Recently, low-temperature atmospheric-pressure plasmas have been investigated [1,2] for biomedical applications and surface treatments. Experiments for improving hydrophilicity of stainless steel (SUS 304) plate with atmospheric microwave argon and H2O2 mixture plasma jet [3] were carried out and experimental measurements and plasma simulations were conducted for investigating the characteristics of plasma for the process. After 30 s of low power (under 10 W) and low temperature (under $50^{\circ}C$) plasma treatment, the water contact angle decreased rapidly to around $10^{\circ}$ from $75^{\circ}$ and was maintained under $30^{\circ}$ for a day (24 hours). The surface free energy, calculated from the contact angles, increased. The chemical properties of the surface were examined by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and the surface morphology and roughness were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) respectively. The characteristics of plasma sources with several frequencies were investigated by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) measurement and one-dimensional Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulation and zero-dimensional global simulation [4]. The relation between plasma components and the efficacy of the surface modification were discussed.

Nanocrystalline diamond(NCD) coated aluminium plates were prepared and applied as heat sinks for LED modules. NCD films were deposited on 1 mm thick Al plates for times of 2 - 10 h in a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition reactor. Deposition parameters were the microwave power of 1.2 kW, the working pressure of 90 Torr, the $CH_4/Ar$ gas ratio of 2/200 sccm. In order to enhance diamond nucleation, DC bias voltage of -90 V was applied to the substrate during deposition without external heating. NCD film was identified by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The Al plates with about 300 nm thick NCD film were attached to LED modules and thermal analysis was carried out using Thermal Transient Tester (T3ster) in a still air box. Thermal resistance of the module with NCD/Al plate was 3.88 K/W while that with Al plate was 5.55 K/W. The smaller the thermal resistance, the better the heat emission. From structure function analysis, the differences between junction and ambient temperatures were $12.1^{\circ}C$ for NCD/Al plate and $15.5^{\circ}C$ for Al plate. The hot spot size of infrared images was larger on NCD/Al than Al plate for a given period of LED operation. In conclusion, NCD coated Al plate exhibited better thermal spreading performance than conventional Al heat sink.

Graphite electrodes are used for secondary batteries, fuel cells, and super capacitors. Research is underway to increased the reaction area of graphite electrodes used carbon nanotube (CNT) and porous carbon. CNT is limited to device utilization in order to used a metal catalyst by lack of surface area to improve. In contrast carbon nanowall (CNW) is chemically very stable. So this paper, microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system was used to grow carbon nanowall (CNW) on Si substrate with methane ($CH_4$) and hydrogen ($H_2$) gases. To find the growth properties of CNW according to the reaction gas ratio, we have changed the methane to hydrogen gas ratios (4:1, 2:1, 1:2, and 1:4). The vertical and surficial conditions of the grown CNW according to the gas ratios were characterized by a field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Raman spectroscopy measurements showed structure variations.

The phase evolution, microstructure, and microwave dielectric properties of $Ba(Mg_{0.5-2x}Y_{2x}W_{0.5-x}Ti_x)O_3$ (x = 0.005~0.05) ceramics sintered at $1,700^{\circ}C$ for 1h were investigated. All compositions exhibited a 1:1 ordered cubic perovskite structure. The field emission scanning electron microscopy image revealed a dense microstructure in all the compositions. As the value of x increased, the lattice parameter, dielectric constant, and quality factor increased. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency changed from $-19.6ppm/^{\circ}C$ to $-5.9ppm/^{\circ}C$ with increasing x value. The dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency of $Ba(Mg_{0.40}Y_{0.10}W_{0.45}Ti_{0.05})O_3$ were 21.7, 132,685 GHz, and $-5.9ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

We prepared a highly sensitive hydrogen (H2) sensor based on Indium oxides (In2O3) porous nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with Platinum (Pt) nanoparticle in the range of 1.6~5.7 at.%. In2O3 NPs were fabricated by microwave irradiation method, and decorations of Pt nanoparticles were performed by electroless plating on In2O3 NPs. Crystal structures, morphologies, and chemical information on Pt-loaded In2O3 NPs were characterized by grazing-incident X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, respectively. The effect of the Pt nanoparticles on the H2-sensing performance of In2O3 NPs was investigated over a low concentration range of 5 ppm of H2 at 150-300 ℃ working temperatures. The results showed that the H2 response greatly increased with decreasing sensing temperature. The H2 response of Pt loaded porous In2O3 NPs is higher than that of pristine In2O3 NPs. H2 gas selectivity and high sensitivity was explained by the extension of the electron depletion layer and catalytic effect. Pt loaded porous In2O3 NPs sensor can be a robust manner for achieving enhanced gas selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of H2.

