Allelic diversity of 44 microsatellite marker loci originated from the coding regions of specific genes or the non-coding regions of barley genome was analyzed for 19 barley genotypes. Multi-allelic variation was observed at the most of marker loci except for HVM13, HVM15, HVM22, and HVM64. The number of different alleles ranged from 2 to 12 with a mean of 4.0 alleles per micro-satellite. Twenty-one alleles derived from 10 marker loci are specific for certain genotypes. The level of polymorphism (Polymorphic Information Content, PIC) based on the band pattern frequencies among genotypes was relatively high at the several loci such as HVM3, HVM5, HVM14, HVM36, HVM62 and HVM67. In the cluster analysis using genetic similarity matrix calculated from microsatellite-derived DNA profiles, two major groups were classified and the spike-row type was a major factor for clustering. Correlation between genetic similarity matrices based on microsatellite markers and pedigree data was highly significant ($r=0.57^{**}$), but these two parameters were moderately associated each other. On the other hand, RAPD-based genetic similarity matrix was more highly associated with microsatellite-based genetic similarity ($r=0.63^{**}$) than coefficient of parentage.
The aim of this study was to construct a correct pedigree of miniature horses (MH). The sex of MH was detected by PCR amplification of the sex determining region of the Y chromosome gene (SRY) prior to parentage testing. Ten random MH samples for parentage testing were genotyped by using 16 micro satellite markers. Since the SRY band (430 bp) was detected in horses No.1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, these are male. However, the DNA segment was not identified in horses No.3, 4, and 5, which therefore are female. After genotyping, parentage testing was performed according to Mendelian fashion and International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) guideline. Of the 10 MH, 3 were qualified by the compatibility of 16 markers according to Mendelian fashion in the present DNA typing for parentage verification. These results can provide basic information for developing parentage verification and an individual identification system in MH.

In order to develop the specific genetic marker for Korean native cattle (Hanwoo), randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis of 6 different cattle breeds was attempted by using 38 decamer primers. In comparison of RAPD patterns, two distinctive DNA bands specific for Hanwoo were detected. One was 296 bp of DNA fragment found to be specific only for female Hanwoo when primer GTCCACACGG was employed. In individual analysis of this RAPD marker was observed only in female individuals with the possibility of $85.3\%$. The other was 521 bp of RAPD marker amplified using TCGGCGATAG and AGCCAGCGAA primers, which showed $83.0\%$ of genetic frequency in 85 male and 68 female individuals tested. Nucleotide sequencing of these genetic markers revealed that 296 bp marker has a short micro satellite-like sequence, ACCACCACAC, and a tandem repeat sequence of microsatellite GAAAAATG in the determined sequence. Two distinctive tandem repeats of microsatellite sequences, MC and GAAGA, were also appeared in 521 bp DNA marker. In BLAST search, any gene having high homology with these markers was not found.

The electric coupling between the lithosphere and the ionosphere is examined. The electric field is considered as a timevarying irregular vertical Coulomb field presumably produced on the Earth's surface before an earthquake within its epicentral zone by some micro-processes in the lithosphere. It is shown that the Fourier component of this electric field with a frequency of 500 Hz and a horizontal scale-size of 100 km produces in the nighttime ionosphere of high and middle latitudes a transverse electric field with a magnitude of ~20 mV/m if the peak value of the amplitude of this Fourier component is just 30 V/m. The time-varying vertical Coulomb field with a frequency of 500 Hz penetrates from the ground into the ionosphere by a factor of ${\sim}7{\times}10^5$ more efficient than a time independent vertical electrostatic field of the same scale size. The transverse electric field with amplitude of 20 mV/m will cause perturbations in the nighttime F region electron density through heating the F region plasma resulting in a reduction of the downward plasma flux from the protonosphere and an excitation of acoustic gravity waves.

This paper examines the capability of remote sensing technique for detecting and quantifying the foliar nutrients of oil palm crop. Study has been carried out in the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Research Station in Kluang Johore, Malaysia. Result of the study shows a strong relationship between measured foliar nutrient and the spectral reflectance measured using spectroradiometer. Model that has been developed can be used to estimate the nutrient concentration in the oil palm plantation at micro level and also at macro -level using appropriate satellite data.

