  • This study investigated (1) the relation of aggressiveness to the outcome of conflict, intentional attribution, predicted response, and (2) friendship as a variable affecting intentional attribution and predicted response. The subjects are 78 fifth grade boys selected from a public elementary school located in Seoul. The children were individually tested by the researcher who read the items to the child. Dodge and Somberg's aggression questionnaire and Dodge and Frame's conflict outcome of ambiguosly intended stories were modified for use in this study. The instigator of aggression in the stories was classified as friend or non-friend and aggressive non-friend or nonaggressive non-friend. Two-way analyses of variance involving one between-subjects factor (aggression of subject) and one within-subjects factor (instigator combination) were performed on children's responses to three of the scales (hostile, neutral, positive). The results show that (1) there were differences in intentional attribution to the children's aggressiveness, regardless of the friendship status of the instigator, and (2) the predicted response to aggressiveness varied with type of instigator.

  • Xu Ling Tai (徐靈胎) was an outstanding medical practitioner in the early and middle part of the Cheong Dynasty of China (淸代). He had learned the study of Confucian classics and natural science from his childhood and read through books covering all sorts of fields, from medical science to hydraulics and literature. He was, in particular, one of leaders who represented the school of classicism that followed scriptures (尊經復古主義學派) in the field of medical science and his solid abstraction has had an affect on posterity's one. One of his masterpieces is Yi Xue Yuan Liu Lun (醫學源流論) among his books in the medical area.

  • Thomas Harriot has been introduced in middle school textbooks as a great mathematician who created the sign of inequality. This study is about Harriot's symbolism and the theory of equation. Harriot made symbols of mathematical concepts and operations and used the algebraic visual representation which were combinations of symbols. He also stated solving equations in numbers, canonical, and by reduction. His epoch-making inventions of algebraic equation using notation of operation and letters are similar to recent mathematical representation. This study which reveals Harriot's contribution to general and structural approach of mathematical solution shows many developments of algebra in 16th and 17th centuries from Viete to Harriot and from Harriot to Descartes.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the maintenance of an evaluation accreditation indicator according to child care center teachers' participation in decision making. The subjects of this study were 139 teachers from 12 accredited national, public, private, and corporate child care centers in Seoul and North Gyeongsang Province. The TIP-2 (Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale V.2) and Accreditation Indicator for Child Care Centers were used to measure teachers' participation in decision making and accreditation indicator maintenance. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and scheffe test were used for data analyses. The results revealed that the teachers who rated middle and high level in terms of their participation in decision-making showed higher levels of maintenance of the evaluation accreditation indicator than those with low levels of participation. This finding suggests that teachers' participation in decision making is an important factor for maintaining the quality of child care centers.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between social cognition (interpersonal problem-solving ability) and social competence. Subjects were 142 male and 148 female fifth graders randomly selected from two elementary schools located in Seoul and their fathers. The children and fathers were administered the Means-Ends Interpersonal Problem-Solving (MEPS) test and the Social Competence Scales based on Choi's inventory(1992). The results indicated significant positive correlations between two subvariables (capability and leadership) of social competence and MEPS. Girls showed significantly higher MEPS scores than boys in the variables of overall problem solving, effective problem solving, and dependent strategy.

  • This study investigated cross-informant measures of peer group victimization. The subjects were 460 children in the fifth and sixth grades. Children completed questionnaires that assessed their own victimization feelings of loneliness, and self-perception. They also completed peer nominations concerning peer acceptance and rejection. The results suggest that self-reported victimization is more predictive of loneliness and self-perception, whereas victimization from peer nominations is more predictive of peer rejection and acceptance.

  • Sialolithiasis is the formation of calcific concretions within the ductal system of major or minor salivary glands. The exact nature of sialolith evolution is not known. It may occur at any age but, it is most common in middle-aged adult and rare in childhood. In this paper, a case of sialolithiasis just beneath the mucosa in the anterior portion of the Wharton's duct observed in a 5-year old boy. It was approximately $2.5{\times}5$ mm in size and has no clinical symptoms. Under local anesthesia, it was removed by dilatation of orifice of the duct and pressure on the floor of oral cavity by finger.

  • Students' mathematics application ability is a hot spot which mathematics education pays attention. So, I have carried on the test of mathematics application and the questionnaire survey to student of Senior One of the two middle schools. Through the test and the investigation, I discover that the level of the students' mathematics application ability is not high. To the simple application question, the difference of the male and the female is not big, but to the difficult application question, the male and the female has the remarkable difference. The students' lack of flexible and the original cognition monitoring ability in mathematics application process are afraid of studying mathematics application since childhood and lack of the training of this aspect. They thought mathematics foundation and reading understood ability is the key of mathematics application. Through analysis result of investigation, this paper proposed the way to raise mathematics application ability of students.

  • The developmental self-knowledge from preschool to early adolescence was studied from a cognitive-structural perspective. Responses of the subjects to the question "Who am I?" were analyzed by means of a 29-category scoring system. The question was administered to 250 boys and 229 girls from kindergartens, elementary schools and middle schools in Seoul. One way-ANOVA and Duncan test were utilized for the statistical analysis. The major findings of the present study showed that with increasing age there was (1) a significant increase and diversification of self-knowledge. (2) an individual's self-knowledge became more abstract and less concrete, and (3) self-descriptions shifted from the physical to the psychological self.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate developmental trends and relationships between justice and friendship. Four different interviews were administered individually to fifty 4-to 8-year old children. In the Justice domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions devised to investigate the children's understanding of justice and a hypothetical story dilemma based on Damon(1977). In the friendship domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions based on Bigelow(1975; 1977) and Damon(1977) and a hypothetical story dillema based on Selman(1981). The developmental stage of each concept was determined through content analysis of the responses each child. Statistical analysis of obtained data was by percentage and Goodman-Kruskal's ${\gamma}$. * The results showed that children's conceptions of justice and of friendship developed in an age-related manner during early and middle childhood. While there was a significant correlation between children's conceptions of justice and friendship, this result was due to age-relatedness. The results of the present study support a domain specific approach to social cognition.
