LCC (Liquid cadmium cathode) is used for electrowinning in pyroprocessing to recover uranium and transuranic elements simultaneously. It is one of the core technologies in pyroprocessing with higher proliferation resistance than a wet reprocessing because LCC-cell does not separate TRU from uranium. The crucible which holds the LCC is technically important because it should be nonconducting material to prevent deposition of metallic elements on the crucible outer surface. The chemical stability is also crucial factor to choose crucible material due to the strong reactivities of TRU and possible incorporation of Li metal during the operation. In this study, the chemical stabilities of four kinds of representative ceramic materials such as $Al_2O_3$, MgO, $Yl_2O_3$ and BeO were thermodynamically and experimentally evaluated at $500^{\circ}C$ with simulated LCC. The contact angle of LCC on ceramic materials was measured as function of time to predict chemical reactivity. $All_2O_3$ showed poorest chemical stability and the pores in BeO contributed to a decreases in contact angle. MgO and $Y_2O_3$ have superior chemical stability among the materials.
Ancient mirrors are generally made of bronze, and it is very rare to find cases of iron mirrors excavated domestically. In this study, the unidentified ferrous artifact was treated for conservation, and was identified as a mirror. In this process, the sample was taken and analyzed for microstructure, and the manufacturing technology was studied. Analysis involved optical microscope, micro-hardness tester, and SEM-EDS. As the result of analysis, iron mirror structure exist not almost non-metallic inclusions, and partially network cementite was observed. This appears to have been caused by reduced carbon content due to decarburizing the cast iron in the solid state mirror which was created by cast iron. The ledeburite structure of the casting has difficult to cut or polish because has great hardness by high carbon content. Thus, the cast iron mirror was decarburized at a temperature under $850^{\circ}C$ with CO or $CO_2$ blocked, which reduced the hardness of the iron mirror and made it possible to polish the mirror surface. This deformation of structure according to carbon content results from such manufacturing technology.
Microbiologically influenced Corrosion (MIC) is one of the most deleterious effects of metal microbe interactions. When a fresh metal surface comes in contact with a non-sterile fluid, biofilm formation is ensued. This might result in the initiation of corrosion. The sites and materials where MIC is implicated are versatile. Industries such as shipping, power generation, chemical etc are reported to be affected. The rapid and unexpected failure of AISI type 304 stainless steel was investigated in the laboratory by simulation studies for a period of 4 months. Slime and water samples from the failure site were screened for corrosion causing bacteria. Both aerobic and anaerobic nora were enumerated and identified using PCR techniques. Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus sp. were the most common aerobic bacteria isolated from the water and slime samples, whilst sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) were the major anaerobic bacteria. The aerobic bacteria were used for the corrosion experiments in the laboratory. Coupon exposure studies were conducted using a very dilute (0.1%V/V) nutrient broth medium. The coupons after retrieval were observed under a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for the presence of MIC pits. Compared to sterile controls, metal coupons exposed to Pseudomonas sp and Bacillus sp. showed the initiation of severe pitting corrosion. However, amongst these two strains, Psudomonas sp. caused pits in a very short span of 14 days. Towards the end of the experiment, severe pitting was observed in both the cases. The detailed observation of pits showed they vary both in number and shapes. Whilst the coupons exposed to Bacillus sp. showed widely spread scales like pits, those exposed to Pseudomonas sp. showed smaller and circular pits, which had grown in number and size by the end of the experiment. From these results it is inferred that the rapid and unexpected failure of 304 SS might be due to MIC. Pseudonwnas sp. could be considered as the major responsible bacteria that could initiate pits in the metallic structures. As the appearance of pits was different in both the tested strains, it was thought that the mechanisms of pit formation are different. Experiments on these lines are being continued.

