Effect of $B_2O_3$ on the Microstructure and the Microwave Dielectric Properties of the $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ Ceramics ($Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ 세라믹의 미세구조 및 고주파 유전 특성에 대한 $B_2O_3$의 영향)

  • 본 논문에서는 $B_2O_3$ 첨가가 Ba$(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ (BMT)의 유전특성 및 미세구조의 변화에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구하였다 $B_2O_3$가 소량 첨가되었을 때는 결정립의 성장을 야기하여 치밀한 미세구조를 보였지만, 다량이 첨가된 경우 비정상 결정립 성장을 야기하여 치밀화가 떨어지는 미세구조를 보임과 동시에 $Ba_3Ta_5O_{15}$의 2차상을 형성했다. 이는 소량의 $B_2O_3$ 첨가가 유전특성의 향상을 가져왔지만, 다량의 첨가는 오히려 특성의 악화를 가져온 결과의 원인이라 생각된다. 0.5mol%의 $B_2O_3$를 첨가하여 $1500^{\circ}C$에서 6시간 소결한 경우 ${{\varepsilon}_r}=24$, $Q{\times}f=210,000GHz$의 유전 특성 값과 $4.74ppm/^{\circ}C$$T_{cf}$ 값을 얻었다.

Detection of Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 from adult Pacific Oysters Crassostrea gigas Cultured in Korea

  • The presence of ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) and the percentage of viral DNA detected in Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas adults were investigated monthly between May and November 2012 at three locations along the southern coast of Korea. Among 210 oysters examined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis, OsHV-1 DNA was detected in only one oyster collected in August. The low detection rate of OsHV-1 DNA was consistent with the lack of reported OsHV-1-associated disease in C. gigas cultured in Korea. The sequence of the present PCR product amplified with the C2/C6 primer pair was identical to that of OsHV-1 ${\mu}Var$ except for one nucleotide, and the sequence amplified with Del36-37F2/Del36-37R showed a 605-bp deletion as in OsHV-1 ${\mu}Var$. Although these sequence data are insufficient to determine genotype, the results suggest that the herpesvirus detected was similar to OsHV-1 ${\mu}Var$. This is the first report on the presence of OsHV-1 in adult Pacific oysters cultured in Korea.

Ethical Dilemma and Coping Types in Nurses (간호사의 윤리적 딜레마와 대처유형)

  • This study was conducted to examine the ethical dilemma and coping types of nurses, and identify the relationship between ethical dilemma and coping types of nurses. The subjects of this study consisted of 210 nurses from two university hospitals in Taegu and one university hospital and one general hospital in Pohang. The data were collected with self reported questionnaire from June 2003 to July 2003. The data were analysed using the SPSS program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The mean score of level of ethical dilemma was 0.55/1, and client area was the highest(M=0.65). 2. The mean score of level of coping about ethical dilemma was 2.22/4, and seeking social support area was the highest (M=2.42). 3. The conflict of proffering the best care with courtesy to impolite patient was the highest in total items of ethical dilemma. Criticized or lectured myself was the highest in total items of coping type. 4. In general characteristics, age(F=4.74, p<.01), marital status(t=2.67, p<.01), career (F=5.95, p<.01) were significantly related to level of ethical dilemma and religion(t=2.27, p<.05) was significantly related to types of coping. There was positive correlation between ethical dilemma and types of coping(r=.228, p<.01). On the basis of these findings, it is needed a correlation study according to category of ethical dilemma and coping types of nurses, and to develop the coping strategy that resolves ethical dilemma in nursing practice.

Antioxidant Activities of Stachys sieboldii MIQ. Stalks (초석잠 [Stachys sieboldii MIQ.] 줄기의 항산화 활성)

  • This study was worked out to investigate the compounds of antioxidant constituents extracted from Stachys Sieboldii MiQ. and their effects on antioxidant activity by DPPH method, ferric thiocyanate method, and nitrite scavenging ability. Solvents such as methanol, hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol, and water were used for this purpose. Total concentrations of polyphenols and flavonoids were measured in the methanol fraction. The ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest activity by DPPH method, ferric thiocyanate method, and nitrite scavenging ability. The ethyl acetate extract was fractionated on a silica gel column using elution solvent (chloroform: methanol: water = 70 : 30 : 5 lower phase) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. UV-VIS spectral data of each fraction showed adsorption maxima in the range of 284~330 nm. Among fractions, the fraction 1 that has λ$\_$max/ (nm) of 284 nm showed the strongest activity by DPPH method. The UV-VIS spectral data of phenolic compounds were known to lie in the range of 210~290 nm and 300~550 nm. Therefore, the results of our study suggested that Stachys sieboldii MIQ. contains phenolic compounds showing natural antioxidant activity.