The existing studies on the localization in the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) denied environment usually exploit low-cost MEMS IMU (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Inertial Measurement Unit) sensors to replace the GNSS signals. However, the navigation system still requires GNSS signals for the normal environment. This paper presents an integrated GNSS/INS (Inertial Navigation System) navigation system which combines GNSS and multiple IMU sensors using extended Kalman filter in partially GNSS-denied environments. The position and velocity of the INS and GNSS are used as the inputs to the integrated navigation system. The Mahalanobis distance is used for novelty detection to detect the outlier of GNSS measurements. When the abnormality is detected in GNSS signals, GNSS data is excluded from the fusion process. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a higher degree of positioning accuracy in the partially GNSS-denied environment.
A high-resolution camera is a precise optical system. Its vibrations during transportation and launch, together with changes in temperature and gravity field in orbit, lead to different degrees of defocus of the camera. Thermal refocusing is one of the solutions to the problems related to in-orbit defocusing, but there are few relevant thermal refocusing mathematical models for systematic analysis and research. Therefore, to further research thermal refocusing systems by using the development of a high-resolution micro-nano satellite (CX6-02) super-resolution camera as an example, we established a thermal refocusing mathematical model based on the thermal elasticity theory on the basis of the secondary mirror position. The detailed design of the thermal refocusing system was carried out under the guidance of the mathematical model. Through optical-mechanical-thermal integration analysis and Zernike polynomial calculation, we found that the data error obtained was about 1%, and deformation in the secondary mirror surface conformed to the optical index, indicating the accuracy and reliability of the thermal refocusing mathematical model. In the final ground test, the thermal vacuum experimental verification data and in-orbit imaging results showed that the thermal refocusing system is consistent with the experimental data, and the performance is stable, which provides theoretical and technical support for the future development of a thermal refocusing space camera.
This paper empirically analyzes determinants of DTV (Digital Television) adoption in household survey data with IT-related household demand characteristics. To this purpose, we conducted a survey for the adoption of DTV to 1,000 households nationwide. In the questionnaire, various questions asking socio-economics characteristics such as age, education, income were included. Also, status of adoption and usage of IT services such as paid broadcasting, internet, and DVD were asked. To analyze the determinants of intention of purchasing, decision of purchasing, and the timing of purchasing DTV, we adopted the ordered logit, binary logit and multinomial legit models. When there is an order among groups, ordered logit was employed and when there is no orders among groups, multinomial logit was emplyed for the estimation. It is found that when conditions of other explanatory variable are constant, the more educated household heads are, the more probable they become early adopters of DTV. It is also found that other conditions being constant, the income level of households and IT-related household demand characteristics are very important factors affecting DTV adoption. Since the likelihood of purchasing DTV is much higher for those who know the government policy of analog broadcasting termination schedule than others who do not know, dissemination of the Korean government's digital broadcasting policy will affect significantly the adoption of DTV. And policy with various incentives ought to be employed to accelerate DTV adoption, because households with the older TV sets are more likely to purchase DTV. It is suggested that the Korean government should develop policy to connect both DBS (Direct Broadcast Satellite) and DTV since DBS subscribers are more likely to be an early adopter than non-subscribers.

This paper addresses a newly proposed start-up method of the HAUSAT-2 momentum wheel. The HAUSAT-2 is a 25kg class nanosatellite which is stabilized to earth pointing by 3-axis active control method. A momentum wheel performs two functions. It provides a pitch-axis momentum bias while measuring satellite pitch and roll attitude. Pitch control is accomplished in the conventional way by driving a momentum wheel in response to pitch attitude errors. Precession control and nutation damping are provided by driving the pitch axis magnetic torquer. A momentum wheel is nominally spinning at a particular rate and changes speed. This simulation study investigates the feasibility and performance of a proposed strategy for starting-up the wheel. A proposed strategy to start-up the wheel shows that a pitch momentum wheel can be successfully started-up to its nominal speed from rest and be stabilized to nadir pointing.
The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) on board the Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite (COMS), the first geostationary ocean color sensor, requires accurate atmospheric correction since its eight bands are also affected by atmospheric constituents such as gases, molecules and atmospheric aerosols. Unlike gases and molecules in the atmosphere, aerosols can interact with sunlight by complex scattering and absorption properties. For the purpose of qualified ocean remote sensing, understanding of aerosol-radiation interactions is needed. In this study, we show micro-physical and optical properties of aerosols using the Optical Property of Aerosol and Cloud (OPAC) aerosol models. Aerosol optical properties, then, were used to analysis the relationship between theoretical satellite measured radiation from radiative transfer calculations and aerosol optical thickness (AOT) under various environments (aerosol type and loadings). It is found that the choice of aerosol type makes little different in AOT retrieval for AOT<0.2. Otherwise AOT differences between true and retrieved increase as AOT increases. Furthermore, the differences between the AOT and angstrom exponent from standard algorithms and this study, and the comparison with ground based sunphotometer observations are investigated. Over the northeast Asian region, these comparisons suggest that spatially averaged mean AOT retrieved from this study is much better than from standard ocean color algorithm. Finally, these results will be useful for aerosol retrieval or atmospheric correction of COMS/GOCI data processing.
