  • A micromechanical model for predicting the elastic constants of stitched multi-axial warp knitted (MWK) composite is developed. The averaging method is used to obtain effective properties of stitched MWK fabric composites. In the analysis, a representative volume of the MWK fabric composite is identified. The geometric limitations, effects of stitching yarns and design parameters of MWK fabric composites are considered in the model. Then, the elastic properties of stitched MWK fabric composites are predicted. Finally, the predicted elastic constants are validated by comparison with experimental data. The predicted results are in fair agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this article, the buckling responses of functionally graded curved (spherical, cylindrical, hyperbolic and elliptical) shell panels under elevated temperature load are investigated numerically using finite element steps. The effective material properties of the functionally graded shell panel are evaluated using Voigt's micromechanical model through the power-law distribution with and without temperature dependent properties. The mathematical model is developed using the higher-order shear deformation theory in conjunction with Green-Lagrange type nonlinear strain to consider large geometrical distortion under thermal load. The efficacy of the proposed model has been checked and the effects of various geometrical and material parameters on the buckling load are analysed in details.

  • In this paper Timoshenko beam theory is employed to investigate the vibration characteristics of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) Beams with a stiff core in thermal environment. The material characteristic of carbon nanotubes (CNT) are supposed to change in the thickness direction in a functionally graded form. They can also be calculated through a micromechanical model where the CNT efficiency parameter is determined by matching the elastic modulus of CNTRCs calculated from the rule of mixture with those gained from the molecular dynamics simulations. The differential transform method (DTM) which is established upon the Taylor series expansion is one of the effective mathematical techniques employed to the differential governing equations of sandwich beams. Effects of carbon nanotube volume fraction, slenderness ratio, core-to-face sheet thickness ratio, different thermal environment and various boundary conditions on the free vibration characteristics of FG-CNTRC sandwich beams are studied. It is observed that vibration response of FG-CNTRC sandwich beams is prominently influenced by these parameters.

  • In this article, nonlinear free vibration behaviour of functionally graded spherical panel is analysed. A nonlinear mathematical model is developed based on higher order shear deformation theory for shallow shell by taking Green-Lagrange type of nonlinear kinematics. The material properties of functionally graded material are assumed to be varying continuously in transverse direction and evaluated using Voigt micromechanical model in conjunction with power-law distribution. The governing equation of the shell panel is obtained using Hamilton's principle and discretised with the help of nonlinear finite element method. The desired responses are evaluated through a direct iterative method. The present model has been validated by comparing the frequency ratio (nonlinear frequency to linear frequency) with those available published literatures. Finally, the effect of geometrical parameters (curvature ratio, thickness ratio, aspect ratio and support condition), power law indices and amplitude of vibration on the frequency ratios of spherical panel have been discussed through numerical experimentations.

  • The thermal buckling temperature values of the graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite shell structure is explored using higher-order mid-plane kinematics and multiscale constituent modeling under two different thermal fields. The critical values of buckling temperature including the effect of in-plane thermal loading are computed numerically by minimizing the final energy expression through a linear isoparametric finite element technique. The governing equation of the multiscale nanocomposite is derived via the variational principle including the geometrical distortion through Green-Lagrange strain. Additionally, the model includes different grading patterns of nanotube through the panel thickness to improve the structural strength. The reliability and accuracy of the developed finite element model are varified by comparison and convergence studies. Finally, the applicability of present developed model was highlight by enlighten several numerical examples for various type shell geometries and design parameters.

  • In the present work, the flutter characteristics of porous nanocomposite cylindrical shells, reinforced with graphene platelets (GPLs) in supersonic airflow, have been investigated. Different distributions for GPLs and porosities have been considered which are named uniform and non-uniform distributions thorough the shell's thickness. The effective material properties have been determined via Halpin-Tsai micromechanical model. The cylindrical shell formulation considering supersonic airflow has been developed in the context of first-order shell and first-order piston theories. The governing equations have been solved using Galerkin's method to find the frequency-pressure plots. It will be seen that the flutter points of the shell are dependent on the both amount and distribution of porosities and GPLs and also shell geometrical parameters.

  • The main objective of the present paper is to investigate the nonlinear vibration of buckled beams fixed at both ends and made of Aluminium allay (Al-alloy) reinforced with randomly dispersed Single Walled Carbon Nanotube (SWNT). The Mori-Tanak (M-T) micromechanical approach is selected to predict the homogenized material properties of the beams. The differential equation of motion governing the nonlinear behavior of the Euler-Bernoulli homogeneous beam is solved using an analytical method. The influences of diverse parameters including axial load, vibration amplitude, SWNT volume fraction, SWNT aspect ratio and beam slenderness ratio on the nonlinear frequency are studied.

  • This article covenants with the post buckling witticism of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam supported with an elastic foundation in thermal atmospheres with arbitrary assumed random system properties. The arbitrary assumed random system properties are be modeled as uncorrelated Gaussian random input variables. Unvaryingly distributed (UD) and functionally graded (FG) distributions of the carbon nanotube are deliberated. The material belongings of CNTRC beam are presumed to be graded in the beam depth way and appraised through a micromechanical exemplary. The basic equations of a CNTRC beam are imitative constructed on a higher order shear deformation beam (HSDT) theory with von-Karman type nonlinearity. The beam is supported by two parameters Pasternak elastic foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. The thermal dominance is involved in the material properties of CNTRC beam is foreseen to be temperature dependent (TD). The first and second order perturbation method (SOPT) and Monte Carlo sampling (MCS) by way of CO nonlinear finite element method (FEM) through direct iterative way are offered to observe the mean, coefficient of variation (COV) and probability distribution function (PDF) of critical post buckling load. Archetypal outcomes are presented for the volume fraction of CNTRC, slenderness ratios, boundary conditions, underpinning parameters, amplitude ratios, temperature reliant and sovereign random material properties with arbitrary system properties. The present defined tactic is corroborated with the results available in the literature and by employing MCS.
