OXC structure for MPλS merging implementation based on WDM network (WDM망 기반의 MPλS merging 구현을 위한 OXC 구조)

  • The explosion of the Internet has brought an acute need for efficient operation, which becomes to develop several technologies based on optical networks. By matching merging technology using wavelength multiplexing, an efficient administration with limited wavelength can provide scalability of network. The merging in optical layer has limitation of devices since the merging can not be performed in this layer. Hence the merging must be implemented in electronic layer. When the merging is implemented, the delay time would be increased in OXC (Optical Cross Connection), but the improvement of throughput rate will be expected in the process of explosive traffic due to reduction of optical channel supporting large bandwidth. In this thesis, we proposed an OXC of dual module having a merging function. We considered the optimum merging point with the largest in system performance and confirmed results using the simulation.

  • Even though algorithms for watermark embedding and extraction step are important issue for digital watermarking, watermark selection and post-processing can give us an opportunity to improve our algorithms and achieve higher performance. For this reason, we summarized the possibilities of improvements for digital watermarking by referring to the watermark merging techniques rather than embedding and extraction algorithms in this paper. We chose Cox's function as main embedding and extraction algorithm, and multiple barcode watermarks as a watermark. Each bit of the multiple copies of barcode watermark was embedded into a gray-scale image with Cox's embedding function. After extracting the numbers of watermark, we applied the watermark merging techniques; including the simple merging, N-step iterated merging, recover merging and combination of iterated-recover merging. Main consequence of our paper was the fact of finding out how multiple barcode watermarks and merging techniques can give us opportunities to improve the performance of algorithm.

  • Branching and merging have been being the outstanding methods for SCM in terms of supporting parallel developments. Since well-known commercial merging tools based on textual merging have not detecting semantics conflicts, they can cause semantic errors in the result of merging. Although a lot of researches for detecting semantic conflict and merging up to recently, these researches have been doing individually. Therefore, it is necessary for a research detecting semantic conflict on textual merging and solving it. In this paper, we propose a new method for merging which preserve semantics on textual merging. The method merging two revisions from a source program is as follows : 1) defining changing operations, which include Update, Delete, and Insert operation, per line on two revisions corresponding to the line in source program, 2) detecting textual conflicts and semantic conflict in terms of executional behaviors, 3) solving these conflicts before merging. So, the proposed method can be regarded as a hybrid method that combines a method of textual merging and a behavioral semantic merging.

Experimental Investigation on the Flapping Motions of Horizontal Merging Buoyant Jet Discharged into Stationary Ambient Water (정체수역으로 방류된 수평병합부력제트의 진동운동에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • A series of experiments has been performed to investigate the flapping motion, which has been generally considered as an intrinsic characteristic of plane flow, of the horizontal merging buoyant jet discharged into stationary ambient water. For Horizontal merging buoyant jets, the flapping motions has been observed and the average onsets of flapping motion coincided with the start of merging transition. The Strouhal number, which describes the measure of frequency of vortices on the flow boundary with respect to the local properties of the flow, varies and converges to a constant value over merging transition. Considering the merging transition and the variation of local flow properties, the characteristics of flapping motion of plane flow can be applied to merging buoyant jets.

Correlation between galaxy mergers and AGN activity

  • Using deep images taken at Maidanak 1.5m telescope, at McDonald 2.1m telescope and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, Dupont 2.5m telescope we investigated the fraction of merging galaxies in hosts of 39 AGN which are brighter than M = -22 mag and nearer than z = 0.3. We found that 16 to 17 of 39 AGN host galaxies show the evidence of mergers like tidal tail, shell via careful visual inspection. We also studied with the merging fraction of a control sample, SDSS Stripe82 early type galaxies of which surface brightness limit and bulge magnitude are similar to that of the AGN sample. We found that merging fraction of the AGN sample is higher than that of early type galaxy samples in the whole range of bulge magnitude. This result implies that AGN activity may be correlated with merging. We also investigated the detailed morphology of merging feature. At least - 1/4 of control samples classified as a tidal and tidal+dust are shell structures. On the other hand only one (5.9%) of AGN sample classified as merger shows shell structures, and almost all merging AGNs show tidal tail features. From point of view that tidal tail may be at the early stage of merging, and shell may be at the late stage of mergers, this result suggests that AGN might be evolved into early-type galaxies after merging.

