For the ranks of respondents in terms of demographic features, the sergeants and corporals were 43.2%(186) and 29.7%(128) apiece. It was identified that the diversity of menu and significant influences as 57.5%. Thus, it is necessary to diversity the menus more than the present menus to increase the satisfaction of new generation on military meal services. The most influential factor on the diversity of menu was the hard-boiled food as 29.9% among 15 items. Therefore, the first measure to intensify the satisfaction of soldiers on meal services is to diversity the hard-boiled food. Accordingly, this measure will contribute to relieve the most biggest complaints on the diversity of menu in military meal services. For this purpose, it is recommended to replace the kitchen work system consisted of kitchen polices with the non-officer system enabling the long-term service. The kitchen polices are transferred to the first reserve list when they are accustomed to their duties because the period of service is limited under the present kitchen police system. Therefore, the present kitchen police system has the problem that it can't overcome the limit in terms of the quality of meal service.

  • This study was performed to evaluate served menu in Korean temples. Among available temples in the nation, 34 temples were carefully selected considering location and the gender characteristics. A five consecutive day menu was collected to analyse by interview between Jan 2004 and Aug 2004. Mean energy content of menu was 1633.8 kcal, with 67.3% of energy supplied by carbohydrate, 14.8% by protein and 17.9% by fat. Beans and bean products were the major contributing dishes for most nutrients. Contents of most nutrients except energy, protein and vitamin B were higher than RDA. Nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) were 0.9-1.0 and mean adequacy ratio (MAR) was 0.9 for temples. Total number of dishes from menu was 7.3. Dietary variety score (DVS) was 26.4 and buddhist monk temples offered more diverse foods than buddhist nun temples. KDQI (Korean diet Quality Index), overall diet quality index were 0.67 and those of buddhist nun temples were better than those of buddhist monk temples. From the result of this study it was concluded that the temple diet is nutritionally well balanced, rich in dietary fiber and low in cholesterol. So it can be a healthy diet for the modern person. This is the very first study attempting the nationwide investigation of temple diet in Korea. It will be used as fundamental data to improve quality of diet to prevent modern chronic disease.

  • Many electronic products employ menu-driven interfaces for user-system dialogue. Unlike the software user interfaces, a small single-line display, such as a Liquid Crystal Display, is typically used to present menu items. Since the display can show only a single menu item at a time, more serious navigation problems are expected with single-line display menus(SDM). This study attempts to provide a set of unique guidelines for the design of the SDM based on empirical results. A human factors experiment was conducted to examine the effects of four design variables: menu structure, user experience, navigation aid, and number of targets. The usability of design alternatives was measured quantitatively in four different aspects, which were speed, accuracy, inefficiency of navigation, and subjective user preference. The analysis of variance was used to test the statistical effects of the design variables and their interaction effects. A set of design guidelines was drawn from the results which can be applied to the design of human-system interfaces of a wide variety of electronic consumer products using such displays. Since more generalized guidelines could be provided by constructing prediction models based on the empirical data, some powerful performance models are also required for the SDM. As a preliminary study, a survey was done on the performance models for ordinary computer menus.