Effect of Starting Materials on the Characteristics of (La1-xSrx)Mn1+yO3−δ Powder Synthesized by GNP (GNP법에 의해 합성한 (La1-xSrx)Mn1+yO3−δ 분말의 출발물질에 따른 특성)

  • We synthesized $(La_{1-x}Sr_x)MnO_3$ as a cathode for SOFC by glycine nitrate process (GNP) and knew the different properties of $(La_{1-x}Sr_x)MnO_3$ by using nitrate solution and oxide solution as a starting material. In case of using nitrate solution as a starting material, main crystal phase peak of $LaMnO_3$ increased as Sr content added up and a peak of $Sr_2MnO_4\;and\;La_2O_3$ was showed as a secondary phase. We added Mn excess to control a crystal phase. In this case, the electrical conductivity had a high value 210.3 S/cm at $700^{\circ}C$. On the other side, when we used oxide solution as a starting material, we found main crystal phase of $LaMnO_3$ to increase as Sr content added up and a peak of $La_2O_3$ as a secondary phase. Similary, we added Mn excess to control a crystal phase in this case. We knew $(La,Sr)MnO_3$ powder to sinter well and the electrical conductivity of the sintered body at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 4 h was 152.7 S/cm at $700^{\circ}C$. The sintered $(La,Sr)MnO_3$ powder at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 4 h got the deoxidization peak, depending on the temperature and in case of using nitrate solution as a starting material, the deoxidization peak was showed at $450^{\circ}C$ which is lower than used a oxide solution as a starting material. As a result, when $(La,Sr)MnO_3$ powder was synthesized to add Mn excess and to use nitrate solution as a starting material, we found it to have the higher deoxidization property and considered it as a cathode for SOFC properly. And we found it to have different electrical conductivity the synthesized $(La,Sr)MnO_3$ powder by using different starting materials like nitrate solution and oxide solution which influence a sintering density and crystal phase.

The Status of Eating Habits and Nutrient Intakes of Preschool Children in Kyungjoo (경주지역 유치원 아동들의 식습관과 영양소 섭취상태)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the nutrient intakes and food habits among preschool children in Kyungjoo city. The subjects were 210 preschool children, aged 4 - 6 years. Measurements of the weight, height, chest circumference, and head circumference of the children were conducted. And general home environment and factors related to eating habits for preschool children were collected using a questionnaire that included information about family income, parents' education and occupations. The average weight-length index (WLI) for the subjects was $103.9\%$. Using the WLI, $20.0\%$ of the preschool children were underweight, $48.6\%$ were normal, $19.0\%$ were overweight, and $12.3\%$ were obese. On the R$\ddot{o}$hrer index, $13.8\%$ of the preschool children were underweight, $38.5\%$ were normal, and $47.7\%$ were over weight or obese. The average daily intake ($\%$ of RDA) of energy and each nutrient was 1323.5 kcal ($81.3\%$), Ca 484.3 mg ($80.7\%$), Fe 7.05 mg ($88.1\%$), vitamin A 420.0 RE ($105\%$), vitamin $B_{2}$ 0.76 mg ($95.0\%$), vitamin $B_{2}$ 0.87 mg ($87.0\%$), and vitamin C 53.1 mg ($106.2\%$) , respectively. In particular, older subjects had lower intake in RDA $%$ of calcium and iron. The energy intake ratio from snacks was much higher than the recommended level of the preschool children. With regard to frequency of regularity of breakfast, $1.9\%$ of preschool children skipped every morning and $7.6\%$ of the children skipped more than 5 per week. With regard to the intake frequency of vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, and milk, $13.3\%$, $19.9\%$, $22.8\%$, and $41.8\%$ of the children ate more than 5 times per week. The eating habit score was positively correlated (r = 0.18, P < 0.05) with household income. This study suggests that nutrition education to increase fruit and vegetable consumption for preschool children should be emphasized. Also a nutrition education program is needed to enhance consuming calcium and iron intake for adequate growth.

