기후변화 연구에 관한 한국기상학회 60년사 (60 Years of Korean Meteorological Society on Climate Change)

  • This paper aims to examine from various perspectives how domestic research studies and projects related to climate change have been conducted to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean Meteorological Society (KMS). The 『50-year History of the Korean Meteorological Society』, published more than a decade ago, has never dealt with the history of development of individual fields of meteorology such as climate change. Therefore, it is of significance to look at the history of research activities and studies achieved by KMS members in the area of climate change over the past 60 years. The research on climate change in KMS is classified by era from the beginning to the latest and the contents are examined by major research projects at that time. During the past 60 years, climatological research in KMS has been mainly focused on general climate, synoptic climate, and applied climate (urban climate) until the 2000s. However, since the 1990s, climate change has become an important area for climate research. The 2000s are the beginning era of climate change research, since the major projects and researches for climate change has begun in the period. The 2010s can be a time when climate change prediction and monitoring are expanded and refined to meet the rapidly increasing demands for climate information from a wide range of areas. We concluded that the development of the research capabilities of the society over the past 60 years, in particular in the past two decades, in the field of climate change research is remarkable.

한국에서 처음 작성된 일기도의 내용과 변경 (The Contents and the Backgrounds on the First Daily Weather Charts in Korea)

  • The weather charts made at November 1, 1905 that were supposed to be the first daily weather chart in Korea were found and the contents of them were described and investigated. They were consisted of three sheets of paper. The first sheet consists of 2 kinds of weather charts. The second one does 6 kinds, and the third one is a table where 51 stations' records are in it. The diagnosing method and the historical background of the charts were explained. Although it is slim, the possibilities of the other earlier charts than these are explained also.

  • Effects of air pollutants on vegetation were reviewed and discussed with special reference to sulfur dioxide. Main contents were on the sources, meteorological factors, injury symptoms, relative sensitivity, growth/yield, indicator/diagnosis, combined effects, injury mechanism and effects on plant metabolism, injury diminishing measures, and future research needs.

기상예보 정보 사용자 그룹의 만족가치 제고 방안: 강수예보를 중심으로 (Enhancing the Satisfaction Value of User Group Using Meteorological Forecast Information: Focused on the Precipitation Forecast)

  • 기상정보 제공자들은 예보사용자들이 제공되는 예보서비스에 얼마나 만족하고 있는지를 알고 싶어 한다. 더 나은 예보서비스 제공을 위해서 각국의 기상 커뮤니티들은 사용자들의 만족도에 관한 다양한 설문조사를 진행하고 있다. 하지만 대부분의 설문조사들이 단순하게 사용자들이 얼마나 서비스에 만족하는지를 질문하고 있기 때문에 설문 결과의 설명력이 떨어지고, 예보서비스의 전략수립에 활용되기 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 예보의 가치를 평가하는 유용한 도구인 $2{\times}2$ 검증테이블에 기존의 비용-손실이 아닌 만족-불만족 개념을 적용하여 상해와 서울에서 제공된 24시간 강수예보의 만족가치를 도출하였다. 그리고 예보에 대한 개인의 만족가치뿐만 아니라 예보 사용자 그룹의 만족가치를 평가하였다. 그 결과, 확정예보 사용자 그룹의 만족가치를 높이기 위해선 예보 정확도의 향상이 유용하지만, 확률예보의 경우엔 사용자 그룹의 불만족 정도와 예보확률의 사용 분포를 파악하는 것이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 기상 커뮤니티들이 예보 사용자들에게 더 나은 만족가치를 제공할 수 있는 방안을 찾는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

Physicochemical properties and energy content of yellow dent corn from different climatic origins in growing pigs

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) of yellow dent corn sourced from different meteorological origins fed to growing pigs and develop equations to predict the DE and ME of yellow dent corn from southwestern China. Methods: Sixty crossbred barrows were allotted to 20 treatments in a triplicate 20×2 incomplete Latin square design with 3 replicated pigs per dietary treatment during 2 consecutive periods. Each period lasted for 12 days, and total feces and urine during the last 5 days of each period were collected to calculate the energy contents. Results: On dry matter (DM) basis, the DE and ME in 20 corn grain samples ranged from 15.38 to 16.78 MJ/kg and from 14.93 to 16.16 MJ/kg, respectively. Selected best-fit prediction equations for DE and ME (MJ/kg DM basis) for yellow dent corn (n = 16) sourced from southwestern China were as follows: DE = 28.58-(0.12×% hemicellulose)+(0.35×% ether extract)-(0.83×MJ/kg gross energy)+(0.20×% crude protein)+(0.49×% ash); ME = 30.42-(0.11×% hemicellulose)+(0.31×% ether extract)-(0.81×MJ/kg gross energy). Conclusion: Our results indicated that the chemical compositions, but not the meteorological conditions or physical characteristics could explain the variation of energy contents in yellow dent corn sourced from southwestern China fed to growing pigs.

