  • This study aims to investigate the usage of nano-scale particles in a micro metal injection molding ($\mu$-MIM) process. Nanoscale particle is effective to improve transcription and surface roughness in small structure. Moreover, the effects of hybrid micro/nano particles, Cu/Cu and SUS/Cu were investigated. Small dumbbell specimens were produced using various feedstocks prepared by changing binder content and fraction of nano-scale Cu particle (0.3 and $0.13{\mu}m$ in particle size). The effects of adding the fraction of nano-scale Cu powder on the melt viscosity of the feedstock, microstructure, density and tensile strength of sintered parts were discussed.

  • One dimensional combustion modeling of aluminum combustion behavior is proposed. Combustion model is assumed that region consists as follows ; preheat, reaction, post reaction region. Flame speed as a function of particle size, equivalence ratio for unitary particles and fraction ratio of micro to nano particle size for binary particles were investigated for lean burn condition at 1 atm. Results were compared with experimental data. For unitary particles, flame speed increase as particle size decreases, but opposite trend with equivalence ratio. For binary particles, flame speed increases proportionally as nano particle fraction increases. For flame structure, separated or overlapping flames are observed, depending on the fraction of nano sized particles.

  • The aim of this study is to improve properties both glass transition temperature($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) using epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,2,3,5g). This paper deals with the effects of GDE addition for epoxy/micro alumina contents (40, 50, 60wt%)+surface modified nano alumina(1_phr) composites. 20 kinds specimen were prepared with containing micro, nano alumina and GDE as a micro composites(10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70wt%) or a nano/micro alumina composites(1phr/40, 50, 60wt%). Average particle size of nano and micro alumina used were 30nm and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro alumina used were alpha phase with Heterogeneous and nano alumina were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The glass transition temperature and coefficients of thermal expansion was evaluated by DSC and TMA. The glass transition temperature decreased and coefficients of thermal expansion become smaller with filled contents of epoxy/micro alumina composites. On the other hand, $T_g$ and CTE as GDE addition variation(1,2,3,5g) of epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites decreased and increased respectively.

  • We have fabricated inverted staggered pentacene Thin Film Transistor (TFT) with 1-${\mu}m$ channel length by micro contact printing (${\mu}$-CP) method. Patterning of micro-scale source/drain electrodes without etching was successfully achieved using silver nano particle ink, Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp and FC-150 flip chip aligner-bonder. Sheet resistance of the printed Ag nano particle films were effectively reduced by two step annealing at $180^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, micro-sized and nano-sized pure aluminum (Al) powders were compressed by unidirectional pressure at room temperature. Although neither type of Al bulk was heated, they had a high relative density and improved mechanical properties. The microstructural analysis showed a difference in the process of densification according to particle size, and the mechanical properties were measured by the Vickers hardness test and the nano indentation test. The Vickers hardness of micro Al and nano Al fabricated in this study was five to eight times that of ordinary Al. The grain refinement effect was considered to be one of the strengthening factors, and the Hall-Petch equation was introduced to analyze the improved hardness caused by grain size reduction. In addition, the effect of particle size and dispersion of aluminum oxide in the bulk were additionally considered. Based on these results, the present study facilitates the examination of the effect of particle size on the mechanical properties of compacted bulk fabricated by the powder metallurgy method and suggests the possible way to improve the mechanical properties of nano-crystalline powders.

  • Electrochemical method have been employed in this work to modify the chemical vapour deposited nitrogen doped hydrogen amorphous diamond-like carbon (N-DLC) film to fabricate nickel and copper nano particle modified N-DLC electrodes. The electrochemical behaviour of the metal nano particle modified N-DLC electrodes have been characterized at the presence of glucose in electrolyte. Meanwhile, the N-DLC film structure and the morphology of metal nano particles on the N-DLC surface have been investigated using micro-Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The nickel nano particle modified N-DLC electrode exhibits a high catalytic activity and low background current, while the advantage of copper modified N-DLC electrode is drawn back by copper oxidizations at anodic potentials. The results show that metal nano particle modification of N-DLC surface could be a promising method for controlling the electrochemical properties of N-DLC electrodes.

  • In order to develop a high voltage insulation material, epoxy/micro-silica composites (EMC) and epoxy/micro-silica/nano-silica composites (EMNC) with three different particle sizes in ${\mu}m$ and one particle size in nm were prepared and their tensile and flexural tests were carried out and the data was estimated by Weibull statistical analysis. The tensile strength of the neat epoxy was 82.8 MPa and those of the EMCs were larger than that of the neat epoxy, and they were much more advanced by the addition of 10 nm sized nano-silica to the EMCs. Flexural strength showed the same tendency of the tensile strength. As the micro-particle size decreased, tensile and flexural strength increased.

  • The aim of this study is to improve of properties for electrical AC insulation breakdown strength using epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,3,5g). This paper deals with the effects of GDE addition for epoxy/micro alumina contents (40,50,60wt%)+surface modified nano alumina(1_phr) composites. 14 kinds specimen were prepared with containing epoxy resins, epoxy micro composites and epoxy nano-micro alumina mixture composites. Average particle size of nano and micro alumina used were 30nm and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro alumina used were alpha phase with Heterogeneous and nano alumina were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The electrical AC insulation breakdown strength was evaluated by sphere to sphere electrode system and raising velocity 1kV/s. The AC breakdown strength decreased insulation properties of multi-composites according to increasing micro alumina and GDE addition contents.