Dermatophytosis of the Four-toed Hedgehog Caused by Trichophyton erinacei

  • Trichophyton erinacei is a dermatophyte pathogen that infects both humans and hedgehogs. A two-month old female four-toed hedgehog presented to the Chonbuk Animal Medical Center with pruritus, excoriation and crust on her face for ten days. The owner of the hedgehog also exhibited the clinical signs of scaly erythema with fine vesicles on her neck. A presumptive diagnosis of dermatophytosis was made based on the results of an acetate tape preparation in which hyphae and chains of arthroconidia were observed. The crusts from the lesions were then cultured on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar for identification. After 10 days of incubation, downy colored colonies that had a central umbo with a white granular surface and a yellow pigment ring in the reverse were observed. Microscopic analysis revealed the presence of numerous teardrop shaped microconidia singly attached to the sides of the hyphae. In addition, 2-6 roomed macroconidia that were somewhat irregular in shape and size were present, and abundant intermediate sized spores were observed between the micro and macro conidia. To confirm that the culture was T. erinacei, the internal transcribed spacer region of the 5.8S phase of the ribosomal RNA gene (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 rDNA) was amplified by PCR and then sequenced. A 679-base pair fragment of DNA was then compared with sequences in GenBank and found to be 99% homologous with sequences of T. erinacei (Z97997 and Z97996. The clinical signs were resolved after four weeks of treatment with oral and topical ketoconazole and chlorhexidine. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first case of T. erinacei isolated from a four-toed hedgehog in Korea.

A Study on Comparison of Characteristics of Fermentability and Fermented Broth for Houttuynia Cordata Thunb Extracts (어성초 추출물의 발효적성 및 발효액의 특성 비교)

  • This study was to separate wild yeast from the Houttuynia Cordata Thunb(HC) extracts fermented in traditional way and investigate the characteristics of fermentation from the HC extracts. As a result, the longer the cultivation time, the more the contents of alcohol in $15^{\circ}Brix$ sugar solutions increased. When it reached to 90 hours since it cultivated, it ranked HCE 12%, HCD 11.2%, and HCA 10.5% in order. As for HCF, HCG, HCB, and HCC), this study has shown that the contents of alcohol were from 7.5% through 8.5%. As a result of selecting germ strains like HCE and HCD with the highest alcohol-genicity in the sugar solutions as separated yeast from HC and of comparing and reviewing the existing Saccharomyces germ strains and fermentation power in the medium of HC(Juice extraction of HC : Distilled water(1:1), this study has found out that 'pH' decreased from $4.09{\sim}4.12$ before fermentation through $3.57{\sim}3.78$ after fermentation. And, the sugar concentration decreased from $15.00{\sim}15.19^{\circ}Brix$ through $7.75{\sim}9.57^{\circ}Brix$ before fermentation. Also, the acid value increased from $0.138{\sim}0.210%$ before fermentation through $0.282{\sim}0.45%$ after fermentation. In addition, as the contents of alcohol became $3.6{\sim}4.6%$ after fermentation, isolates HCD and HCE from HC had higher value rather than ones of DJ97, YJK, R12, and RCY separated from persimmons, apples, and grapes. The result value of color was minimum $4.75{\pm}1.44$ and maximum $6.85{\pm}1.63$, and HCE marked the highest record among the items of sensory evaluation. The overall acceptability was in normal level like minimum $3.95{\pm}1.17$ and maximum $5.00{\pm}1.41$. It is considered as it could lower sensory evaluation because the acceptability of flavor was not satisfied. After all, the significance(p<0.05) among the germ strains was not recognized in aspects of color, flagrance, flavor, and overall acceptability.

