  • The prensent study was aimed to explore the reality of the low-income consumers problem by the comparison among five income classes. Specifically, this study was intended to (1) compare the levels of consumer skill, market risk, and consumer problem among the five income classes, (2) examine the relationship between consumer problem and consumer skill, and the relationship between consumer problem and market risk, and (3) search the types of consumer problems that each income class consumers might experience the most often. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using questionaire on 525 home managers in Seoul. The deta were analyzed by ANOVA and DMR test. The major findings were as follows; First, the consumer skill was the poorest in the low-income consumers. There was curvilinear relationship between consumer skill and income level. Second, the market risk was the highest in the low-income consumers. Market risk had a negative linear relationship with income level. Third, consumer problem was the most serious in the low-income consumers and was the least serious in the middle-income consumers. Fourth, the lower consumer skill and the higher market risk the consumers had, the more consumer problems they tended to experience. Finally, the low-income consumers had relatively more difficulties in door-to-door sale and inferior goods problem than the middle and the high-income consumers. On the other hand, the latter experienced relatively more difficulties in false and misleading advertising, overcharge, unfair bargain, and warrenty-repair-exchange problem than the former. Taken together, the research hypotheses were well supported in this study. It was suggested that the quality and the quantity of the low-income consumers problem were different from those of the middle-and the high-income consumers problem.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of Home Economics Instruction applying Flipped and Problem-Based Learning (FPBL) on Korean middle-school students' metacognition skill. The study uses a pre-post design test of the same group. There were 151 participants (77 male and 74 female) who were middle-school students in the third grade. Two hours of classes on 'Food Selection and Storage' were given per week for three weeks - a total of six hours. Analysis using the t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test, supporting the conclusion that participating in the class improved the metacognition, food selection, and storage behavior scores of the middle-school students. All area scores and overall averages of metacognitive sub-elements such as planning, monitoring, regulation, and evaluation also improved after taking FPBL classes. From the results of this study, Home Economics Instruction applying FPBL is an effective teaching method for improving middle-school students' metacognition.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to construct a structural model for explaining mental health status in middle - aged women. Methods: The data was collected by self - reported questionnaires from 206 middle - aged women in Seoul. Data analysis was done with the SAS pc program for descriptive statistics and a PC - LISREL Program for finding the best fit model which assumes causal relationships among variables. Results: The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was good, but paths and variables of the model were modified by considering theoretical implications and statistical significances of parameter estimates. Thus it was modified by excluding 3 paths, The modified model showed was good fit to the data($x^2=177.55$, p=.00), GFI=0.908, AGFI=0.860, RMR=0.013, NFI=0.972, NNFI=0.982). Perceived stress, anger expression method, and self -esteem were found to have direct effects on mental health status in middle - aged women. These predictive variables of mental health status explained $66.6\%$ of the model. Conclusion: Programs to enhance mental health status in middle - aged women should include stress management skill, anger expression skill, and self -esteem enhancement skills to be effective.

  • For the increasingly complicated and technology dependent 21st century, ICT literacy is being emphasized by education authorities as a key ability needed to succeed in a knowledge-based society. Accordingly, since 2007, several studies have been conducted to measure the ICT literacy levels of students. This study aimed at analyzing how ICT literacy levels vary according to students' skill sets from the viewpoint of educational convenience. To fulfill this goal, the ICT literacy abilities of 167 elementary students and 159 middle school students (all receiving education at "gifted students" education centers) were compared with the following results. First, elementary students displayed differences with regards to 'computer and network' and 'information society and ethics' among the content elements, and 'critical mind' and 'information communication' among capability elements according to their skill sets. Second, middle school students displayed differences with regards to 'information society and ethics' and 'information organization and creation' elements according to their skill sets. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it measured the ICT literacy levels of --and made suggestions for education to-- students specially gifted in information, science and mathematics rather than general students.