We have applied mechanical alloying (MA) to produce Heusler $Fe_2VAl$ thermoelectric alloy using a mixture of elemental $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ powders. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain the single phase of Fe2VAl compound with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. The $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ MA sample ball-milled for 60 hours exhibits a bcc ${\alpha}$-(Fe,V,Al) solid solution. Single phase of Heusler $Fe_2VAl$ compound can be obtained by MA of $Fe_{50}V_{25}Al_{25}$ mixture for 60 hours and subsequently heated up to $700^{\circ}C$. Sintering of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine using graphite dies at $900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ under 60 MPa. The Vickers hardness of bulk sample sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ was high value of Hv 870. All compact bodies have a high relative density above 90 % with metallic glare on the surface.

We have applied mechanical alloying (MA) to get $Mg_2Si$ thermoelectric material with nano-sized grains. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain the single phase of $Mg_2Si$ compound with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. The $Mg_{66.7}Si_{33.3}$ MA samples ball-milled for $20{\sim}180\;hrs$ exhibit two broad exothermic heat releases around $220^{\circ}C$ and $570^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, MA sample ball-milled far 260 hrs exhibits only a sharp exothermic peak at $230^{\circ}C$ Single phase Mg2Si powder can be obtained by MA of $Mg_{66.7}Si_{33.3}$ mixture for 60 hours and subsequently heated up to $620^{\circ}C$. Sintering of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine using graphite dies at $800{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ under 50 MPa. The shrinkage of sintering sample during SPS was significant at about $200^{\circ}C$. All compact bodies have a high relative density above 94% with metallic glare on the surface.

The effects of KOH pretreatment and annealing conditions on the interfacial adhesion and the reliability between epoxy resin and polyimide substrate in the flexible printed circuit board were quantitatively evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel test. The initial peel strength of the polyimide without the KOH treatment was 29.4 g/mm and decreased to 10.5 g/mm after 100hrs at $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. In case of the polyimide with annealing after KOH treatment, initial peel strength was 29.6 g/mm and then maintained around 27.5 g/mm after $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. Systematic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis results showed that the peel strength after optimum annealing after KOH treatment was maintained high not only due to effective recovery of the polyimide damage by the polyimide surface treatment process, but also effective removal of metallic ions and impurities during various wet process.
In this study, semi-aqueous solutions containing carboxylic acids such as oxalic acid (OA), lactic acid (LA) and citric acid (CA) were formulated for the removal of copper etching residues produced at the interconnection process, and their characteristics were analyzed. Carboxylic acids in the solutions were apt to form various copper complexes according to the value of pH. Semi-aqueous solution containing 10 wt% CA showed the lowest etching rate of copper in the range from pH2 to pH7 and the highest selectivity in the range of pH 2 to pH 4. However, the cleaning solution containing 10 wt% LA revealed the superior selectivity at the range from pH 5 to pH 7. Appropriate selection of carboxylic acid should be required to improve the performance of cleaning solution. In the case of CA, the etching selectivity of copper oxide complex to copper was increased with the concentration of CA in the solution, when the solutions contain over 5 wt% CA, the copper interconnection layer has a metallic copper surface more than 88% in the area. The result shows that CA contained semi-aqueous solution has a relatively good cleaning ability.
