  • In this paper, an automatic histogram specification method is proposed for image enhancement, Fuzzy membership value is adopted for the representation of image histogram. The desired PDF is automatically constructed by the fuzzy membership value. Fuzzy membership value is extracted from dark membership, bright membership function and original histogram. The effectual results are demonstrated by desired PDF which meet the image enhancement requirements. The performance and effectiveness are shown by the analysis and the resultant image in comparison with histogram equalization method.

The Effect of Membership Concentration in FVQ/HMM for Speaker-Independent Speech Recognition

  • We investigate the effect of membership concentration on the performance of the speaker-independent recognition system by FVQ/HMM. For the membership function, we adopt the result obtained from the objective function approach by Bezdek. Membership concentration is done by varying the exponent in the membership function. The number of selected clusters is constrained to two for the sake of cheap computational cost. Experimental results showed that the recognition rate has its maximum value when the membership function was taken to be inversely proportional to the distance of the input vector from the cluster centroid. When the membership concentration was two weak or too strong, the performance was found to be relatively poor as expected. Except these extreme cases, the membership concentration was not shown to affect the recognition rate significantly. This is in accordance with the general observation that the fuzzy system is not much sensitive. to the detailed shape of the membership function as long as it is overlapped over multiple classes.

  • 삼각 멤버쉽함수는 적용의 간편성으로 인하여 가장 절리 쓰이는 멤버쉽함수이다. 그러므로, 각 삼각형의 밑변의 길이가 퍼지 추론의 결과에 영향을 주는 이유에 대한 해석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 일정 비의 규칙성을 갖는 삼각 멤버쉽함수가 결과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지에 대하여 기하하적인 접근 방법으로 해석해 보았다.

Finding Fuzzy Rules for IRIS by Neural Network with Weighted Fuzzy Membership Function

  • Fuzzy neural networks have been successfully applied to analyze/generate predictive rules for medical or diagnostic data. However, most approaches proposed so far have not considered the weights for the membership functions much. This paper presents a neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions. In our approach, the membership functions can capture the concentrated and essential information that affects the classification of the input patterns. To verify the performance of the proposed model, well-known Iris data set is performed. According to the results, the weighted membership functions enhance the prediction accuracy. The architecture of the proposed neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions and the details of experimental results for the data set is discussed in this paper.

  • From early 1999 years, the mobile telecommunication companies have introduced the mobile telecommunication membership program to attract more customers. However, the severe competition in the mobile telecommunication market has made the mobile telecommunication membership program to be faced with the matured mobile telecommunication market and the mobile number portability. Wain focus of this study is to find what are the core elements of service qualify of the mobile telecommunication membership program. To achieve research objective, we conceptualized the service quality of mobile telecommunication membership program. We also derived hypotheses regarding the relationships between service quality of the program, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty and examined it by using the empirical research methodology. We suggest new marketing strategies of the mobile telecommunication membership program which can be applied to improve the corporate competitiveness.

Price Discount and Membership Features on Trust in Luxury Online Shopping Malls

  • Purpose: This study attempts to explain why online luxury shopping malls have implemented a difficult registration process and membership fees. These features weaken online shopping convenience, one of the major reasons why people shop online instead of offline. Therefore, this study scrutinizes the effects of membership features on trust, focusing on the moderating effects of registration difficulty and membership fees. Research design, data and methodology: A survey method with a total of 296 survey data was used. A 2 × 2 × 2 factorial design was employed. The three independent variables are price discount rate (20% vs. 70%), registration difficulty (low vs. high), and membership fees (yes vs. no). Results: The results reveal that a price discount rate has a negative effect on trust, whereas membership fees and registration difficulty moderate its negative effect on trust. Conclusions: A high price discount rate lowers trust for online luxury shopping malls. Meanwhile, registration difficulty and membership fees can be used to prevent consumers from losing trust caused by the high price discount rate. Therefore, registration difficulty and membership fees are signals implying that not everyone can use these private online shopping malls, which provide low prices for luxury items.