The Optical and IR Properties of Peculiar early-type galaxies from Stripe82 and WISE Data

  • Galaxy merging plays a important role to the formation and evolution of galaxy. Early-type galaxies are believed to be formed by galaxy merging. We combined 3 color images in g,r,i band using Stripe82 image of which the surface brightness is 2 mag deeper than that of SDSS image. We classified early-type galaxies which have the merging features, the evidence of galaxy mergers through careful visual inspection. We investigated the IR properties of early-type galaxies with the merging feature using WISE data. We analyzed the star formation according to the type of galaxy. Early-type galaxies with the merging feature show the higher star formation than non-merging galaxies, but the difference is not significant. This results implies that quite a few early-type galaxies might be formed by dry merger, not wet merger. Meanwhile, the most of ULIRGs show tidal tail, on the other hand, early-type galaxies show tidal tail including shell structure. It suggests that ULIRGs have more gas and it might be in early stage of galaxy merging, early-type galaxies might be in the late stage of galaxy merging.

Comparison of Image Merging Methods for Producing High-Spatial Resolution Multispectral Images (고해상도 다중분광영상 제작을 위한 합성방법의 비교)

  • Image merging techniques have been developed to integrate the advantage of different data type. The objective of this study is to present the optimal method for merging high spatial resolution panchromatic image, such as the latest commercial satellite data, and low spatial resolution mulitspectral images. For this study, a set of 2m resolution panchromatic and 8m resolution mulitspectral data were simulated by using airborne mulitspectral data. Five merging methods of MWD, IHS, PCA, HPF, and CN were applied to produce four bands of high spatial resolution mulitspectral data. Merging results were evaluated by visual interpretation, image statistics, semivariogram, and spectral characteristics. From the aspects of both spatial resolution and spectral information, the wavelet-based MWD merging method have shown very similar results compared with the original data used for the merging.

  • Ontology merging describes the process of integrating two ontologies into a new ontology. How this is done best is a subject of ongoing research in the Semantic Web, Data Integration, Knowledge Management System, and other ontology-related application systems. Earlier research on ontology merging, however, has studied for developing effective ontology matching approaches but missed analyzing and solving methods of problems of merging two ontologies given correspondences between them. In this paper, we propose a specific ontology merging process and a generic operator, T-MERGE, for integrating two source ontologies into a new ontology. Also, we define a taxonomy of merging conflicts which is derived from differing representations between input ontologies and a method for detecting and resolving them. Our T-MERGE operator encapsulates the process of detection and resolution of conflicts and merging two entities based on given correspondences between them. We define a data structure, MergeLog, for logging the execution of T-MERGE operator. MergeLog is used to inform detailed results of execution of merging to users or recover errors. For our experiments, we used oriental philosophy ontologies, western philosophy ontologies, Yahoo western philosophy dictionary, and Naver philosophy dictionary as input ontologies. Our experiments show that the automatic merging module compared with manual merging by a expert has advantages in terms of time and effort.

Analysis of Critical Time Headway and Capacity for Freeway Merging Area (고속도로 합류부 임계차두간격 및 용량 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of the paper is to analyze the traffic characteristics for freeway merging area. Freeway merging area is different from basic section due to ramp vehicles. Therefore, to understand the traffic characteristics of (leeway merging area, this study focused on two factors including critical time headway required in merging maneuver and maximum possible merging volume. In this paper, new model that adopts critical time headway instead of critical time gap in calculating the maximum possible merging volume based on probability function was developed In previous studies, for calculating the maximum possible merging volume, it was considered that merging vehicles could merge freely if a given time gap was greater than the critical time gap. Also, the critical time gap was used as the same value in all traffic flow conditions. But, a time gap required in merging maneuver could be changed, even to the same driver, because difference of relative speed varies in different traffic flow conditions. So, in some cases, the critical time gap could be insufficient value in merging maneuver. Therefore, in this study. a calculating procedure for critical time headway in all traffic flow conditions was presented. Also, the maximum possible merging volume and capacity for freeway merging area were calculated by using the previously found critical time headway.
