  • In the microcell- or picocell-based system the frequent movements of the mobile bring about excessive traffics into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi- path and shadowing. In this paper we study a novel scheme which can increase estimation accuracy by considering NLOS environment

  • The increment of user at mobile communication system requires the need of increased system capacity. To increase the system capacity can be realized by decreasing the size of cell. But, this method causes various problems. Therefore, it be used the hierarchical cellular system with macrocell and microcell for a efficient working. The users feel more inconvenience about the drop of connected call than the block of new call. Therefore, it is to be desired that the dropping rate of handoff call is lowered. At this paper, we use non reversible hierarchical scheme and fixed channel assignment scheme at the hierarchical cellular system with macrocell and microcell for the call process strategy. We analyze the system performance in accordance with the number of guard channel for handoff.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze two adaptive channel allocation schemes for supporting multimedia traffics in hierarchical cellular systems. It is guaranteed to satisfy the required quality of service of multimedia traffics according to their characteristics such as a mobile velocity for voice calls and a delay tolerance for multimedia calls. In the scheme 1, only slow-speed voice calls are allowed to overflow from macrocell to microcell and only adaptive multimedia calls can overflow from microcell to macrocell after reducing its bandwidth to the minimum channel bandwidth. In the scheme II, in addition to the first scheme, non-adaptive multimedia calls can occupy the required channel bandwidth through reducing the channel bandwidth of adaptive multimedia calls. The proposed scheme I is analyzed using 2-dimensional Markov model. Through computer simulations, the analysis model and the proposed schemes are compared with the fixed system and two previous studies. In the simulation result, it is shown that the proposed schemes yield a significant improvement in terms of the forced termination probability of handoff calls and the efficiency of channel usage.

  • This paper discusses solutions for forward link power allocation based on 3GPP(FDD) standardization reports and which meet the required Eb/No of forward link channels. In addition, the forward link user capacity in a mixed service environment. Cell coverage is induced from the user capacity solutions using the urban propagation model. In an urban macrocell environment, the forward link user capacity turns out to be roughly 29 and 3, respectively, for voice and data service (144 kbps) at a distance of 1 km, and in an urban microcell environment, the user capacity turns out to be Toughly 14, 4, and 2, respectively, for voice and two data services (144 kbps, 384 kbps) when the cell radius is 0.2 km.

  • In high frequency environment such as microcell, it is requried to adopt a new method different from the empirical channel modeling applied in macrocell. In this thesis, measurement for residential area in Sinrimdong and the result of the simulation are compared and analyzed. Simulation technique utilizes 3D ray launching method to consider some factors which were not included in the ray tracing method. Propagation environment in the urban area shows the typical channel characterisitics of the propagation environment. Using 3D ray launching method, pathloss of the wave and delay characteristics of the signal with respect to the height of the transmitter is researched. If the transmitter is located on the top of the building, radiowave experiences diffraction on the rooftop and it influences the total received signal strength.

  • In this paper, we proposed separate queue scheme in each hierarchical cell for effective use of wireless channel. This method reduces the blocking rata of high speed mobile station's handoff in hierarchical cellular systems. Basically for the high speed mobile stations channels are allocated in macrocell and for the low speed mobile stations channels are allocated in microcell. In order to reduce the rate of forced handoff termination, some reservation channels are employed for the fast handoff calls in the macrocells. And the queue is located in each cell to be able to store handoff requests and takeback requests. The overflowed mobile station are able to perform takeback as soon as a corresponding channel is available.

  • Recent construction activities and maintenance of marine facilities have been accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth in Korea. Marine concrete structures are to salts and chloride from ocean environments. The corrosion of reinforcement steel caused by chloride-penetration into concrete may severely affect the durability of concrete structures. the objective of this research is to develop a durable concrete by investigating the resistance of various corrosion protection systems utilizing different water/cement ratio, silica fumes, corrosion inhibitors, etc. A two-year verification test on various corrosion protection system has been doing in the laboratory. Corrosion investigations on reinforcement steel are now under progress for more than 63 concrete specimen. Corrosion-related measurements include microcell corrosion current.

  • A prediction model is proposed to describe the path loss in propagation environment of indoor microcell. This model includes the lineal corridor for line--of-sight(LOS) and T-shaped corridor for non-line-of-sight(NLOS). In computation of receiving power the ray tracing technique based on image method is utilized and also reflected waves bounced on the walls and ceilings are considered. To check validity of the computed resuls cross checks between the predicted and measured are being made, which shows a close agreement for LOS case whereas somewhat disagreement for NLOS case. UTD technique is incorporated with propagation path determination algorithm in the treatment of NLOS case.
