  • The anionic agent containing dichloro-s-triazinyl reactive group was synthesized and applied to the cotton fabrics to introduce covalent bonds. This attempt was expected to improve the affinities of cationic compounds, such as cationic dyes, chitosan, quaternary ammonium antimicrobial agents and metal ions, by the electrostatic attractive force. As expected, the anionic agent was reacted with cotton fabrics at room temperature. In order to examine the adsorptivity of the cationic compounds on to the anionized cotton fabrics, firstly a cationic dye(C. I. Basic Violet 7) was applied. The color strength of the dyeing of anioized cotton fabric was highly increased comparing to that of untreated fabric.

  • This research verified the usefulness and practicality of citrus peel extract as a natural dye. This study dyed cotton, silk, and cotton/mulberry fiber blended fabrics using citrus peel extract, and measured the dyeability and functional property to verify their usefulness and practicality. The dyeing affinity of the citrus peel extract was measured by dyeing under alkaline conditions to determine the temperature and time for optimal dyeing conditions of the solution. The results show that a temperature and time of $60^{\circ}C$ and 30 minutes were optimal for dyeing cotton fabrics with citrus peel extract, $50^{\circ}C$ and 60 minutes for silk fabrics, and $60^{\circ}C$ and 60 minutes for cotton/mulberry fiber blended fabrics, respectively. In addition the results of measuring the color fastness of the cotton, silk, and cotton/mulberry fiber blended fabrics dyed with the citrus peel extract show that the color fastness was superior for washing, friction, sweat, and water. However, the color fastness for sunlight appeared to be slightly weak. In addition, it was found that fabric dyed with the citrus peel extract showed partial antimicrobial properties. The antimicrobial property appeared the greatest in the silk fabric. The cotton/mulberry fiber blended fabrics had 90% or more Staphylococcus aureus present, but the antimicrobial properties were not high in the cotton fabric. Additionally, the heavy metal content, which is harmful to the human body, appeared to be lower than standard figures, so the dye was found to be innocuous to humans. Therefore, when the results of this study are put together, citrus peel extract is sufficiently useful and practical as an ingredient for a natural dye. Moreover, there is ample possibility to develop citrus peel dyed fabrics as environmentally friendly fashion materials.

  • Cotton xanthate, which was obtained by treating cotton with carbon disulfide in alkaline solution, was treated with the solution of polyvalent metal ions to produce cotton xanthate-metal chelates. This chelation reaction was readily and simply achieved, and antimicrobial agents with suitable structures could subsequently be coupled to the chelate with ease at moderate pH values and in aqueous solution. Metal ions used in present work include Cu(II), Zn(II) and Fe(III). Tetracycline, streptomycin, neomycin and pyrithion were used as antimicrobial/antifungal agents. Antibacterial activities were measured employing ditch plate method against G(+) Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococus faecalis, and G(-) Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, and the fungus, Aspergillus niger. All the cotton xanthate-metal-antimicrobial agent chelates exhibited activities whereas the cotton xanthate-metal chelates themselves were inactive. Considering the extensive washing procedures and results from control experiments, possibility of the involvement of physical adsorption for the binding of drugs could be excluded.

  • Hwangnamdaechong Tomb (The 98th tomb in Hwangnam-dong), one of the royal tombs located around the area of royal tomb of King Michu in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, is currently designated as Historic Site No. 40. It is assumed that Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is a royal tomb of the early 5th century. This study aims to examine the fabric relics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb and currently housed in Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. The types of fabrics excavated from Hwangdamdawchong Tomb include plain silk, warp-faced compound woven silk, and hemp cloth. Most of these fabrics are adhered to metal products that became rusty. Plain silk found in Hwangnamdaechong Tomb can be divided into four types by its weaving method. Geum excavated from Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is typical Gyeong Geum that uses colored warp for its base and pattern. It is plain Gyeong Geum that the binding weft and warp is plain woven. Although there are a lot of Gyeong Geum fabrics whose colors are hard to define due to yellowing after long years, there are still many fabrics whose color such as purple, red, blue, and green can be identified. As literatures have shown that p cloth as well as silk were frequently woven during Silla dynasty, tremendous amount of hemp cloth was excavated. Most of the hemp cloth has S-twist in the warp and 8-12 seung degree of delicacy.

