  • This study used general qualitative research and G-PhotoVoice methods to study the experience of psychiatric patients participating in vocational rehabilitation programs in daytime hospitals. The researcher in this study conducted interviews more than two times with five patients who took part in the program and data was also collected from additional conversations while patients were admitted or on outpatient visit after being discharged from the day hospital. In addition, semi-structured group interview with photos was also conducted. As a result of the study, the participants' experience of participating in the day hospital vocational rehabilitation program was found to be "experiencing difficulties in vocational activities," "joying working together," "getting a sense of stability," and "feeling that they have grown."Based on these findings, this study discussed the implications of activating vocational rehabilitation in daytime hospitals and promoting the growth of psychiatric patients.

  • This study aims to explore the theoretical and practical potentials of the late modern social space theories concerning deinstitutionalization issues in the field of the Mental Health. Deinstitutionalization, the process of converting the living space mentally ill people from facilities to the community, is a meaningful event realizing the modern ideology of human rights and welfare in social work territory. Although the continuos and accumulative efforts to realize the ideas of deinstitutionalization, which have focused on the ideological validity and the conditions and administrative supports needed for materialization, however, discussing the issues without analyzing late modern societal space neglects the constraints of the generic and comprehensive 'space' in which the deinstitutionalization can actually occur. Thus, this study attempts the following by analyzing the concrete reality of social space: focusing on deinstitutionalization in a larger social context, different from previous studies that discussed it on a normative and fragmentary level; and more concretely analyzing the realistic limits and challenges facing deinstitutionalization. In order to do this, previous literature related to deinstitutionalization is laid out and theories of late modern social space are studied. Based on this, the kinds of phenomenon that occur when this sort of late modern social space meets with the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill people are analyzed. Finally, based on the results, the study suggests several implications to realize the rights and welfare of mentally in the late modern space concerning deinstitutionalization.

  • This study examines factors affecting correction officer's preference toward institute for forensic psychiatric. The data were collected from the correction officers who worked at the six correctional facilities in 2019. Binary logistic regression was used to find the factors on the officer's preference. The result showed that the correction officers had their own preference toward prison for forensic psychiatric, and the preference was positively related to the age of the officer, work experience at the mental health center, mentally-ill prisoner's fighting as the rule-violation in prison, refusal of medical treatment, and lack of laws and regulations for the mentally-ill prisoners. In contrast, there was a negative relationship between the officer's rank and the preference for forensic psychiatric. More work needs to be done in the future research to collect more samples and include a broader ranger of variables than now.

  • This study reviewed the important preceding studies of prevention and treatment of the crimes and therapies on the characteristics of mental illness, trying to investigate and identify more effective ways to prevent, decrease the crimes of the mentally ill and treat them. The main results were as follows. First, relationships between mental illness and crimes have been inconsistently reported, to investigate environmental stresses and triggers of the mentally ill additionally. Second, the term 'mentally illness' was to be defined more specifically, such as severe psychiatric disabled, antisocial personality disorder, intellectual disability, anger·impulse control disorder, and drug abuse. If medication and psychosocial treatments were properly treated to the severe psychiatric disabled, their crime incidence and recidivism will be decrease enough to live with their neighbors in community. But the ways and processes of treating antisocial personality disorder, intellectual disability, anger·impulse control disorder, and drug abuse were very different from it, requiring more intense psychological, medical and biological interventions and social seclusion. The national campaigns and projects for their human rights and community care will be needed to promote the therapeutic effects for them. The limitation and future tasks were discussed.

  • This is an integrative review paper of Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) simulation programs in the mental health area including the analysis of the general characteristics, contents, and the impact of the interventions studies. The keywords used to search the studies were "AR/VR" and "medical/nursing students". The author and a postdoctoral research fellow searched four electronic databases: Web of Science, PubMed, EmBase, and CINHA, and as a result nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Among the selected studies AR/VR simulation programs in the mental health area for healthcare professionals were found to be effective in clinical skills as well as for the interpersonal relationship and the stigma of mentally ill patients. Providing an opportunity to experience a safe and effective tool is important when educating health professionals and AR/VR simulation programs are safe and effective. Thus, standardized AR/VR simulation programs are needed to be developed for health professionals.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing the outcome of psychosocial rehabilitation for persons with chronic mental illness and to suggest a hypothetical model of psychosocial rehabilitation which is based on the relationship between influencing factors and then to test its fitness empirically. Method: Data was collected from persons with a chronic mental illness using a self-report questionnaire, and from their case managers using an observed rating questionnaire. A total of 220 cases were used in the final analysis, and a hypothetical model was verified through covariance structure analysis using LISREL. Result: 1) The fitness indices of the model were $X^2=133.77$ (df=48, p=.00), GFI=0.93, AGFI=0.87, RMR=2.32, NNFI=0.95 and NFI=0.95. Twelve paths among fifteen proved to be significant. 2) Psychosocial rehabilitation was influenced directly by symptoms, daily living skill and self-concept, and was influenced indirectly by the psychosocial rehabilitation program service. Psychosocial rehabilitation accounted for 32% of variance of these factors. Conclusion: This study is expected to contribute to understanding the psychosocial rehabilitation phenomena. Besides it will provide basic information for developing strategies of bio-psycho-sociological interventions and evaluations in regard to influential factors of psychosocial rehabilitation.

  • Having gone through socioeconomic changes from an agricultural to a post-industrial society, mental health system accordingly has been changed. In Korea where the socioeconomic change has been so rapid, the mental health system and law have been behind the socioeconomic system. Post-industrial society needs more humanized and advanced mental health system, however, Korean mental health law reflects ideology of Korean society in industrial age. This paper attempts to assess the significance Korea's Mental Health Law against the backdrop of socioeconomic changes. A substantial part of the report is devoted to identifying discrepancies between Korea's Mental Health Law and the perspectives of post-industrial ideology and areas for improvement. Improvement in mental health law should take place in line with the changes occurring in socioeconomic environments, the social concept of family, and the public awareness of human rights. Korea's mental health law should be changed in a way to improve hospitalization procedure for people with mental illness, promote the opening of mental health facilities and improve the quality of the lives of the mentally ill. Further changes are deemed necessary in the public and media view of mental illness. Also, the national budget will have to be increased with a view to raise the social rights of those with mental illness to receive quality rehabilitation services.
