Heavy Metal Adsorption of Untreated Barks by Treatment Conditions of Aqueous Solution (용액의 처리조건에 따른 미처리 수피에 의한 중금속 흡착)

  • This study was designed to investigate the adsorption of heavy metal ions by untreated bark according to the treatment conditions of aqueous solution. The effect of temperature and pH of aqueous solution, particle size of bark, addition of light metal ions on the adsorption was examined, and the competition in adsorption among heavy metal ions was also evaluated. te The adsorption ratio of $Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ increased with increasing themperature of solution from $-5^{\circ}C$ to $10^{\circ}C$ however, it was relatively constant at temperatures between $10^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$. The adsorption ratio of $Cr^{6+}$ increased continuously with increasing the temperature of solution. The maximum adsorption ratio of $Cu^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, and $Pb^{2+}$ was noted at pHs ranged 6 to 7; however, the adsorption ratio declined sharply on either sides of the optimum. The adsorption ratio of $Cr^{6+}$ decreased continuously with increasing the pH of solution. The adsorption ratio increased as decreasing the particle size of bark, and there was little differences in adsorption tendency between pine and oak bark. By the addition of $Ca^{2+}$ or $Mg^{2+}$(10~25 ppm), the adsorption ratio of $Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ increased. An increase of the adsorption ratio was higher in oak bark than in pine bark. However, the adsorption ratio of $Pb^{2+}$ and $Cr^{6+}$ was not affected by the addition of light metal ions. As the mixed solution of 2 or 3 kinds of heavy metal ions($Cu^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$) was treated with the untreated bark, the adsorption of $Zn^{2+}$ decreased considerably because of the competitive adsorption among heavy metal ions. Also the adsorption of $Cu^{2+}$ was more and less reduced. However the adsorption of $Pb^{2+}$ was not affected by the presence of other heavy metal ions.

S-Nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) Alleviates Lead Toxicity in Soybean by Modulating ROS, Antioxidants and Metal Related Transcripts

  • Heavy metals, including lead (Pb) toxicity, are increasing in soil and are considered toxic in small amounts. Pb contamination is mainly caused by industrialization - smelting, mining. Agricultural practices - sewage sludge, pests and urban practices - lead paint. It can seriously damage and threaten crop growth. Pb can adversely affect plant growth and development by affecting the photosystem, cell membrane integrity, and excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)andsuperoxide(O2.-). NO is produced via enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants to scavenge ROS and lipid peroxidation substrates in terms of protecting cells from oxidative damage. Thus, NO improves ion homeostasis and confers resistance to metal stress. Our results here suggest that exogenous NO may aid in better growth under lead stress. These enhancements may be aided by NO's ability in sensing, signaling and stress tolerance in plants under heavy metal stress in combination with lead stress. Our results show that GSNO has a positive effect on soybean seedling growth in response to axillary pressure and that NO supplementation helps to reduce chlorophyll maturation and relative water content in leaves and roots following strong burst under lead stress. GSNO supplementation (200 µM and 100 µM) reduced compaction and approximated oxidative damage of MDA, proline and H2O2. Under plant tension, a distorted appearance was found in the relief of oxidative damage by ROS scavenging by GSNO application. In summary, modulation of these NO, PCS and prolongation of metal past reversing GSNO application confirms the detoxification of ROS induced by toxic metal rates in soybean. In summary, these NO, PCS and metal traditionally sustained rates of reverse GSNO application confirm the detoxification of ROS induced by toxic metal rates in soybean.

Examination of an Algerian Clay in the Retention of Zinc Ions Charged in Brackish Water

  • We studied the removal of zinc ions from synthetic brackish water by an adsorption method using natural Algerian Bentonite (NAB). The effect of the main physico chemical parameters-contact time, pH, temperature, ionic strength, clay weight and initial metal ion concentrations on the removal of $Zn^{+2}$-were investigated. The results showed that equilibrium was attained within 10 min of stirring time. The retention capacity of $Zn^{+2}$ increased with the increase of pH, the adsorbent dose and ionic strength. A modelization study showed that the adsorption follows Langmuir isotherm, while its kinetics was pseudo-second-order. Based on the results, it was concluded that NAB, which is natural and available, could be used as an alternative for the removal of zinc from saline aqueous solutions.