Antimicrobial and anti-gingivitis effect of chewing gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol (자몽종자추출물과 자일리톨이 배합된 껌의 치은염 예방 및 항균효과)

  • Grapefruit seed extract has been reported to have antimicrobial effect. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial and anti-gingivitis effect of chewing gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol. 40 healthy subjects with gingivitis or early periodontitis were divided into two groups. Subjects in the experimental group chewed gum containing grapefruit seed extract and xylitol while subjects in the control group chewed gum containing only xylitol. All subjects received scaling and tooth brushing instruction. 1 week after scaling was set as baseline. Gingival index and plaque index were scored at baseline, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week. Bleeding index, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level were scored at baseline, 2 week and 4 week. The number of total bacteria and Streptococcus mutans in unstimulated saliva of experimental group were counted at 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week. Gingival indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 1 week, 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 0.850${\pm}$0.298, 0.575${\pm}$0.345, 0.533${\pm}$0.332, 0.459${\pm}$0.311, 0.408${\pm}$0.224 and 0.758${\pm}$0.379, 0.592${\pm}$0.276, 0.563${\pm}$0.281, 0.454${\pm}$0.194, 0.413${\pm}$0.199 (mean${\pm}$SD), respectively. Plaque indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 1 week. 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 0.497${\pm}$0.500, 0.375${\pm}$0.484, 0.332${\pm}$0.471, 0,286${\pm}$0.452, 0.210${\pm}$0.407 and 0.411${\pm}$0.492, 0.375${\pm}$0.484, 0.354${\pm}$0.479, 0.313${\pm}$0.463, 0.193${\pm}$0.395, respectively. Bleeding indices of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 0.377${\pm}$0.177, 0.298${\pm}$0.152, 0.192${\pm}$0.108 and 0.383${\pm}$0.124, 0.318${\pm}$0.153, 0.225${\pm}$0.126, respectively. Probing pocket depth of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 2.56${\pm}$1.00, 2.40${\pm}$0.65, 2.23${\pm}$0.64 and 2.45${\pm}$0.682.37${\pm}$0.57, 2.19${\pm}$0.57, respectively. Clinical attachment level of experimental group and control group at baseline, 2 week and 4 week were 2.58${\pm}$1.01, 2.43${\pm}$0.67, 2.26${\pm}$0.65 and 2.49${\pm}$0.70, 2.40${\pm}$0.59, 2.22${\pm}$0.62, respectively. The % of reduction of total bacteria in saliva of experimental group at 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 46 ${\pm}$ 53%, 53 ${\pm}$ 5% and 69 ${\pm}$ 33%. The % of reduction of Streptococcus mutans count in saliva of experimental group at 2 week, 3 week and 4 week were 52${\pm}$69%, 88${\pm}$30% and 89${\pm}$17%. From these findings, it can be concluded that regular use of grapefruit seed extract /xylitol chewing gum may be effective to control and prevent gingivitis and may have caries-preventive effect.

Preliminary Study for Elevated Serum CXCL10 and CXCL11 in Active Pulmonary Tuberculosis Compared with the Other Pulmonary Diseases (타 폐질환과 비교를 통한 활동성 결핵에서 혈중 CXCL10과 CXCL11 증가의 의의)

  • Background: CXCL10 and CXCL11, which are family of CXCR3 ligands, are expressed by lymphocytes and even by bronchial epithelial cells if the cellular immunity is activated. This study evaluated the potential utility of CXCL10 and CXCL11 in the serum for active pulmonary tuberculosis in comparison with lung cancer, which activates the cellular immunity, and benign lung diseases. Methods: Patients who newly visited Pusan National University Hospital from January 2007 to December 2007 and were suspected of having lung cancer or tuberculosis were enrolled prospectively. The patients were classified pathologically and clinically into three groups, 47 with lung cancer, 18 with active pulmonary tuberculosis and 38 control patients with benign pulmonary disease. ELISA was used to determine the levels of CXCL10 and CXCL11 were determined in the serum. Results: The level of CXCL10 and CXCL11 were significantly higher in the active pulmonary tuberculosis group than in the lung cancer and benign lung disease groups (p<0.001, Kruskal-Wallis). The level of CXCL11 was significantly higher in the lung cancer group than in the benign pulmonary disease group, but there was no significant difference in level of CXCL10 between the three groups (p<0.001, p=0.655, respectively, Mann-Whitney U). The level of CXCL10 in patients with stage III+IV lung cancer was significantly higher than those with stage I+II, but there was no significant difference in the level of CXCL11 between the groups (p<0.001, p=0.07, respectively, Mann-Whitney U). There was no significant difference in the level of CXCL10 and CXCL11 between those with the presence and absence of lung cancer metastasis. There was a significant correlation between the level of CXCL10 and CXCL11 (r=0.223, p<0.001). Conclusion: CXCL10 and CXCL11 may be a potential useful markers for active pulmonary tuberculosis if used alongside other diagnostic methods.
