  • To prepare mesoporous $TiO_2$ ($meso-TiO_2$) with anatase and rutile crystal structures, hydrothermal and template synthesis were used. $Meso-TiO_2$ with anatase structure was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis. The crystal structure of $meso-TiO_2$ by hydrothermal synthesis converted from anatase to rutile by simple heating at $600^{\circ}C$ and above. However, their mesopore structure collapsed due to phase transition. To prepare $meso-TiO_2$ with rutile structure, template synthesis method was applied using mesoporous silica KIT-6 as a template. Once we incorporated anatase $TiO_2$ inside mesopores of silica, the phase transition temperature of $TiO_2$ confined inside KIT-6 was much higher ($900^{\circ}C$) than that of free-standing $TiO_2$ ($600^{\circ}C$). The suppression of $TiO_2$ phase transition inside mesopores of KIT-6 is closely related with the interaction between $TiO_2$ surface and silica walls in KIT-6 because oxygen vacancy in $TiO_2$ is regarded as the starting point for phase transition. After removal of silica template by NaOH solution washing, $meso-TiO_2$ with mixed phase between anatase and rutile was obtained.

  • Preparation of $AlPMo_{12}O_{40}$ (AlPMo) salts, supported on mesostructured SBA-15 silica, by the reaction deposition strategy causes the formation of isolated AlPMo nanocrystals inside the nanotubular channels. The remarkable characteristic of the SBA-15 structure is that all the cylindrical pores are connected by some small channels. This makes the whole pore system in SBA-15 three-dimensional. We have used 2D hexagonal SBA-15 silicas as hard templates for the nanofabrication of AlPMo salt nanocrystal. The oxidation of alcohols occurs effectively and selectively with $H_2O_2$ as the oxidant. AlPMo salt nanocrystal was used as the catalyst.

  • In this study, we investigated the activity of Pd and Cu co-incorporated on mesoporous silica support such as MCM-41 and SBA-15 for catalytic nitrate reduction in water. In pure hydrogen flow, nitrate concentration was gradually decreased with the reaction time, but nitrogen selectivity was too low due to very high pH of reaction medium after the reaction. In order to acquire high nitrogen selectivity, we utilized carbon dioxide as a pH buffer, which resulted in higher nitrogen selectivity (about 40%). For the above reaction conditions, Pd-Cu/MCM-41 showed better performance than Pd-Cu/SBA-15. The physicochemical properties of both catalysts were investigated to figure out the relationship between the characteristics of the catalysts and the catalytic activity on the catalytic nitrate reduction by $N_2$ adsoprtion-desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), $H_2$-temperature programmed reduction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques.

  • Fischer Tropsch reaction is one of the interesting topic for renewable and clean energy. Polymerization of carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide with hydrogen over metal supported catalyst can produce long chain hydrocarbons. Synthetic liquid hydrocarbons are promising alternative to fossil fuels. This research work has been focused on the synthesis of Fe based catalyst for Fischer Tropsch reaction. Mesoporous silica (MS) support prepared by a precipitation method using two different washing solution, distilled water (DW) and acid in ethanol solution (ET), and different calcination temperature. Then, Fe/MS was prepared by an incipient wetness impregnation method. All of samples were systematically characterized using various physical and chemical techniques. TEM and XRD analysis were used to ensure that the cubic Ia3d mesostructure is stable after calcination. FTIR spectra are useful to ascertain the existence of template in the support. TPR studies were also used to understand the nature of Fe species and their reducibility. The results reveal that washing the support with distilled water and calcination at $550^{\circ}C$ can efficiently remove the triblock copolymer templates. The existence of template in the support affects the textural properties of all catalyst investigated.

  • The CO preferential oxidation reaction (PROX) has been done using Cu catalytic active species supported on some of mesoporous silica materials which can facilitate the diffusion of the reactants in order to prevent the poisoning of anode active materials by CO molecules during driving polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEMFC) in this study. As a result when SBA-15 with large pore used as a support showed excellent CO oxidation activity, especially the activity increased in proportion to the amount of supported Cu. Ti components which was inserted to increase the degree of dispersion of Cu, contributed to improving the performance for CO oxidation at low-temperature. The degree of dispersion of Cu ingredients was the best in the catalyst inserted 20 mol-% Ti into the framework of SBA-15, and CO oxidation activity was also improved.

  • A Fe-containing mesoporous silica (Fe-MCM-41) in which part of Si in the framework was replaced by Fe(Si-O-Fe) has been successfully prepared using $Fe^{3+}$ salt by a direct synthesis route. Physical properties of the material were characterized by XRD, $N_2$ adsorption, SEM/TEM, UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies. Fe-MCM-41 exhibited high catalytic activity in phenol hydroxylation using $H_2O_2$ as oxidant, giving phenol conversion of ca. 60% at $50^{\circ}C$ [phenol : $H_2O_2$ = 1:1, water solvent]. Fe-MCM-41 was also applied to the growth of CNTs, utilizing a thermal-CVD reactor using acetylene gas, which demonstrated that multi-wall CNTs could be prepared efficiently using the Fe-MCM-41 catalyst.

  • The silica-pillared H-kenyaites were prepared by interlarmellar base-catalyzed reaction of tetraethylorthosilicate [TEOS, Si(OC2H5)4] intercalated into the interlayer of H-kenyaite. The intercalation of TEOS was conducted by the octylamine preswelling process, resulting in a dramatic increase in gallery height to 24.7 Å. The interlamellar hydrolysis of octylamine-TEOS/H-kenyaite paste were conducted between 10 min and 40 min in 0.00%, 0.05% and 0.10% NH3-water solution respectively, and resulting in siloxane-pillared H-kenyajte with gallery height of 28.2-31.8 Å. The calcination of samples at 538 ℃ resulted in silica-pillared H-kenyaites with a large surface areas between 411 m2/g and 885 m2/g, depending on the aging time and NH3 concentration. Samples with optimum specific surface areas and well ordered-basal spacing were obtained by reaction between 10 min and 40 min in pure water and 0.05% NH3-water solution. Mesoporous samples with narrow pore size distribution were also prepared by reaction for 10-40 min in 0.05% NH3 solution. Rapid interlamellar reaction of TEOS in pure water showed that intercalated octylamine itself could act as a base catalyst during interlamellar polycondensation of TEOS.
