The Interfacial characteristics between various heavy metals and hydrous FeS were investigated. Heavy metals which have lower sulfide solubilities than FeS undergoes the lecttice exchange reaction when these metal tons contact FeS In the aqueous phase. For heavy metals which have higher suede solubilities than FeS, these metal ions adsorb on the surface of FeS. Such characteristic reactions were interpreted by the soled solution formation theory. The presence of ligand such as EDTA reduced largely metal removal efficiency due to formation of metal-ligand complex In the solution. In an attempt to elucidate the Interfacial characteristics, zeta potential of the hydrous FeS In the absence and In the presence of various metal loons were measured and analyzed.

Several finite element models for the leak-before-break (LBB) assessment of overlay dissimilar metal weldment were constructed and analyzed to develop a simple finite element modeling method. The J-integral, crack opening displacement (COD) and J-integral distribution along the crack front in thickness direction due to the applied moment were obtained from the analysis results of the constructed finite element models, and studied compared to the previous literatures. It is concluded that the modeling with base material only is simple and produces a slightly conservative results compared to the complex modeling composed with weld metal and base metal in the calculation of J-integrals and COD values which are used for the calculation of fracture toughness and postulated leakage crack length respectively.

Additive manufacturing(AM) can create complex shapes directly in 3D CAD models with internal geometry compared to conventional subtraction manufacturing. AM technology has the advantage of adopting various materials as well as the reduction of material. However, the high cost of AM is still a significant barrier preventing the wider adoption of AM in industries. This paper analyzes the technical application cases for solving these entry barriers and proposes a bi-metal 3D printing technology as an anticipated application to overcome the difficulty. The paper investigates the complications for current 3D metal printing technology to conduct bi-metal 3D printing and addresses ongoing solution research based on laser technology.
Heterobimetallic complexes have a donor-accepter metal-metal bond in which two electrons from the electron-rich metal moiety are donated to the other electron-deficient one. Based on the competition reactions, Cotton-Kraihanzel force constants, ν(CO)IR band resolution and the relative nucleophilicity comparison of the donor ligands, the following relative ligating ability of the donor ligands toward $M(CO)_5$ (M=Cr, W) is assessed: cis-HW$(CO)_4P(OMe)_3^-$, $HW(CO)_5^-$ > $HCr(CO)_5^-$-$Br^-$ > trans-HFe$(CO)_3P(OMe)_3^-$ > $Mn(CO)_5^-$ > $HFe(CO)_4^-$ > PP$h_3$

Recently, metal additive manufacturing (AM) is being investigated as a new manufacturing technology. In metal AM, powder bed fusion (PBF) is a promising technology that can be used to manufacture small and complex metallic components by selectively fusing each powder layer using an energy source such as laser or an electron beam. PBF includes selective laser melting (SLM) and electron beam melting (EBM). SLM uses high power-density laser to melt and fuse metal powders. EBM is similar to SLM but melts metals using an electron beam. When these processes are applied, the mechanical properties and microstructures change due to the many parameters involved. Therefore, this study is conducted to investigate the effects of the parameters on the mechanical properties and microstructures such that the processes can be performed more economically and efficiently.
Various thiocyanatoammine chromium complex salts are prepared by the known methods and the Rf. value of these complex salts are determined by four developers. These four developers were used in the paper chromatographical work of cobalt complex salts by Yamamoto in 1954. It was also found that the developer A (Ch$_{3}$OH, acetone, NH$_{4}$OH) gave best results of these four developers and the decending development gave better results than ascending development in this experiment. In the case of decending development using developer A, it is found that the Rf. value is increased with the number of thiocyanate radical. The reason of this curious results can be explained that the thiocyanate radical in the complex ion is more active for the organic solvent than ammine radical. Shifting of electrons to the central metal and the charge of the complex ion can also effect ot the Rf. value but much questions are remained for the explanation of the above curious phenomenon. Separation of mixed sample is also studied for various mixture of the above complex salts. In the case of the mixture of hexammine and diammine complex salt, the clear separation is possible but in almost all other mixed sample, the results are not clear. Therefore it can be said that the results of this work can be used in the qualitative analysis of the individual complex salts, except the mixed sample of hexammine and diammine complex salts.
Formation of metal complex is the first step in the many biological actions of metal ions present in the biological systems. In this work the not electron affinity necessary for the formation of such metal complexes has been determined for a series of metal ions. It has been found that excess polarizing strength can be adopted as a measure of electron affinity and trend is the excess polarizing strength is related to Irving-Williams series. Those metal ions having greater than 0.22 in value of excess polarizing strength have been found to show carcinogenicity and other metal ions, which are supposed to be carcinogenic, have shows to have greater than 0. 22 in value of excess polarizing strength, demonstrating that excess polarizing strength could be used to determine if any metal ion possesses carcinogenic activity.
The studies on the potentiality of biomonitoring heavy metal pollution in coastal region of industrial complex were performed to investigate the heavy metal accumulation and induction of metal-binding protein (MBP) as detoxification process using Rumex maritimus. Bioconcentration in organs and MBP in root of R. maritimus was investigated for the research of the tolerance of heavy metals. The bioconcentration of cadmium and zinc in organs showed 3.6-8.0 times in root higher than in shoot, so it was found that heavy metal accumulated selectively in root. MBP increased absorbance in 254 nm and decreased in 280 nm, because it was composed of high cystein content and low aromatic acids, so absorbance had large difference between 254 nm and 280 nm. The existence of MBP in the 10-20 fraction was ascertained with anion exchange chromatography and it was identified that concentration of heavy metal increased according as an exposure concentration of medium increased in QAE Sephadex A-25 elution profile. These results suggested that MBP could play a role in biomarker determining the bioconcentration of plant. This study demonstrated a possibility that removal ability of heavy metal of R. maritimus resulted from detoxification process and MBP could be utilized as a biomarker of heavy metal pollution.
In this study, we investigated the inhibition effects of single and mixed heavy metal ions ($Zn^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;and\;Cd^{2+}$) on iron oxidation by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. Effects of metals on the iron oxidation activity of A. ferrooxidans are categorized into four types of patterns according to its oxidation behavior. The results indicated that the inhibition effects of the metals on the iron oxidation activity were noncompetitive inhibitions. We proposed a reduced inhibition model, along with the reduced inhibition constant ($\alpha_i$), which was derived from the inhibition constant ($K_I$) of individual metals and represented the tolerance of a given inhibitor relative to that of a reference inhibitor. This model was used to evaluate the toxicity effect (inhibition effect) of metals on the iron oxidation activity of A. ferrooxidans. The model revealed that the iron oxidation behavior of the metals, regardless of metal systems (single, binary, ternary, or quaternary), is closely matched to that of any reference inhibitor at the same reduced inhibition concentration, $[I]_{reduced}$, which defines the ratio of the inhibitor concentration to the reduced inhibition constant. The model demonstrated that single metal systems and mixed metal systems with the same reduced inhibitor concentrations have similar toxic effects on microbial activity.
The flame retardancies by the addition of metal powder and flame retardant were evaluated to present as the fundamental data to decrease the fire hazard of polymers and life losses by suffocation and poisoning. For this study, the experiments of flame retardancy were conducted as follows : weight loss rate using thermogravimetric analysis, the measurement of the limiting oxygen index(LOI) and char yield. And smoke mass concentration and CO yield were measured. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene containing metal powder and flame retardant reduced weight loss rate and increased LOI and char yield with the decreased smoke mass concentration and CO yield. It was found that the most effective complex was tricresyl phosphate-Mo complex.
