  • A distributed high-speed data acquisition and monitoring system for the RF negative ion source at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is developed, which consists of data acquisition, data forwarding and data processing. Firstly, the data acquisition modules sample physical signals at high speed and upload the sampling data with corresponding absolute-time labels over UDP, which builds the time correlation among different signals. And a special data packet format is proposed for the data upload, which is convenient for packing or parsing a fixed-length packet, especially when the span of the time labels in a packet crosses an absolute second. The data forwarding modules then receive the UDP messages and distribute their data packets to the real-time display module and the data storage modules by PUB/SUB-pattern message queue of ZeroMQ. As for the data storage, a scheme combining the file server and MySQL database is adopted to increase the storage rate and facilitate the data query. The test results show that the loss rate of the data packets is within the range of 0-5% and the storage rate is higher than 20 Mbps, both acceptable for the HUST RF negative ion source.

  • Mobile IP provides an efficient and scalable mechanism for host mobility within the Internet. Using Mobile If, mobile nodes may change their point of attachment to the Internet without changing their If address. However, it would result in a high signaling cost. To reduce the signaling cost, we factor in the fact that mobile users will not be actively communicating much of the time. In fact, there Is no necessity to send a binding update message to the home agent when an mobile node does not communicates with others while moving. From this point of view, we propose a lazy update strategy for minimizing signaling cost using the forwarding pointer in hierarchical Mobile IPv6. In our proposal, binding updates are sent only when a mobile node is in a busy mode. If an mobile node is in a dormant mode, binding update messages are delayed until busy mode using the forwarding pointer. As a result, our proposal can reduce the total signaling cost by eliminating unnecessary binding update messages when a mobile node Is in a dormant mode. In addition to, our proposal reduces unnecessary location update cost resulting from ping-pong effect under mobile node's dormant mode. Analysis results using the discrete analytic model presented in this paper shows that our proposal can has superior performance than hierarchical Mobile nv6 when the call-to-mobility ratio is low and the length of the forwarding pointer chain K is low.

  • Wireless mesh networks(WMNs) are wireless backbone networks technology consisting of a multi-hop routers. Location management is essential to provide a service to the terminal in WMNs. IEEE 802.11s standards have two basic location management scheme for location management - the proxy registration procedure and the associated station discovery protocol. These basic schemes, however, suffer from serious drawbacks including redundancy control message, ineffective location information maintenance, additional delay time. This paper propose an on-demand station location management scheme using 6-address structure of IEEE 802.11s. Through analysis and experimental evaluation on simulation, we show that proposal scheme reduce control message and forwarding delay time.

  • Location Service is required in position-based routing for VANET to provide position information. We propose Grid-based Location service spot(GLSS) scheme for optimized routing path to improve accessibility and load balance in location service. Specific area is defined as Location service spot(LSS) on each grid in this scheme, and all nodes in the grid geocast its location update message and location request message to each LSS. Location request messages are flooded throughout LSSs, location reply messages establish optimized route from the source grid to the destination grid. We evaluated GLSS which establishes optimized route on the grid comparing GPSR in consideration of road condition and geographical features.

  • Existing application systems of enterprises can process and collect a lot of information within enterprises, but it could be difficult to share validated information with partners and other system in the process of contacting to other legacy systems required in cooperation environment. For solving these problems, EAI systems are introduced in cooperation environment so that data sharing and integration can be achieved. The integration based on EAI is not limited to particular business system but all systems of an enterprise so that standard of suitable metadata level is needed for forwarding consistently between each business of systems. Therefore this paper maintains consistency of data sharing and integrating among legacy systems in cooperative environment for proposing message exchanging based on bridge XMDR.

  • Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSN) are usually constrained in energy supply, which makes energy efficiency a key factor to extend the network lifetime. The management of the network topology has been widely used as a mechanism to enhance the lifetime of wireless sensor networks (WSN), and this work presents an alternative to this. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a well-known technology in data center applications that separates the data and control planes during the network management. This paper proposes a solution based on SDN that optimizes the energy use in MWSN. The network intelligence is placed in a controller that can be accessed through different controller gateways within a MWSN. This network intelligence runs a Topology Control (TC) mechanism to build a backbone of coordinator nodes. Therefore, nodes only need to perform forwarding tasks, they reduce message retransmissions and CPU usage. This results in an improvement of the network lifetime. The performance of the proposed solution is evaluated and compared with a distributed approach using the OMNeT++ simulation framework. Results show that the network lifetime increases when 2 or more controller gateways are used.

  • Sensor networks are often deployed in unattended environments, thus leaving these networks vulnerable to false data injection attacks in which an adversary injects forged reports into the network through compromised nodes. Such attacks by compromised sensors can cause not only false alarms but also the depletion of the finite amount of energy in a battery powered network. In order to reduce damage from these attacks, several security solutions have been proposed. Researchers have also proposed some techniques to increase the energy-efficiency of such security solutions. In this paper, we propose a CH(Cluster Header) selection algorithm to choose low power delivery method in sensor networks. The CNP(Contract Net Protocol), which is an approach to solve distribution problems, is applied to choose CHs for event sensing. As a result of employing CNP, the proposed method can prevent dropping of sensing reports with an insufficient number of message authentication codes during the forwarding process, and is efficient in terms of energy saving.

  • This paper proposes a multipath routing protocol called cross-layer multipath AODV (CM-AODV) for wireless ad hoc networks, which selects multiple routes on demand based on the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) measured at the physical layer. Note that AODV (Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) is one of the most popular routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks. Each time a route request (RREQ) message is forwarded hop by hop, each forwarding node updates the route quality which is defined as the minimum SINR of serialized links in a route and is contained in the RREQ header. While achieving robust packet delivery, the proposed CM-AODV is amenable to immediate implementation using existing technology by neither defining additional packet types nor increasing packet length. Compared to the conventional multipath version of AODV (which is called AOMDV), CM-AODV assigns the construction of multiple paths to the destination node and makes it algorithmically simple, resulting in the improved performance of packet delivery and the less overhead incurred at intermediate nodes. Our performance study shows that CM-AODV significantly outperforms AOMDV in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay, and results in less routing overhead.

  • The home network has been revitalized due to the emergence of the high-speed broadband network and explosive increases of the home network services. Especially multicast based high-definition (HD) IPTV service is on high demand from both Internet service provider (ISP) and users. In order to provide high quality HD IPTV service without packet loss and delay, the ISP utilizes various network QoS mechanisms. Due to the misleading fact, that the home gateway is considered as an end terminal in terms of the ISP's viewpoint, the ISPs can not guarantee the end-to-end QoS within the scope of the current home network architecture. Therefore, an independent QoS guaranteed mechanism should be considered within the home network domain. As the home gateway manages both private home and public access network within the home network, we propose and implement a novel QoS mechanism for the multicast based HD IPTV service over the home gateway. In order to provide QoS guaranteed HD IPTV service, the proposed mechanism classifies the packets, manages home network bandwidth resources, and executes call admission control using the channel join message. Also, we utilize layer 2 multicast packet forwarding scheme to improve the overall performance of the home network services. Through the experiments of implementing the multicast based HD IPTV services, we will verify the efficiency of the proposed mechanism.

  • This article presents a novel cooperative spectrum sharing (CSS) scheme. The primary transmitter transmits a complex Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal in the first phase, and CSS occurs in the second phase. The secondary transmitter with the largest forwarding channel gain among the nodes that successfully decode the primary signal in the first phase is selected for CSS. This selected node employs a pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) signal for primary information message (IM) instead of the QAM signal, and it employs a modified PAM signal for the secondary IM. The proposed modified PAM signal depends on the amplitude of the primary PAM signal. This method results in no mutual interference and negligible primary interference constraint and allows a higher degree of exploitation of spatial diversity, thus enabling increase in secondary power to improve primary transmission. The outage performance is enhanced in both the primary and secondary systems. The critical region, in which the primary outage performance is enhanced with the proposed CSS scheme, can be adjusted and widened by varying either the modulation cooperation sharing factor or the number of secondary transmitters.