Spectroscopic effects of negative and positive stresses on the transition metal-ion activated sapphire fibers

  • The spectroscopic properties of Cr3+-doped sapphire and Ti3+-doped sapphire fibers are reported. Tensile stress produces blue shifts of the R lines and changes in their radiative lifetimes and integrated intensities which can be correlated to stress-induced changes of the crystal-field parameters in a Cr3+-doped sapphire fiber. A net red shift of the zero phonon fluorescence line of 2Eg state and a decrease of the splittings of 2T2g state with uniaxial stress are observed in a Ti3+-doped sapphire. In excitation spectra the two peaks from the 2Eg state are shifted to the blue with different rates. The changes are attributed to the stress-induced changes of crystal field and Jahn-Teller effect.

  • Glutamine phosphoribosylpyrophosphate amidotransferase of Streptomyces tubercidicus was purified and characterized. Molecular weight of the isolated enzyme was determined to be approximately 230,000 and was composed foru identical subunits having a molecular weight of 58,000. This enzyme was strongly inhibited by AMP while considerably inhibited by ATP and GTP. Inhibition effect of enzyme activity by AMP was antagonized by increased concentration of substrate, PRPP, and metal ion (especially, $Mg^{++}$) was essential in both catalytic activity and nucleotide inhibition of this enzyme. Therefore, it was confirmed that end product inhibition of glutamine phosphoribosylpyrophosphate amidotransferase by adenine participated in the regulation of tubercidin biosynthesis from Streptomyces tubercidicus.s.

  • In this paper, we presented the packaging technologies of CMOS ISFET(Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor) pH sensor using post-CMOS process and MCP(Multi Chip Packaging). We have proposed and developed two types of packaging technology. one is one chip, which sensing layer is deposited on the gate metal of standard CMOS ISFET, the other is two chip type, which sensing layer is separated from CMOS ISFET and connected by bonding wire. These proposed packaging technologies would make it easy to fabricate CMOS ISFET pH sensor and to make variety types of pH sensor.

  • Effects of the plant growth regulator (P. G. R.)on the reaction of proteinase, $\gamma-amylase$ and acid phosphatase were investigated, and also were the conditions of production of P. G. R. by Stroptomyces sp. 445. The P. G. R. had no effect on the act ivities of such enzymes in mung bean seedling. But in germinating seed previously treated with P. G. R. it effected the activity of protease in cotyledon. In the conditions of production of P. G. R., the maxim, activity was appeared in shaking cutlure at $30^{\circ}C$ for 5 days, and by the addition of peptone or casein hydrolysate as nitrogen source, soluble starch as carbon source, and sulfur as metal ion.

  • We have developed a refractory WNx self-aligned gate GaAs metal-semiconductor field-effect transistor(MESFET) using $SiO_2$ side-wall process. The MESFET hasa fully ion-implanted, planar, symmetric self-alignment structure, and it is quite suitable for integration. The uniform trans-conductance of 354nS/mm up to Vgs=+0.6V and the saturation current of 171mA/mm were obtained. As high as 43GHz of cut-off frequency hs been realized without any de-embedding of parasitic effects. The refractory WNx self-aligned gate GaAs MESFET technology is one of the most promising candidates for realizing linear power amplifier ICs and multifunction monolithic ICs for use in the digital mobile communication systems such as hand-held phone(HHP), personal communication system (PCS) and wireless local loop(WLL).

  • The aim of present study was to examine the inhibitory effects of hydroxamic acid derivatives on the melanogenesis. We found that hydroxamic acid moiety was important for anti-melanogenic activity. Compounds 1a and 1b strongly inhibited melanin synthesis via deactivation of tyrosinase. Hydroxamic acid has metal ion chelating ability which is similar to that kojic acid, however, anti-tyrosinase mechanism of compounds 1a and 1b was different from that of kojic acid.
