A Study on the Effectiveness of IoT Coding Education Using Microbit (마이크로비트(MicroBit)를 활용한 IoT코딩 교육 효과성에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we compared and analyzed the Arduino-based IoT coding environment, which is most frequently used in OSHW, and the microbit-based IoT coding environment developed and spread in the UK. The results show that a microbit-based educational environment can offer a variety of benefits. Although the basic problems are defined and compared, many differences occur. Microbit-based environment has less overhead than Arduino-based environment, which is effective for IoT coding education.

  • In the case of Java programming education for non-major undergraduates, there are no examples of applying the physical computing education method. The advantage of physical computing education is that you can directly check the SW processing output result according to the input value of digital and analog sensor, so that you can quickly correct programming errors and improve learner's learning interest and satisfaction. In this paper, we use the microbits to combine physical computing education with basic Java programming education. In addition, according to the computational thinking process, we proposed an educational method for creating Java programs using microbits. Through block programming to control the microbits, we designed an algorithm and applied a training method to convert it into a Java program. In addition, the results of students' evaluations were analyzed in the course applying the education method, and the effectiveness of the education method using the microbit was analyzed.

  • Despite the increasing rate of use of data science in various fields of society, research on data science education programs is relatively inadequate. In this study, a data science education program for elementary school students was developed and its effectiveness was verified. We created a program that collects data using microbit, one of the physical computing tools, and developed an education program that performs the data science stage of analyzing the collected data to derive results. A study was conducted on 10 students enrolled in the Information Gifted Program at 00 University, and pre- and post-tests of computing thinking skills were conducted to verify the effectiveness. As a result, it was found that the data science education program developed through this study has a significant effect on improving the computational thinking of elementary school students.

  • This study attempted to develop and apply a physical computing SW education program applying design thinking. The produced SW education program was applied to 22 students in the 5th and 6th grades of J and B elementary schools located in Jeju-si. Computational thinking ability and creativity pre-test was conducted, and Physical computing software training applied design thinking was conducted over a total of 5 sessions for 20 hours, followed by a post-test on creativity and computational thinking ability. As a result of the verification, it was found that physical computing SW education program applying design thinking was effective in improving the creativity and computing thinking ability of elementary school students.

An Education Method of Java SW Designs for IoT Wireless Device Control using Microbits (마이크로비트를 이용한 IoT 무선 디바이스 제어용 Java SW설계 교육 방법)

  • SW which controls IoT devices using wireless communication technology must operate without errors. In order for IoT devices to be widely used, the technical skills of engineers who design such software must be improved. Compared to designing the input / output SW of a single device, the SW Flowchart design and Java SW programming process that clearly define various input / output relations between the transmitter and the receiver are complicated. In this paper, we proposed a SW Flowchart design method for controlling IoT devices based on wireless communication. In this process, it is explained that the entire control algorithm is implemented through a problem division process. In addition, we proposed an educational method for programming the designed SW Flowchart into Java SW using Microbits, which are educational IoT devices. In the course to which this education method was applied, the results of satisfaction evaluation of students were analyzed, and the effectiveness of the IoT device control SW education method using Microbits was analyzed.

  • As the Ministry of Education has introduced AI education in earnest in the 2022 revised curriculum, there is growing sympathy for the need for data-related education along with AI education. In order to develop the competence to understand and utilize artificial intelligence properly, the understanding and utilization competence of data must be based on it. In this study, a data-driven problem solving SW education program using microbit was developed by synthesizing the results of demand analysis and previous research analysis. The data-driven problem solving education program was developed with educational elements that can be applied to elementary school students among the contents of data science. Through the program developed in this study, education that combines various topics and subjects can be linked based on real-life data. Furthermore, based on an understanding of data, it will lay the foundation for a more substantial AI education program.

  • With the introduction of AI education in the 2022 Revised Curriculum emphasizing the need for data related education, it is necessary to improve students' data based problem solving skills. This study seeks to study SW education methods to improve students' data based problem solving skills in accordance with these needs. Based on the ADDIE model, the demand analysis survey was conducted on teachers to analyze their needs. Based on the results of the demand analysis, we designed education programs under the theme of data based problem solving skills using microbit. In this study, we raise the importance of data based problem solving and the need for its capabilities. Subsequent studies need to reveal how data based problem solving SW education will demonstrate significant effects on problem solving skills.
