin, laminin and depend on interaction between integrin and extracellular ligand. Our study was designed to investigate the effect of extracellular matrix like fibronectin, laminin, type I collagen on migration of osteoblast. Migration distance and speed of MC3T3-E1 cell on extracellular matrix-coated glass were measured for 24 hours using 0.01% type I collagen, 0.01% fibronectin, 100 microliter/ml laminin. The migration distance and speed of MC3T3-E1 cell was compared using a video-microscopy system. To determine migration speed, cells were viewed with a 4 phase- contrast lens and video recorded. Images were captured using a color CCD camera and saved in 8-bit full-color mode. The migration distance on 0.01% type I collagen or 0.01% fibronectin was longer than that on $100{\mu}l/ml$ laminin-coated glass. The migration speed on fibronectin-coated glass was 68 micrometer/hour which was fastest. The migration speed on type I collagen-coated glass was similar with that on fibronectin-coated glass. The latter two migration speeds were faster than that on no-coated glass. On the other hand, the average migration speed on laminin-coated glass was 37micrometer/hour and not different from that of control group. In conclusion, the extracelluar matrix ligands such as type I collagen and fibronectin seem to play an important role in cell migration. The type I collagen or fibronectin coated scaffold is more effective for migration of osteoblast in tissue engineering process.