We have investigated the trace amount in an oriental medicine in oder to determine the geographical origin by using inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES) and chemometric anlysis with principal component analysis(PCA) and pattern recognition. Astragali Radix from several agricultural places in Korea was selected as an example of the oriental medicine and analyzed by ICP-AES. The dried Astragali Radix sample was treated with $HNO_3$ and $H_2O_2$, then digested using microwave oven. Elements such as Mg, Al, K, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Ba with different concentrations were found an used for the identification of the origin of agriculture places. Especially, the concentration of Al, Fe, Zn and Ti were employed to investigate the relationship between. Astragali Radix and the agricultural places by PCA and pattern recognition. We have made a program that is based on chemometrics in analytical spectroscopy. The results of the chemometrics analysis indicated that a distinction among Yechon and Chechon, Chungson, Kurye and Chinese Astragali Radix could be made. We believe that principal component analysis(PCA) and pattern recognition is a valuable tool to identify the origin of Astragali Radix in terms of the agricultural place.

Recently, the event of slope failure has been occurring frequently due to rapid climate changes and broad development of infrastructures, and the research for establishment of monitoring and prevention system has been an attentive issue. The major influence factors of slope failure mechanism can be considered moisture and temperature in soil, and the slope failure can be monitored and predicted through the trend of moisture-temperature change. Therefore, the combined sensing technology for the continuous measurement of moisture-temperature with different soil depths is needed for the slope monitoring system. The various independent sensors for each item (i.e. temperature and moisture respectively) have been developed, however, the research for development of combined sensing system has been hardly carried out. In this study, the high-fidelity sensor combing temperature-moisture measurement by using the minimized current consuming temperature circuit and the microwave emission moisture sensor is developed and applied on the slope failure monitoring system. The feasibility of developed monitoring system is verified by various experimental approaches such as standard performance test, mockup test and long-term field test. As a result, the developed temperature-moisture combined measurement system is verified to be measuring and monitoring the temperature and moisture in soil accurately.
Okamoto cavity was modified to generate high power (2.45 GHz, 2 kW) He, N2 and Ar plasmas with WR-340 waveguide. Many factors which influence to the plasma generation were optimized and investigated for the spectroscopic properties of the He plasma generated. Some of the important factors are the diameter of the inner conductor, the distance between the inner and outer conductors and the distance between the tip of the inner conductor and the torch. After optimization for the He, two torches (a commercial mini torch for ICP and a tangential flow torch made locally) were compared and showed similar results for the helium plasma gas flow of 25 L/min~30 L/min. A tall torch (extended) was used to block the air in-flow and reduced the background intensity at 340 nm region (NH band). Emission intensity was measured for determination of halogen element in the aqueous solution with power and carrier gas flow rate. Electron number density and the excitation temperature were on the order of $3.67{\times}10^{11}/cm^3$ and 4,350 K, respectively. These values are similar or a bit smaller than other microwave plasmas. It has been possible to analyze aqueous samples. The detection limit for Cl (479.45 nm) was obtained to be 116 mg/L and needs analytical optimization for the better performance.