  • Wide spread using of mobile and handy electronic apparatus is giving rise to a question on the harmfulness of health and causing troubles when electical and electronic equipments are in use. This paper reports on the experimental results obtained by using a pliable and structured specimen that has a long shape aperture, made of stainless steel fibers. Based on the TEM mode transfer structure that was designed and manufactured through HFSS, we measured electromagnetic shielding effectives, where the network analyzer was applied. We could draw a conclusion from this research that the metal fabric showed a good electromagnetic shielding effect, mainly by means of the good reflex loss at the fiber surface. Even though the material itself possesses a good absorption loss. the specimen revealed that structural factors. e.g.. the shape of the aperture. the size of the aperture, etc., can have a more influence on the shielding effect than the components of material have. A special notice is required for modeling and analyzing the electromagnetic characteristics of metal fabrics, because there exists a strong possibility that multiple reflection can happen on the surface of metal fibers. which can presume a model of fiber bundle and fabric structure.

  • Dyebath used for metal complex dyeing of nylon microfiber was recycled to reduce the overall amounts of metal complex dyeing effluents. Instead of discharging the dyebath after each dyeing cycle, the residual dyebath was analyzed spectrophotometrically and reconstituted to the required concentration of dyes and auxiliaries. Dyebaths were reused eight times and the CIELAB coordinates of dyed samples were measured after each recycling. Color difference($\Delta$E*) between the sample dyed in the fresh bath and that from reused dyebath was maintained below 1.5. The levelness and fastness of dyed fabrics from recycled dyebath were not impaired either. Chromium content of each recycled dyebath was similar to that of the first residual dyebath.

  • Black-dyed PET fabrics were sputtered with stainless steel through DC-magnetron type device to investigate the possibility of coloration effect, and then considered the morphological structure and physical characteristics such as water permeation ability and washing fastness. Change in color was estimated on the basis of CIELAB color system. The color coordination of metal plated PET was shifted to yellow-red from red-blue. Colour difference$({\Delta}E^*)$ was increased by sputtering conditions with increasing ion current and treatment time. Especially, $Lightness(L^*)$ value of PET was remarkably increased by sputtering, whereas $Chroma(C^*)$ increased gradually. From SEM analysis, rough and uneven craters were found and thickened on the fiber surfaces with longer sputtering time. And washing fastness was a little poor and absorption ability slightly decreased. There were little changes of breaking load and breaking extension. It was evident that observed uneven craters in the plated thin layer resulted in the colour change of PET fabrics by sputtering treatments.

  • In order to study the properties of cochineal color, variation of uv, visible spectra by pH, dyeing properties on the silk in several dyeing conditions and thermodynamic parameter were investigated. Cochineal colors had an unusual to pH, especially had instability in alkali condition. An increase in the dyeing temperature and in time resulted in an increase in the dye content of silk fibers. Concentration of cochineal color in the silk fiber was related to pH and the maximum exhaustion of cochineal colors showed at about pH 3. The value of apparent diffusion coefficients and standard affinities of dyeing increased with the increase of dyeing temperature. The standard heats of dyeing(ΔH°), variation of entropy(ΔS°) and activation energy(E/sub act/) were caculated to be -1.72kcal/mo1, -3.77cal/mo1ㆍdeg and 1.26kcal/mo1, respectively. Silk fabrics were dyed bright red by tin chloride, reddish purple by copper sulfate, and bluish gray by iron sulfate, respectively. Lightfastness of silk fabrics mordanted by metal ion was weak.