This study was performed to measure the changes of the mandibular movement and the masticatory muscular activities - anterior temporal and masseter muscle of both side - reflected by intentional increase of anterior guidance angie. For this study, 5 volunteers (3 males and 2 females with average age of 24.0) were selected. Each volunteer had Angle's classification I and did not have any missing tooth except third molar and any extensive restorations. Metallic guide plate was made at volunteer's working model fabricated by improved dental stone and cemented to the palatal surface of maxillary central incisor using resin cement(Panavia $21^{(R)}$) and then adjusted not to give any occlusal interferences at intercuspal position. The activity of masticatory muscles and the changes of mandibular movement were recorded by EMG and Sirognathograph in Biopak analysing system(Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA). Measurement was done at before experiment, immediatley after placement, 1 week after placement, immediately after removal, and 1 week after removal. The results were as follows: 1. Moderate phonetic disturbance and mild headache were occured to 3 volunteers for 2 days after setting and 1 volunteer had positive reaction to percussion and slight midline diastema. But all of these clinical signs were diappeared 1 week after removal and the other volunteer did not have any special clinical sign. 2. In the EMG of the mandibular rest position, the mean value of anterior tempotal muscle was increased immediately after placement(p<0.01) and then decreased 1 week after placement(p<0.05) and increased 1 week after removal(p<0.05) but not recovered as before experiment. The mean value of masseter muscle was decreased during the experiment period. 3. In the EMG during mandibular protrusive movement, all muscular activity was decreased during the experiment period. Reduced activity was not recovered 1 week after removal(p<0.03). 4. During the habitual opening, anteroposterior movement of mandible was decreased immediately after placement(p<0.05) and then increased 1 week after placement but not statistically significant(p>0.1). Vertical movement was not shown significant difference during the experiment period(p>0.1). Lateral movement was decreased immediately after placement(p<0.05) and then increased 1 week after placement but not recovered as before experiment. The opening and closing velocity of mandible was shown minor changes but not statistically significant. 5. During the habitual opening, anteroposterior movement of mandible was decreased 1 week after placement(p<0.05) and then increased immediately after removal and recovered 1 week after removal as before experiment. Vertical movement was not shown significant changes. Lateral displacement of mandible was increased continuously and recovered 1 week after removal. Opening velocity was temporarily increased immediately after removal but recovered and closing velocity was not shown significant changes. 6. During the right side chewing, anteroposterior movement of mandible was increased immediately after removal but recovered and vertical movement was not shown statistically significant results. Lateral displacement and velocity of mandible were not shown significant results. 7. During the left side chewing, the changes of mandibular movement pattern were not shown statistically significant results.
The optimum regeneration conditions for the regeneration of three way spent catalysts (TWCs), which were taken from automobiles with different driving conditions, were investigated to evaluate the suitability as alternative catalysts for removing VOCs. The spent catalysts were washed with five different acids ($HNO_3$, $H_2SO_4$, $C_2H_2O_4$, $C_6H_8O_7$, and $H_3PO_4$) to remove contaminants and examine the optimum conditions for recovering the catalytic activity. The physicochemical properties of spent and its regenerated TWCs were evaluated by using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, XRD, and ICP. The relative atomic ratios of contaminants and platinum group metals (PGMs) of the spent TWCs were greatly dependent on the placed positions. The main contaminants formed were lubricant oil additives and metallic components. Also, the regeneration treatment increased the PGMs ratio, BET surface area, and average pore diameter of TWCs. The catalytic activity results indicated that the spent TWCs have the possibility for removing VOCs. Moreover, the employed acid treatments greatly enhanced the catalytic activity of the spent TWCs. Especially, nitric and oxalic acids provided the most improvement in the catalytic behavior. The catalytic activities of the regenerated TWCs were significantly influenced by the containing platinum ratios rather than the removal ratios of contaminants and the changes in the structural properties offered by the acid treatments.
We precisely measured and analyzed the dynamics of peptide-antibody interactions, using an ellipsometric biosensor based on a silicon substrate. To reduce the signal error due to the imperfect flatness of the substrate for extremely low concentrations of peptide, we fabricated the biosensor with a silicon substrate coated with Dextran SAM, instead of a glass prism coated with a thin metallic thin film. At an injection speed of $100{\mu}l/min$ of buffer liquid, we detected the dynamics of antibody-Dextran SAM or peptide-antibody fixed on biosensor, respectively. We detected the dynamics of antibody-Dextran SAM interactions down to a low concentration of 5 ng per liter, and we precisely measured the dynamics of association and dissociation of peptide and antibody down to 100 nM of peptide. We obtained the rate constants for association and dissociation from fitting the data by using deduced dynamical equation. As a result, we obtained an equilibrium constant for dissociation of 97 nM of peptide-antibody complex, which belongs to Class I.
