(2) the experienced life events concerning parent, violence, and death in pre-adulthood effect on psychological well-being in mid adulthood. Also, the received emotional support and informational support in pre-adulthood influence on psychological well-being in mid adulthood. And there were adjusting effects of life events concerning parent and received informational support in pre-adulthood on the psychological well-being in mid adulthood. These findings support life course perspective that past experiences have cumulative and interconnected effect and the individual life was closely connected with other people having meaningful relationships. Also, the intervention on psychological well-being requires not only prevent life events but augment social support that can protect after experience of life events. The intervention should suggest suitable and specific method on life events.
The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of depression in housewives and to analyze the effects of psychosocial factors on the depression. Especially the focus was on the differences in the degree of depression and the influencing factors on depression between those in early adulthood and those in middle adulthood The subjects consisted of 130 early adulthood housewives and 142 middled adulthood housewives. They asked to complete several self-report measures that were used to assess the variables of interest. The result indicated that the depression in housewives were serious enough to arouse social workers' attention. The average housewives were suffered from mild depression, and 17.1% of the housewives were in need of professional treatment. There was no significant difference in the degree of depression between the early adulthood housewives and the middle adulthood housewives. There were, however, differences in the factors which explain and predict the depression between these two groups. The results of step-wise multiple regression analysis indicated that the factors which predict the depression for the early adulthood housewives were self-esteem, conflict with the spouse, experience of painful events, age, and conflict with the children. On the other hand, the factors which predict the depression for the middle adulthood housewives were self-esteem, conflict with the spouse, job, and income. Implications of the findings for social work interventions were discussed.

This qualitative case study examines how mid-life housewives perceive age, react to aging, and experience the changing of their appearance that comes with age. The participants of this study were eight housewives four full-time housewives and four working housewives in middle adulthood. This study was conducted through in-depth interviews that were based on an unstructured questionnaire, and the data was collected from January 2010 to October 2010. Findings are as follows: during mid-life, housewives continue to exert efforts toward self-development, and toward self-actualization that can unleash the potential of their "multi-self". The housewives of the Entering Middle Adulthood self-actualization period believe that the material self as manifested in appearance is the most important component of the multi-self. Indeed, both groups of housewives thought a great deal about the criterion of appearance for their age and were concerned about others' viewpoints, social stereotypes, the appearance "norm," and other characteristics related to appearance. The full-time housewives made efforts to improve their social selves, and the working housewives tried to enhance their spiritual selves. The viewpoints of husbands are often internalized into housewives' internal points of view; therefore the relationships of housewives with their husbands were crucial both to the confidence the women felt in their appearance, and to their satisfaction in life.
This study is aimed to examine effects of sociodemographic, social relation, and health related factors on risky drinking among early, middle, and older adulthoods. Using the sixth(2013-2016) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, separate logistic regression analyses were conducted for women's early adulthood (n=1,143), middle adulthood (n=1,306), and older adulthood (n=875) to test factors associated with risky drinking. For study results, as for women's early adulthood, education, marital status, employment, depressive feeling, and smoking were statistically associated with risky drinking. As for women's middle adulthood, only subjective stress level and smoking were associated with risky drinking. As for women's older adulthood, education, suicidal ideation, and subjective health condition were associated with risky drinking. These results found different factors influenced risky drinking according to life stages. Based on these results, convergent implications about reducing risky drinking according to life stages of women were discussed.
Objective : Low back pain (LBP) is a global health problem that affects the productivity of the patients. Several factors such as individual, occupational, and psychosocial factors increase the risk of LBP. However, only a few studies investigated those factors, especially in middle adulthood in Indonesia. Indonesia is a country with a young population that has been rapidly developing in recent years. This study was conducted to find out the factors associated with LBP in middle adulthood. Methods : This study is a cross-sectional observational analytic study using a convenience sampling method with a total sample of 3005 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire which was then analyzed using the chi-square test, Kolmogorov-smirnov, Spearman's Rank, and logistic regression test. Results : From the result of this study, it was found that the 12-month prevalence of LBP in middle-aged adults was 44,29%. Female (odds ratio [OR], 1.3; 95% confidence interval [Cl], 1.098-1.545; p=0.002), lack of physical exercises (OR, 0.87; 95% Cl, 0.794-0.959; p=0.005), high body mass index (OR, 1.09; 95% Cl, 1.009-1.187; p=0.002), stress level (OR, 1.26; 95% Cl, 1.088-1.458; p=0.002), and years of work experience (OR, 1.1; 95% Cl, 1.001-1.225; p=0.047) were determined as risk factors that significantly associated with LBP. Conclusion : LBP is quite common among middle-aged adults in Indonesia. Female gender, higher body mass index, lack of physical activity, stress level, and years of work experience were all potential risk factors for LBP in middle-aged adults. Middle-aged adults in Indonesia should be aware of LBP and avoid disabilities by identifying risk factors that may worsen LBP in the future.
Objectives : We aimed to explore weekend catch-up sleep (CUS) by age and to find out the association between CUS and depression by the age group and weekday sleep duration (SD). Methods : Using data from the 2016-2018 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the CUS by age of 16,174 subjects was investigated, and the depression data of 11,088 subjects were analyzed. CUS was calculated as the weekend sleep duration minus weekday sleep duration (SD). The mean of CUS and weekday SD in depression group and non-depression group was compared by early, middle, and late adulthood groups, and logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the effect of CUS on the depression by age group when weekday SD was insufficient. Results : The CUS tended to decrease continuously with age, the mean of CUS in the late adult group was the shortest. However, the average SD, adjusted for weekend CUS, was the shortest in the middle adulthood group. Overall, the sleep durations were shorter in the depression group than in the non-depression group, but the CUS difference between the two groups was significantly only in the middle adulthood. The risk of depression was significantly higher when weekend CUS was less than 1hour with a short weekday SD of less than 6hours (OR 2.44, 95% CI: 1.78-3.35), and this finding was significant in all adult groups. Conclusions : The findings of this study suggest that short weekday SD and inadequate weekend CUS are associated with depression and that CUS is an option to compensate for sleep deprivation and prevent depression.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors on mental health related quality of life (MHRQoL) in adults across the lifespan. Methods: A total of 688 Korean adults aged 19 years and older were selected. Data were collected by personal interviews or self report using structured questionnaires. For data analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression were used. Results: Mental health related quality of life (MHRQoL) differed significantly according to life cycle, especially showing a lower score in the elderly than others. In addition, elderly adulthood reported the highest stress and depression. The most significant predictors of MHRQoL in young and middle aged people were stress, depression, and subjective health status. Predictors of MHQoL in the elderly were stress and religion. Conclusion: The results indicate that MHRQoL of adult is associated with stress and depression. When the programs are developed to enhance mental health in elderly adulthood, religion should be considered as well as stress.