  • 오늘날 미술관의 지속가능한 재원 확보와 핵심 지지자를 확대하는 차원에서 개인 후원 개발에 대한 필요성이 높아지고 있다. 본 논문은 멤버십을 미술관 개인 후원자 개발을 위한 첫 단계로 보고 개인 후원자 개발을 위한 멤버십 운영의 방향을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 멤버십 운영으로 단기간에 실질적인 수익을 창출하는 것은 쉽지 않으나 미술관은 멤버십을 통한 개인 후원자 개발을 통해 미술관의 미션과 활동에 공감하고 참여하는 지지층을 확보할 수 있다. 1990년대 이후 '새로운 박애주의' 흐름으로 나타나는 후원의 새로운 경향들은 개인 후원자의 요구와 동기가 변화하고 있음을 말해주며, 이는 미술관의 멤버십 개발 및 운영 방향에 시사하는 바가 크다. 이 논문에서는 미술관 멤버십과 개인후원자에 대한 이론적 검토와 사례 연구를 통해 멤버십을 통한 개인 후원자 개발 역할과 방법, 방향을 모색하였다. 멤버십 운영과 개인 후원의 오랜 역사를 가지고 새로운 시도를 지속하며 멤버십 프로그램을 고도화해 온 미국의 클리블랜드 미술관, 시카고 미술관, 뉴욕 현대미술관 멤버십의 사례를 새로운 박애주의적 속성인 참여와 관여, 책무성과 투명성에 초점을 두고 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 국내 미술관을 위한 시사점과 제언을 도출하였다. 미술관 개인 후원 및 멤버십 제도 운영과 이에 대한 학술적 연구가 미흡한 상황에서 본 논문은 개인 후원자 개발을 위한 멤버십의 방향성과 실행 조건을 모색한 의의가 있다.

Fuzzy 계확법의 해법일반화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Extension of Fuzzy Programming Solution Method)

  • In this study, the fuzzy programming is extended to handle various types of membership functions by transformation of the complicated fuzzy programming problems into the equivalent crisp linear programming problems with single objective. It is well-known that the fuzzy programming problem with linear membership functions (i.e., ramp type) can be easily transformed into a linear programming problem by introducing one dummy variable to minimize the worst unwanted deviation. However, until recently not many researches have been done to handle various general types of complicated linear membership functions which might be more realistic than ramp-or triangular-type functions. In order to handle these complicated membership functions, the goal dividing concept, which is based on the fuzzy set operation (i. e., intersection and union operations), has been prepared. The linear model obtained using the goal dividing concept is more efficient and single than the previous models [4, 8]. In addition, this result can be easily applied to any nonlinear membership functions by piecewise approximation since the membership function is continuous and monotone increasing or decreasing.

Reduction of Fuzzy Rules and Membership Functions and Its Application to Fuzzy PI and PD Type Controllers

  • Fuzzy controller's design depends mainly on the rule base and membership functions over the controller's input and output ranges. This paper presents two different approaches to deal with these design issues. A simple and efficient approach; namely, Fuzzy Subtractive Clustering is used to identify the rule base needed to realize Fuzzy PI and PD type controllers. This technique provides a mechanism to obtain the reduced rule set covering the whole input/output space as well as membership functions for each input variable. But it is found that some membership functions projected from different clusters have high degree of similarity. The number of membership functions of each input variable is then reduced using a similarity measure. In this paper, the fuzzy subtractive clustering approach is shown to reduce 49 rules to 8 rules and number of membership functions to 4 and 6 for input variables (error and change in error) maintaining almost the same level of performance. Simulation on a wide range of linear and nonlinear processes is carried out and results are compared with fuzzy PI and PD type controllers without clustering in terms of several performance measures such as peak overshoot, settling time, rise time, integral absolute error (IAE) and integral-of-time multiplied absolute error (ITAE) and in each case the proposed schemes shows an identical performance.