WRF 기상자료의 토양수분 모형 적용을 통한 밭 토양수분 및 필요수량 산정 (Estimation of Soil Moisture and Irrigation Requirement of Upland using Soil Moisture Model applied WRF Meteorological Data)

  • The aim of this study was to develop a soil moisture simulation model equipped with meteorological data enhanced by WRF (Weather Research and Forecast) model, and this soil moisture model was applied for quantifying soil moisture content and irrigation requirement. The WRF model can provide grid based meteorological data at various resolutions. For applicability assessment, comparative analyses were conducted using WRF data and weather data obtained from weather station located close to test bed. Water balance of each upland grid was assessed for soils represented with four layers. The soil moisture contents simulated using the soil moisture model were compared with observed data to evaluate the capacity of the model qualitatively and quantitatively with performance statistics such as correlation coefficient (R), coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean squared error (RMSE). As a result, R is 0.76, $R^2$ is 0.58 and RMSE 5.45 mm in soil layer 1 and R 0.61, $R^2$ 0.37 and RMSE 6.73 mm in soil layer 2 and R 0.52, $R^2$ 0.27 and RMSE 8.64 mm in soil layer 3 and R 0.68, $R^2$ 0.45 and RMSE 5.29 mm in soil layer 4. The estimated soil moisture contents and irrigation requirements of each soil layer showed spatiotemporally varied distributions depending on weather and soil texture data incorporated. The estimated soil moisture contents using weather station data showed uniform distribution about all grids. However the estimated soil moisture contents from WRF data showed spatially varied distribution. Also, the estimated irrigation requirements applied WRF data showed spatial variabilities reflecting regional differences of weather conditions.

일 대학 학생들의 기상정보 이용실태와 만족도 및 건강정보 요구도 (Students' Actual Use and Satisfaction of Meteorological Information and Demands on Health Forecasting at a University)

  • Purpose: Climate change affects human health and calls for a health forecasting service. The purpose of this study was to explore the students' actual use and their satisfaction with meteorological information and the demands on health forecasting at a university in South Kyungsang Province. Method: This study used a descriptive design through structured self-report questionnaires including frequency, contents, purpose, perception, satisfaction of meterological information and need and demand of health forecasting. Data were collected from June 1 to 5, 2009 and analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 program. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $\chi^2$ test and Person's correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. Result: The majority of the students watched the daily weather information to decide about daily work, outdoor activity or habitually. The mean score of need for health forecasting was $3.44{\pm}.81$, and the demand for health forecasting was $2.93{\pm}1.05$. Significant differences were found in the need for health forecasting according to sex, major, and environmental disease. In addition, the higher the satisfaction of health forecasting, the higher the demand for it. Conclusion: I suggest improving the meteorological information system technically and developing a health forecasting service resulting in a healthier and more comfortable life.

고해상도 기상자료와 토양수분모형을 이용한 고추의 관개량 산정 (Estimation of Irrigation Requirements for Red Pepper using Soil Moisture Model with High Resolution Meteorological Data)

  • The aim of this study is to estimate net irrigation requirements for red pepper during growing period using soil moisture model. The soil moisture model based on water balance approach simulates soil moisture contents of 4 soil layers in crop root zone considering soil moisture extraction pattern. The LAMP (Land-Atmosphere Modeling Package) high resolution meteorological data provided from National Center for AgroMeteorology (NCAM) was used to simulate soil moisture as the input weather data. Study area for the LAMP data and soil moisture simulation covers $36.92^{\circ}{\sim}37.40^{\circ}$ in latitude and $127.36^{\circ}{\sim}127.94^{\circ}$ in longitude. Soil moisture was monitored using FDR (Frequency Domain Reflectometry) sensors and the data were used to validate the simulation model from May 24 to October 20 in 2016. The results showed spatially detailed soil moisture pattern under different weather conditions and soil texture. Net irrigation requirements were also different by location reflecting the spatially distributed weather condition. The average of the requirements was 470.7 mm and averages about soil texture were 466.8 mm, 482.4 mm, 456.0 mm, 481.7 mm, and 465.6 mm for clay loam, sandy loam, silty clay loam, clay, and sand respectively. This study showed spatial differences of soil moisture and the irrigation requirements of red pepper about spatially uneven weather condition and soil texture. From the results, it was demonstrated that high resolution meteorological data could provide an opportunity of spatially different crop water requirement estimation during the irrigation management.

기상학회 60년간 환경분야 연구 역사와 전망 (60-Year Research History and Future Prospects in Environment Field in Korean Meteorological Society)

  • Research papers in the field of atmospheric environment published in three Journals: Journal of Korean Meteorological Society, Atmosphere, and Asia-Pacific Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, are all summarized over period of 60 years since the establishment of Korea Meteorological Society (KMS) in 1963. In addition, current research trends and future outlook in the atmospheric environment field has been also highlighted. The results of historical records published in three KMS journals indicated that the activities, contents, and scope of researches carried out by KMS members in the field of atmospheric environment have yielded the enormous and rapid progress in each of the all four areas over 60 years. In particular, as the chronological progress of observational instruments and availability of satellite data such as from GEMS can be a great asset to deepen the observational and modeling researches in the current and future studies, it is highly anticipated that the more progressive and in-depth studies can be achievable to abate the air pollutants over the Korea as well as northeast Asia.

기후 요인이 단감 '부유' 및 '서촌조생'잎의 무기성분 함량 변화에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Meteorological Elements on Changes of Inorganic Nutrient Contents in Leaf of 'Fuyu' and 'Nishimurawase'sweet persimmon)

  • 본 연구는 동일 포장 내 부유와 서촌조생 품종의 잎 내 무기성분의 시기별 함량 변화와 기상요인을 조사하였다. '부유'와 '서초조생' 잎의 N, P, K, 및 Cu 함량은 후기로 갈수록 감소되었으나, Ca, Mg, 및 Mn 함량은 증가되었다. 그리고 '부유' 잎의 K함량은 서촌조생' 보다 높았으나, '서촌조생' 잎의 P와 Ca 함량은 '부유' 보다 높았다. 평균기온과 K 함량은 정의 상관이 인정되었다. 강우량은 Ca 함량과는 정의 상관이, N과 Cu 함량과는 부의 상관이 인정되었다. 그리고 일조량은 N과 Cu 함량과는 정의 상관이, Ca, Mg 및 Mn과는 부의 상관이 인정되었다.