The best part of graphene is - charge-carriers in it are mass less particles which move in near relativistic speeds. Comparing to other materials, electrons in graphene travel much faster - at speeds of $10^8cm/s$. A graphene sheet is pure enough to ensure that electrons can travel a fair distance before colliding. Electronic devices few nanometers long that would be able to transmit charge at breath taking speeds for a fraction of power compared to present day CMOS transistors. Many researches try to check a possibility to make it a perfect replacement for silicon based devices. Graphene has shown high potential to be used as interconnects in the field of high frequency electrical devices. With all those advantages of graphene, we demonstrate characteristics of electrical and optical properties of graphene such as the effect of graphene geometry on the microwave properties using the measurements of S-parameter in range of 500 MHz - 40 GHz at room temperature condition. We confirm that impedance and resistance decrease with increasing the number of graphene layer and w/L ratio. This result shows proper geometry of graphene to be used as high frequency interconnects. This study also presents the optical properties of graphene oxide (GO), which were deposited in different substrate, or influenced by oxygen plasma, were confirmed using different characterization techniques. 4-6 layers of the polycrystalline GO layers, which were confirmed by High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and electron diffraction analysis, were shown short range order of crystallization by the substrate as well as interlayer effect with an increase in interplanar spacing, which can be attributed to the presence of oxygen functional groups on its layers. X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy confirms the presence of the $sp^2$ and $sp^3$ hybridization due to the disordered crystal structures of the carbon atoms results from oxidation, and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and XPS analysis shows the changes in oxygen functional groups with nature of substrate. Moreover, the photoluminescent (PL) peak emission wavelength varies with substrate and the broad energy level distribution produces excitation dependent PL emission in a broad wavelength ranging from 400 to 650 nm. The structural and optical properties of oxygen plasma treated GO films for possible optoelectronic applications were also investigated using various characterization techniques. HRTEM and electron diffraction analysis confirmed that the oxygen plasma treatment results short range order crystallization in GO films with an increase in interplanar spacing, which can be attributed to the presence of oxygen functional groups. In addition, Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and Raman spectroscopy confirms the presence of the $sp^2$ and $sp^3$ hybridization due to the disordered crystal structures of the carbon atoms results from oxidation and XPS analysis shows that epoxy pairs convert to more stable C=O and O-C=O groups with oxygen plasma treatment. The broad energy level distribution resulting from the broad size distribution of the $sp^2$ clusters produces excitation dependent PL emission in a broad wavelength range from 400 to 650 nm. Our results suggest that substrate influenced, or oxygen treatment GO has higher potential for future optoelectronic devices by its various optical properties and visible PL emission.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are attractive material because of their superior electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Furthermore, their geometric features such as a large aspect ratio and a small radius of curvature at tip make them ideal for low-voltage field emission devices including backlight units of liquid crystal display, lighting lamps, X-ray source, microwave amplifiers, electron microscopes, etc. In field emission devices for display applications, the phosphor anode is positioned against the CNT emitters. In most case, light generated from the phosphor by electron bombardment passes through the anode front plate to reach observers. However, light is produced in a narrow depth of the surface of the phosphor layer because phosphor particles are big as much as several micrometers, which means that it is necessary to transmit through the phosphor layer. Hence, a drop of light intensity is unavoidable during this process. In this study, we fabricated a transparent cathode back plate by depositing an ultra-thin film of single walled CNTs (SWCNTs) on an indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate. Two types of phosphor anode plates were employed to our transparent cathode back plate: One is an ITO glass substrate with a phosphor layer and the other is a Cr-coated glass substrate with phosphor layer. For the former case, light was radiated from both the front and the back sides, where luminance on the back was ~30% higher than that on the front in our experiments. For the other case, however, light was emitted only from the cathode back side as the Cr layer on the anode glass rolled as a reflecting mirror, improving the light luminance as much as ~60% compared with that on the front of one. This study seems to be discussed about the morphologies and field emission characteristics of CNT emitters according to the experimental parameters in fabricating the lamps emitting light on the both sides or only on the cathode back side. The experimental procedures are as follows. First, a CNT aqueous solution was prepared by ultrasonically dispersing purified SWCNTs in deionized water with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). A milliliter or even several tens of micro-liters of CNT solution was deposited onto a porous alumina membrane through vacuum filtration. Thereafter, the alumina membrane was solvated with the 3 M NaOH solution and the floating CNT film was easily transferred to an ITO glass substrate. It is required for CNT film to make standing CNTs up to serve as electron emitter through an adhesive roller activation.
